  • There are a lot of people talking about the The Arrma TLR Tuned Typhon RC Car. This exciting E-Buggy release is a tough basher buggy base that has been tweaked to perform. We’ve already created two videos on this buggy, the unboxing and a quick bash video, but many are eager to see it race. So Greg packed up his pit bag and headed to RC Madness in Enfield CT to attend their big Supercross race. This race features a track with lots of jumps and some with big air time. In this video Greg will go over his race day behind the wheel of the Typhon and some of the tuning changes he was making to dial it in. Thinking about making the The Arrma TLR Tuned Typhon buggy your next race car? Be sure to check out this video!

    Pretty good result for a brand new buggy you just got that is not already setup for your track conditions. I enjoyed the video a lot, thanks for putting in the effort to test this in a race environment.

      Thanks! Yup it’s hard to be the first one to chase a set-up and with the limited track time, the result was decent. This buggy will be a contender for sure.

      I wouldn't consider it to be that well priced for what you're getting. By the time you're done you've spent almost as much as you would on some of the cheaper full-on race kits. This really should have been an RTR with some basic but good quality running gear.

  • @superchargerone
    @superchargerone 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had been looking forward to this buggy and I have to say .... that wasnt a big crash and was surprised that the front end broke! I have racing buggies from other brands that would survive that not to mention my bashing typhon and senton would have survived that crash too because I have had worse crash in them than that. Dialing in setup and handling is one thing (it didnt look planted) but that can be sorted out with time but DNF is something completely different. There are many other brands of racing buggies out there to chose from so I am a little hesitant about getting the TLR. Will stick to bashers from arrma for now.

    I'm typically a basher, but I do like tgis style of buggy. I had the 3s RTR Typhon for a couple of years and started having a lot of issues with it. I decided to replace it with the TLR Tuned Typhon and swapped the electronics (Spektrum 130A ESC with 1900kv motor combo and Spektrum 652 Servo). I've only had one battery through it so far, but I'm pretty impressed. Will need to learn how to tune it though. Center diff seems rather open, probably could use some thicker diff fluid. Maybe it's supposed to be that way and I'm just not used to it?

    Cool video, i am planning to get one of those, just for some amateur racing, for a fun days with friends at a local track. Maybe some little bashing. Dont wanna spends alot money on a race kit. Your video helps alot. Part suport for arrmas is good here in Lithuania, so i gues this is an optimal buggy for me. This one is 400Eur here, and when i looked at, for example, Tekno, it is over 600Eur in my country. I see this buggy has alot tuning options, maybe you can give me some pointers on what is most important (tyres ofcourse)?

  • @VestedUTuber
    @VestedUTuber 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Seems like it handles decently well out of the box but the lack of adjustability REALLY hurts it and it has some quality issues. As a result there's really not a reason to pick it over any of the racing kits, you end up spending close to the same amount getting it ready for the track anyway. It's nice that there's finally a club-level racer on the market again but it would better serve that role if it was an RTR.

    • @VestedUTuber
      @VestedUTuber ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dirtrider88
      By definition, not having the electronics makes it a roller, not an RTR.
      Anyway, even though the price is lower than most racing kits, the problem is that this buggy exists in a non-existent market segment. The RTR guys aren't going to step up to this, it doesn't really appeal to hard-core racers, and entry-level racers are going to gravitate towards the cheaper short-course classes.

      X-ray are about the best going in my opinion nice. Yes they do look like the Durango. I bought one to play with (TLR Typhon) and it’s a blast it handles so well compared to its rtr counterpart. - 3S: fast, lightweight, very nimble for general use, not so great for track racing
    - 6S: extra-fast, much heavier, less nimble for general use, better for track racing
    - TLR: best of both worlds, i.e. extra-fast, lighter than 6S and nimble for all uses

    I'm considering getting it, along with the Pro-Line body. I'd also probably be racing it in the E-buggy Lite class. However, since our local track is an indoor track, and carpet, I'd need to be rubbing a 4000kv motor on 2S, along with different tires. I can focus out the ESC & motor...but, having never raced 1/8 buggy (especially on carpet), what would be the best suggestions/recommendations for tires? Again, indoor, gray carpet.

    Any decent preforming RTR race buggies? I’d love this monster but idk... it’ll be my first car specifically for dirt track racing so I’d prefer something with included electronics, something to get me used to the feel of all my settings and beginner tuning without spending $1,000 after electronics. Just looking for something specifically designed to be tuned and raced as if it were a top notch custom buggy. Usually those rollers have an insane degree of fine suspension tuning, much like this typhon

      On the electric side the Serpent SRX8-E RTR is the only racing-focused RTR in the 1/8th scale class. You would be allowed to run the Typhon 6S RTR as long as you run a 4S battery but it's not exactly the best handling car due to how its suspension is set up more for bashing. The Kyosho RTRs are decent for just driving around but crap for racing without some serious work.
      For nitro, it's a similar story - one good RTR for racing and that's it. This time it's the Losi 8ight RTR, which is loosely based on the 8ight 3.0 with some features brought in from the 8ight-X. Again, Kyosho kinda drops the ball with their RTRs.

    Do you have a recommended settings for the Typhon on the track? I have been to my local track watch guys rip their car and let them drive mine. They say is very unpredictable and wants to push through all the corners and is skating everywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you sir!

    I guess the question is: for the casual racer getting into the racing side of the hobby.
    Is it worth spending $425 on this as a roller - that you’d then have to add electronics too. Which would be around + $350 or so with a low end but decent remote/Reciever combo. Totalling about $900-1000
    Or would it be more cost effective to just buy a Arrma Typhon 6S for $550 and just throw $200 worth of race grade parts at it?

      That's a great question

      I am not sure the Typhon 6S will run on a 2S out of the box, just FYI. Mine would only run a 3S (Typhon 6S V5 with Spektrum ESC) at minimum, despite manual saying 4S is the minimum requirement.
      And I say get into the hobby as cheap as you can for now. Why go off the deep end without getting your feet wet? Experience and stick time are more important than anything else when getting started racing.

      @@Oni76 do you guys race 1/8 scale Buggies/truggies on 2s ?
      All the tracks around me are 4s limited (although some guys do run 3s)
      The only classes in my local tracks that are limited to 2s are 1/10 scale. (Buggies & Short course trucks)

    • @Oni76

      @@SG-wj2qj we run 2S for the 1/10th scale like SCT, and 4S for all the 1/8 scale (Buggy, Truggy). It honestly sounds like you'd be better served with a 1/10th buggy then if that's what is local. I did base part of my purchase on what was local to race, as in no point in having a car that can't be run unless I want to travel far (i.e., there are no 2WD classes presently due to lack of demand and since off-road, terrain is much better suited to 4WD).

    Looks good, but really dissapointed about that A-arm breaking and pin bending. My losi 8ight 2.0 EU had way bigger crashes than that and takes it like a champ.

      Crashes are like that. The ones that look bad sometimes aren't so much.
      Then the ones that don't look so bad break half the stuff in the car.

      totally agree. Those who defend the breakage DNF for a simple crash like that do not race bec imagine a mistake during a race (which is easy enough to make) and at race speed like that and you end up with a DNF. That is not good not good at all.

Wouldn't you be? lol. All we are saying is play it straight and frank.
