Wouldn't work, the setting is as important to the story as the story itself, NYC and Jersey City worked well for GTA 4 since both are very cold cities, specially during the wwinter, but Miami ins't, it's a waste to have a beach city and make the game take place during autumn/winter.
Russian here. War is the worst outcome of any conflict. We the common folk never wanted it to come to this. I hope it ends soon and we all will go back home to our families.
While the stories that he tells might be made up from Rockstar i do remember hearing a story where children were lined up and asked to bless themselfs with a hand like make a cross and if they did it the wrong way they would be shot on the spot. Yugoslav wars in ww2 and in the 90s were one of the most darkest moments in Europe and beyond all very very brutal
I just realized that you missed one quote literally from the intro before the game's logo. Where Niko talks about how he couldn't get a job after a war and was involved with some idiots doing dumb things
Well same sorts of politicians. While people were dying and murdering each other in WW 1 like conditions , politicians from all side dined and partied together.
I never completed GTA IV completely when it came to dates and hanging out with certain people so hearing the dialogue for Kate and Niko talking about Roman’s mother was really sad
"No one has the dreams that I do" that is so fucking real. It hurts when someone close is trying to comfort you, saying you can get better, but of course they can't see the things you see, feel what you feel. They can only see the result of the trauma. It hurts because you know they care and you want to belive them, to be better for the people who are rooting for you, but sometimesthe past just doesn'tlet go.Rockstar went really deep into Niko's character. They made someone feel extremely real. Niko is one of my favourite protagonists in media, let alone a game like GTA.
Niko is undoubtedly one of the best characters I have ever encountered in games. The silence after "How much do you charge to kill someone?" speaks volumes about his inner turmoil.
Honestly i can't get enough from this game, i never get tired of playing it. The story is awesoem, and reflects in some way what is happening right now on the world, let's hope this war ends soon, sending love to everyone that needs it!
The Grand Theft Auto V characters never had near the amount of development Niko has had. Even today, in the dawn of a new war, Niko talking vividly about what he experienced still hits very hard. I sure hope to god this new war can be ended soon, and that Russia will pull back from Ukraine. They do not deserve what is happening to them right now.
The Brevic cutscene is one of the most emotionally gripping in video game history, but at the same time I cant stop thinking about the stunt jump ramp in the background of the scene and how I spent a good half an hour trying to complete it with a forklift.
It amazes me with how much depth Nico had as a character having to have a reliance on credible inference and not just cramming down flashbacks to force emotion down your throats
Now everyone's gonna go rampant because of real world events. Anyway, I never really dated Kate. It's terrifying what happened to Roman's mother. I absolutely respect Niko for keeping it a secret.
Thinking about that, Roman's panic attack when he saw the apartment burn makes sense, as he thinks his mother died in a house fire. Such a little but tragic detail only a few players notice
Hope this war ends soon. This game kinda shows what war does to people even if they survive and don't get killed. As we see Niko still suffered even after so many years.
thank you for doing this! This is why I love GTA 4 so much. (apart from the details and controls compared to GTA5) i like how they tried to humanize Niko, that he ain't a gangster/mob like in VC or SA, giving it a unique perspective, just doing things becuse he does not know better/is dragged into this. Victor from VCS was similar, having a humanized trait dispite what he does. (Sigh) realy wish GTA4 would be released for PS4. And we all should pay our respect to veterans like Niko, who came out traumatized. This humanity and lack of gang focus of Niko inspired me to do a crossover story of GTA 4 once...sorry, rambling
2:40 such a perfect & simple line. At the core of it, every immigrant leaves behind their homeland just for that one hope “Things will be different” and isn’t that also what we look for our entire lives? To escape our faults, the things we keep doing wrong? And that “maybe…” holds so much in it too. As fallen people living in a fallen world, Niko knows he may not deserve a new life… but we keep on hoping anyways.
"There are very few people in Liberty City, who met me before the war" This line gives me chills, with how he talks about the war. Rape, murders, children being tied up and killed. Scary to think what Niko did during those times, when he was young and stupid like those around him. What he said to Packie was right, we only know this Niko, the one in Liberty City. I'm sure we all would've had a different perspective on him if we knew him before
That comment really made me shiver too. He doesn't really mention in full depth on the things he's done. Only named them. And that...that is exactly how you keep a character interesting. Even after all this time.... He deserves peace. Not suffering.
I love when GTA gives a tragic but dark backstory for a character that isn't for once a butt of a joke or a sexual innuendo It really shows that Rockstar does a perfect job in writing dark and tragic stories, the red dead redemption games were prime examples of that but when they add it into their GTA Titles, it really feels like a breath of fresh air and makes the characters actually feel human
Hey man, I really appreciate all the work you put into your videos. I’ve been watching every GTA4 video you have and it really helps pass the time while working. Keep it up man, much love
“War is when the young & stupid are tricked, by the old & bitter into killing each other.” I pray for all Ukrainian souls & young Russian minds that have been corrupted. War really never does change.😔
This is very true how Rockstar can be like genius of creating characters like Niko and had some deep character development over the course of the IV's story and lore as a whole
Niko Bellic remains one of Rockstar's best shaped characters. One can say Niko was Arthur Morgan's early prototype since he was also conditioned by a crime-driven environment, he killed people, but one can see he still has a sense of morality in certain points of the game.
The sister superior scene and the scene where Niko speaks to Mikhail's wife are very similar. Both are broken men talking to a women about the pasts that broke them and made them who they are, to be reassured that their lives matter and that they can help people, and that even in the darkness there is light, and a reason to believe in kindness and love.
Having grown up in a Yugoslav neighbourhood in the 90s when people were fleeing from the wars there, Croats, Serbs, Bosnians etc who worked with my dad on freighters trying to escape from back home. I relate to this. They shouted at another, cried with eachother, and hugged another, its like all the pain and anger at eachother of everything they were dealing with washed away once they moved from that place. Not everyone though, certainly though those who were mad at another, still are. I like to think they are mad because opportunists used their national pride to fight and kill what were once brothers and sisters, under the guise of national pride. Though I miss that place though, it was as close to a real neighborhood as any other. Generally good people who always had plentiful food, good stories and plenty of laughs.
Niko has always been my favorite protagonist in the GTA series. He's the human of all the characters. One full of sympathy and remorse for the things he done and continues to do.
The problem with all these great dialogues is that most players will not have experienced them by the end - most players will just breeze through the main missions and will look upon going out with all friends as "filler" and a waste of time when in reality, it's in these dialogues that most character info is revealed :(
The story in this GTA is so deep and powerful. I honestly felt bad for what Niko had to go through. If they made this game into a movie, it would be a hit with the proper actors and screenplay.
I've never gotten far enough into GTA IV, so I never even knew how the guy who betrayed Niko's squad loomed like. The most shocking thing definitely was that the paycheck for betrayal that the mf got was just... A thousand dollars?? For 13 lives? GTA IV is just a game, but it tells such a strong and emotional story that it feels like more than a game.
Nikos character is well written, he doesnt talk to much about him self but when he does you can see way down to earth than the rest of the people of this game. He is to damn realistic meanwhile Trevor be like "give me them cocaine or ill do bad things to you cuz I havent showered in 2 weeks" man I love GTA
2:00 He's probably talking about true event in Kravice village, where Naser Oric's forces buchered ethnic Serbian villagers. One of the real-life snipers Dejan Beric (fighting in Donbas today) once said he witnessed it as first responding unit going to that village.
My parents came to America from Yugoslavia in the late 80s and I still have family on both sides in Serbia. My dad had two brothers that fought in the war and one didn't survive...the other did but still to this day he struggles mentally with everything. I asked him when I was younger what was the war like? He looked at me and said that in war your ordered to do things that will stay with you for the rest of your life by someone who is sitting behind and desk watching the war through a television screen. They don't live with their choices and the deaths they caused cause they was there to pull the trigger...we was. My uncle died by his own hands a few years ago. He was never at peace since the war but now he finally has it.
Glad to have been recommended this video. GTA IV is definitely one game that's more fun & enjoyable to play once you're older & more mature, only then can you really appreciate the amount of work that's been put into the character & storyline development, plot of the game etc. Interesting channel too BTW: Subscribed! 👍
Something to try in the first mission, "If the player somehow manages to save before this mission ends (such as enabling movement with mods after the second cutscene ends) then the save game file will be called "In The Beginning", similarly to that of 3D Universe GTA games." Wouldn't work, the setting is as important to the story as the story itself, NYC and Jersey City worked well for GTA 4 since both are very cold cities, specially during the wwinter, but Miami ins't, it's a waste to have a beach city and make the game take place during autumn/winter.

2:00 The moment you realized just how much shit Niko went through, and why he’s such a stone cold killer.
This video reminds us that Niko is the most emotional character of all GTAs
I just realized that you missed one quote literally from the intro before the game's logo. Where Niko talks about how he couldn't get a job after a war and was involved with some idiots doing dumb things

This is the reason I fell in love with GTA IV's story and Niko. It really felt like it came from something so real and Niko was so genuine.
I've replayed this game 10 times last year and it truly does have an amazing way of building Niko into a very real fleshed out character.
Niko's quotes about war will remain timeless. What a great character, beautifully developed
With what's happening in the world right now, this is scarily accurate... Depressing too...
I can totally see some idiots on the comment section going to say:
"Rockstar predicted the Russian-Ukraine war of 2022" and some other BS.

Well same sorts of politicians. While people were dying and murdering each other in WW 1 like conditions , politicians from all side dined and partied together.
Then be depressed.

I approve this message.
I never completed GTA IV completely when it came to dates and hanging out with certain people so hearing the dialogue for Kate and Niko talking about Roman’s mother was really sad
It really does feel very depressing
His whole character and the way he carries himself. I am always intrigued by Niko, like as if i was watching a movie
I always think “how can Roman fall asleep to a good speech like that” but then I remember
He’s still a touch drunk
So many emotional war moments in one video
"There he is - Nikoooo Belllic!" - Packie McReary
When niko says " you ruined me"
I felt that.

Excellent timing.
It amazes me with how much depth Nico had as a character having to have a reliance on credible inference and not just cramming down flashbacks to force emotion down your throats

The war Niko was talking about is also real. Kosovo war 1991 - 1999. When NATO attacked Yugoslavia.
Hope this war ends soon. This game kinda shows what war does to people even if they survive and don't get killed. As we see Niko still suffered even after so many years.
there will never be a gta with the depth that this storyline and Niko's character had, just an incredible game throughout
thank you for doing this!

That part when Niko talks to Darko in Serbian always got me goosebumps. Guess it is time to finish this game again for the third time.
Niko Bellic is such an amazing underrated character.
Niko is one of the best protagonists in the gaming industry, why is he underrated?
Because a lot of these V fanboys hate him for being too depressing and they prefer a high school drama story. *cough GTA V cough*@@колин13
Probably the most brutal GTA 4 video I've seen on this channel. Especially since I've never seen that cutscene with Darko until now
The voice acting and delivery here is still absolutely phenomenal.
Yep damn shame rockstar lowballed the voice actor
2:40 such a perfect & simple line. At the core of it, every immigrant leaves behind their homeland just for that one hope “Things will be different” and isn’t that also what we look for our entire lives? To escape our faults, the things we keep doing wrong?
And that “maybe…” holds so much in it too. As fallen people living in a fallen world, Niko knows he may not deserve a new life… but we keep on hoping anyways.
"There are very few people in Liberty City, who met me before the war"
This line gives me chills, with how he talks about the war.
Eh i wouldn't look at him much different lol hes who he is now regardless of what happened then

I love when GTA gives a tragic but dark backstory for a character that isn't for once a butt of a joke or a sexual innuendo
It really shows that Rockstar does a perfect job in writing dark and tragic stories, the red dead redemption games were prime examples of that but when they add it into their GTA Titles, it really feels like a breath of fresh air and makes the characters actually feel human
At least one game teaches us some things
Likkle Jacob was an amazing character him and Niko really got to be close friends. GTA 4 was such a great gta.

What a great time to upload this.
He was trying to do the best not knowing it was all useless
It's very haunting how Darko resembles Niko, like a shadow self. He is the embodiment of Niko's trauma and his dark side.
I’m so happy you’re still doing GTA 4 videos
Glad too see you keep uploading Gta 4 relevant content. Keep it up💯💯💯

The fact he doesn't say Yugoslav Wars in specific and just says war makes it seem in general sense, making his words even more sensible.
2008: This feels over the top
2022: Fuck damn...
“How do you think it was? Seeing your friends die, seeing men have their legs blown off? It was… it was… it ruined me.”
That is so fucking sad my god.
Why do we, Slavs, always have to fight each other? And why are the nations that talk about Panslavism hurting the other lavs most?
Thanks for uploading. Was waiting for this.

Him describing his time in the Yugoslav Wars always gave me chills and added more depth into his character when I was playing it
Thanks for this compilation

Something to try in the first mission,
"If the player somehow manages to save before this mission ends (such as enabling movement with mods after the second cutscene ends) then the save game file will be called "In The Beginning", similarly to that of 3D Universe GTA games." From the gta wiki. After you save try loading the In The Beginning save file.
