I clicked on this because I love Judi Dench. I was not prepared for the feels that came on when Robin Williams walked out. Still one of the saddest Hollywood losses for me.
Sameeee, i thought i had seen all of his award presenting and accepting videos, and so when i clicked play this one, it was solely because of Dame Judi Dench, and i certainly did not expect even for one tiny bit to see Robin Williams on the stage to announce the winner.

And how many other comedians could have looked at that name and come up with that line? When you look at Ms. Dench's face, she knew she'd won; she was at the time the only Dame in the bunch.
Dame Judi Dench DID deserve the Oscar for her role, her scenes, her presence was so powerful! She is excellent in every role she does! Among others she was also nominated for Notes On A Scandal which she should have also won for, sadly she didn't . She was beyond amazing in that one!
Agree wholeheartedly. But add to your list Jessica Lange, Jessica Tandy, Charlotte Rampling, Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Kathy Bates and I would add Frances McDormand.
Sophie Freeman Right! Loved In The Name Of The Father. I would add also Holly Hunter thanks to her magnificent turn in The Piano and Sissy Spacek who was riveting in both Carrie and Coal Miner's Daughter.
***** Believe it or not, Dench was not the respected actress she is now. This was only her second Oscar nomination, at age 64. She had been practically unheard of in the US until the previous year, when she got her first nomination for MRS. BROWN. Up until then, she had been mainly a mainstay on British television. But then in the new millennium, she got a slew of Oscar nominations: CHOCOLAT (2000), IRIS (2001), MRS. HENDERSON PRESENTS (2005), NOTES ON A SCANDAL (2006), PHILOMENA (2013). I guarantee you that if she were to win again, she would get a standing O.

Too bad she won for a borderline one-note role that was pretty much a cameo, because Notes On A Scandal and Mrs Brown would have actually been highly deserving. But actors winning for the wrong roles is pretty typical with the Oscars.
I came here for indomitable Dame Judi Dench but found myself snorting with laughter from Robin Williams. RIP Robin, you are truly missed! Thanks for the continued laughs.

But it turns out it was a mask, just to keep everyone around him happy. R.I.P, Robin. We all miss you.
It's the mark of a phenomenal character and performance when the actor's name is synonymous with one specific role. I sometimes forget the character's name and just think 'Kathy Bates'.
What a classy speech she gave. Dame Judi Dench is one of the finest actresses in the business. Continue to be nominated well into her 80s. Should've won for one of her Best Actress nominations.
You can actually see the other nominees smiling so genuinely at her, with such admiration and respect. LOVE it. Thank you, Judi, for being so brilliantly amazing.
The role required her to be powerful, commanding, singular, and residual... the director knew that he had catapulted her into Oscar status when she played the part so well. The role of a lifetime.
+Renan C. Maia I feel the same way. and I'm sure Redgrave took a stab at that in an episode of Rude Awakening when her drunken character Trudy grumbled "F--- the Oscars."
Dench deserves more than one oscar. She's given stellar performances in Iris, Mrs Henderson Presents, Notes on a Scandal and Mrs Brown and could have won for any one of them but she did not deserve to win for Shakespeare in Love.
Not exactly for Iris,Henderson and Notes because there were some even better performances in those years, but yes,she should've easily won for Mrs Brown over Helen Hunt's MEDIOCRE performance in As Good as it Gets.
gain al Yes very true. She certainly wasn't the best in 2001 and 2005 and rightfully lost but still they are winning performances. As for Notes on a Scandal, Helen Mirren certainly was very Very deserving but I believe that Dench's haunting lead performance was superior and should have won. But that's not what disappoints me. What disappoints me is that that Helen Mirren won every single award that year whereas Judi won absolutely nothing despite giving such a remarkable performance. But anyways she sure as well should have won for Mrs Brown and in many ways this was a make up Oscar for snubbing her the previous year.
Well I personally LOVED Helen's performance in The Queen.I think that performance is one of the best winner in the history of Oscar, but sure,I'd be fine if Judi won for Notes.Cate and her were also MARVELOUS in the film.
I actually thought Dame Judi's performance in Shakespeare was really powerful and she deserved this Oscar. She stole every scene she was in, her screen presence is off the charts. She probably deserved it for Notes On A Scandal too, she was phenomenal in that. I also would've like to have seen her be nominated for her bitch-slapping of Keira Knightly in Pride And Prejudice haha.
I love this clip. Robin’s wit and delivery were spot on, as always and Dame Judi gave an elegant and humble speech. The last few seconds might be my favourite part, watching Robin walking offstage with her. He looked so protective and encouraging, with his arm around her shoulder, guiding her. He just wanted to help her in that heady, crazy moment. What a sweetheart!
Judy deserved that. She showed an outstanding acting in those few minutes. I think Sharon Stone deserved to be in this nomination too. She was great in "The Mighty"
The Brits have some of the best actresses working today and all of them are of a certain age: Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, and Helen Mirren are just three. They always seem to turn out marvelous performances even if the movie is not all that great. It took me a while to really appreciate this lady's work, but I'm now a fan.
Though Rachel Griffiths was my favorite for her extraordinary performance, Judi Dench is one of the classiest women on earth and a living legend. She should have won for 'Mrs. Brown' and 'Notes on a Scandal', undoubtedly her best screen performances, in my opinion. But still, she has an Oscar for her lovely 8-minute turn in 'Shakespeare in Love' and she deserves it.
