- On our drive today, we follow Kittening Peak Highway (AZ386) all the way up to Kitt Peak National Observatory. Along our drive, we also stop at several scenic pullouts to admire the gorgeous mountain overlooks that this winding mountain road provides.
At around 20:37, you will notice that there are several trees that have been completely burned. This was due to the relatively recent Contreras Fire that threatened the entire observatory. This observatory consists of several different types of telescopes all located near the summit of the mountain. This is one of many telescopes in the Tucson area. Arizona's dry climate ensures that there is less atmospheric distortion so the telescopes can get a clearer view of the cosmos.
