Many of those ATH sales were artificially inflated. Like crypto and NFTs people created a market with very high prices than creating FOMO for outside circles to buy in than dump at High price rinse and repeat while new buyers/collectors and flippers buy the overpriced items but soon will correct and again rinse repeat… average Joe won’t sell the same things and if they do will be at a lower price 🥲🥲🥲
With all collectibles it’s all about what someone is willing to pay. Auctions are up and down depending on who’s bidding. I don’t always go by last sale though. I average the last 3-4 sales to come up with a price for a book.

I had this discussion with my brother the other day when he was looking at one of his grail books. I said to him it’s ur money and ur book u get whatever grade u want, but bc I know this is a book u will never sell unless u have absolutely no choice, then at that point does paying the much higher price for the 8.0 or 8.5 really make sense vs getting the 7.0? Since the books are slabbed u can never touch them u can never read them so what the inside looks like does not come into play for you as much, all u can do is see the cover so as long as the 7.0 cover looks great and u are happy with it why spend hundreds to thousands more for a higher grade on a book u never plan to part with/ get money out of your investment.
Less than 4 months earlier that exact TOS 39 sold at Ebay auction for $10,100! So that same buyer (?) let it go for $5k less?!?! If desperate for cash, it would have been better selling to, say, Bry's Comics, for .60 on the dollar ($6060). Something just seems off about the sales history of that book. Maybe not. Maybe.

It’s rare to get deals on a deep grail like the first appearance of Iron Man and I’m still delighted to have it my collection.

The prices on these highly noteworthy books aren't always going to be scalable because they aren't something that you run into very often. They are very sought after and I can imagine many people will stop and think to themselves "When am I ever going to see this book again?" and just throwing caution to the wind and pulling the trigger no matter what the price is. I can't wait to see what goodies you picked up this time!
was Iron Man 1st appearance worth a lot prior to MCU.... I dont remember people really liking or collecting Iron Man back then. ASM #1 is 1st chameleon. AF 15 is the real Spiderman #1

It's good, as a beginner, to see just how much is out there and work out fair pricing. I've stopped myself buying a couple overpriced books already.
