If anything, technically speaking the charged Creeper method produces infinite mob heads rather than Ancient Cities and this dungeon. It just takes more effort to set up a charge Creeper farm, but with Channeling tridents and copper lightning rods nowadays, it isn't as hard as it used to be.
This video may be "old" already but I just playtested the data pack and I have two issues which I think could be improved! 1. I think the amount of loot is actually unbalanced. It feels there is too much in comparison to the challenge. For example the enchanted golden apple is one of the rarest items in the game and I just got 5 from one medium sized dungeon. 2. the tripwire hallways got me really confused. I heard multiple explosions through the walls and was wondering what the heck is going on the whole time until I saw that mobs literally trigger the tnt traps. I think these should be removed or at least fixed, because they're not only destroying half of the dungeon the trap also gets disarmed before a palyer can fall in it! So far this is an amazing overhaul and I want to include it in my vanilla experience whenever I create a new world
While I think this is fair, I also think it's worth considering that these dungeons are quite hard unless you're at least mid-game, and most of the loot just isn't particularly useful. Enchanted golden apples may be rare, but they're not otherwise particularly desirable. One of the problems of MC in general is that the loot on offer just isn't very good. The only loot that would really make these worth exploring FOR the loot would be stuff like maybe tridents, ancient debris, or maybe some of the armor trim stuff. Even diamonds are kind of iffy given how easy they are to mine in comparison. There just isn't much in the game that's both hard to get and desirable. I'd add elytra, but that ruins the whole having to go to the end for them thing, and I think elytra are bad for the overall gameplay experience anyway. Ancient debris is similar, but, frankly, you need so much of it to fully upgrade that getting maybe one piece per dungeon seems like an okay balance given how rarely you come across dungeons unless you're being a bit cheatsy.
You should update more structures! This was such a great video, I loved watching the process of you making each room. Id love to see the desert and jungle temple updated like this, i'd definitely watch that video!

Yes, they are overdue, especially with the dungeons. They need to add more randomly generated structures that can provide a challenge for players to try to raid in the over world. What they have now shouldn’t even be classified as a dungeon. The stronghold alone would barely pass as a dungeon. They need to revamp the basic dungeon, revamp the strongholds, add more structures in the over-world of varying difficulties for both early game, mid game, and late game stages, and lastly, but most importantly, put more emphasis on the survival part of survival sandbox.

I'd love to see a structure update someday. The more I think about it, the more I realize I can't think of a single example of a structure being updated. They usually just add new ones.
I bet that's part of it. Probably also that they need to make the change for multiple versions and support a bunch of different platforms. Not to mention how Mojang needs worry about performance, lore, balance, and I'm sure a bunch of other stuff. I'm sure if the developers went wild like me, they'd be able to make something completely mind blowing in a week.
That's literally what it is. Mojang has a massive book of rules for their developers that they have to follow when developing content. If something doesn't pass the rule book, it won't get developed.
To all of the people who think that modders would do a better job making substantial updates there's two things to consider. 1. modders use the tools code and structures that devs have to make from scratch, which is significantly harder. 2. most of the minecraft dev team is comprised of influential modders 2.5 most mods have teams creating them and are still super buggy, even with the infrastructure laid out for them by the devs. The last few minecraft updates have been game changing, even c&c p1. there are thousands of bug fixes and technical game changes that aren't as flashy structures and bosses that are made in each update. I do not agree with a lot of mojangs game designing decisions but its important that if you are going to criticize something you should try to understand what you are criticizing.

@@ketoradoesgaming4103 Go ahead! :) If the mod pack is for 1.19, my advice is don't add Whimzee's Wizardry. There's a Minecraft bug the datapack runs into that causes a complete game crash. Anything else should probably be fine. Have fun!

Look at the ancient city. As a game dev, finding an idea for a fun, well made game is insanely time consuming and consuming

Could you make some tutorials on how to make data packs? I had a quick look around TH-cam, but I didn't find anything great. If anyone else reading this knows of some good tutorials or has made some, I would love to know. Great job on the dungeon.
I've been thinking more and more about making some tutorials. I think the most I'll do is make a video pointing absolute beginners in the right direction, in terms of what resources to use and what things to avoid when you're starting out. I'd say Legitimoose has the best beginner tutorials and Cloud Wolf has the best advanced tutorials.
One of the problems with creators making custom structures i see a lot is that they do not acknowledge how the block might affect survival minecraft. For example, skeleton skulls are supposed to be hard to obtain, but in the dungeon they are scattered around everywhere. As well as the nether wart blocks to look like remains or blood, but the blocks are supposed to be obtained through the nether. It looks better but, players will definitely farm it without putting in as much work.
If these mega-dungeons were to be added, I think we need some other mechanism other then mob spawners to make them spawn mobs. Having increased danger levels IS fun, and better, but I don't want to see them turned into mega-farms afterwards. So a compromise would be to mix some of the classic mob spawners, with some new mechanic, so being able to use the mob spawners for farming purposes could be the 'reward' for technical players to conquer a mega dungeon.
Credit me! Thanks whimzee love your vids. Another idea, try finding other channels like yours and try to make a collab! I think @memerminecraft would probably be able to do something!
I think that, while the old dungeons are objectively worse, they should stay around for nostalgia's sake. The two dungeons should coexist, with one having a different name than the other. Maybe the new dungeons could be called "prisons" or "crypts." Maybe the old ones could be called that. Either way, I think both should be in the game. The old ones would be much easier and more common, but with worse loot, while the new ones would be the opposite (harder and rarer, but with great loot). I honestly feel that Mojang's unwillingness to tamper with preexisting mechanics simply because they don't want to really holds the game back. They only add, but they never "improve," if that makes any sense (sure, the village and pillage update did just that, but it's an exception). There's a reason why some games have sequels or new editions, and it's because sometimes, you really do need to just start over from the ground up with the skills you've accumulated over the years. TL,DR: amazing work, I think both dungeons should exist, and I think Mojang needs to start improving old features instead of just adding new ones.
for some reason mojang doesn’t want their open world non-linear adventure game to have “adventure” aspects just “mine, mine some more, make a house, mine some more, fight the dragon…. What more?!”
Imo you should make some changes, Make 3 sizes for dungeon (the larger the rarer) Small - only 1 spawner and 1-2 rooms (as common as regular vanila dungeons are) and Meh loot. Medium and large will contain much better loot but much more danger and rooms. Now themes, The deep dark, the dungeon appearing here should have desgin similar to the ancient ruins and only spawn in the -Y lvls and obviously some areas might be corrupted and have sculk sensors. The minesheft station, a rare dungeon, that connects several regular mineshafts to a main or small stations. Underwater dungeon, an underground dungeon that is submerged in water and designed similarly to underwater ruins and the ocean monument. Now a few critics, Never cramp spawnrs together, it seems like a good idea for difficulty but in reality players will just quickly light the room up and make an easy megafarm. Don't spam spawners, spawners should be a threat not a nuisance and especially not a decoration block like you did, ur large room trap pit was a cool idea, but the passage that forces you to jump over a spawner covered in spider webs isn't, I can easily build over it and ignore it. And the last one, you should keep the design slightly more vanilla and ugly, mojang themselves stated that they don't want to make extremely good looking structures cause then players will not bothered with making thier own bases and structures they will just move into this nice looking premade structure. And lastly i have an idea how to fix the spawner problem, instand of spamming a lot of spawners you can just make so the area of the dungeon has increase mob spawnrate, that way if a player wants to use the area to make a mob farm they will need to actually put an effort and not just dig an area around 5 spawners, place water and stand in the middle
I've already played with this datapack on my survival world before watching this video. I was wondering how this thing was made. And I am truly amazed. Thank you for this. It's awesome!
THIS IS SO GOOD. Its great how most of the stuff would fit super well into vanilla, and the way the rooms are connected is incredible! Petition for Mojang to see this! 😃
11:23 top 10 anime betrayal Anyway this really looks like a good datapack that isn't too much out of vanilla like others but one question how common does these dungeons spawn
Thank you! They're fairly uncommon. Way less common than normal dungeons, but maybe a bit more common than ancient cities. However, they're quite large, so you'll almost certainly run into them.
Mojang has to decide what features to add, build them on all of their platforms, and make sure there’s no bugs. There’s lots more Mojang has to consider than one guy modding one version.
the amount of content in what he made vs what mojang releases is vastly different though. his work is actually very good but not the level you'd expect from a full release update. the only changes here are a new structure.
10 months late but oh well, this isn’t an update, it’s essentially just a randomly generated map, which is obviously not as hard to make, also it’s ridiculously overpowered, once you know the traps you’ll just dig around, or build over them (like the TNT "trap" in desert temples, or digging 1 block to get the chest in jungle temples), but the reason why it’s overpowered is the sheer amount of spawners, the spider trap has 2 spawners, and there’s a hole with 4 spider spawners, FOUR SPAWNERS, and almost every room has a spawner as well, including a creeper spawner, this whole dungeon would be turned into a giant mob farm if it was ever added to Minecraft.
To add this wouldn't actually be evil, it adds good stuff, and a new adventure. An exampls of good loot is creeper spawners. I know I sound like I'm trying to be nice but I'm not, and I'm being literal.

Please do more of these and then once you've made like 5 of them, you could make a mega dungeon and get some fans to race to complete it.
Yo, this dungeon looks sick! I couldn’t even tell the dungeon made by Mojang is a dungeon
Dude has a theme song. I'm in! Also, great vid and I'll be trying your hellish dungeon in a world of my own.
Mojang: Hmm, good... LETS MAKE TRIAL CHAMBERS 100% ORIGINAL
Hey Whimzee! Make a discord for datapack events and stuff! (I’d definitely join!)
Great idea! I'd love to code some community ideas. I'll at least make a community post asking for terrible Minecraft ideas soon.
Credit me! Thanks whimzee love your vids. Another idea, try finding other channels like yours and try to make a collab! I think @memerminecraft would probably be able to do something!
Imagine putting all of those together in one big building👀👀👀👀 it would have my vote instead of having a box
“Does this look like a dungeon to you? No sir, this is a sad little box.”
I mean.. he’s got a point there
Ten outro is so good, this whole video was so fun
Its depressing we will never see anywhere near this level of detail to minecraft dungeons on live. Maybe in a couple years. But still.. Killer job.
Stayed for the content. Subscribed for the power ballad jingle.
Mojang saw this and made the trials chambers
Love the designs of the dungeons, they look awesome!!!
Also your skin is really cool, I really like it!
I appreciate that, thank you!!
for some reason mojang doesn’t want their open world non-linear adventure game to have “adventure” aspects just “mine, mine some more, make a house, mine some more, fight the dragon…. What more?!”
This is what I call real content.
Imo you should make some changes,
Make 3 sizes for dungeon (the larger the rarer)
Small - only 1 spawner and 1-2 rooms (as common as regular vanila dungeons are) and Meh loot.
Medium and large will contain much better loot but much more danger and rooms.
Now themes,
The deep dark, the dungeon appearing here should have desgin similar to the ancient ruins and only spawn in the -Y lvls and obviously some areas might be corrupted and have sculk sensors.
The minesheft station, a rare dungeon, that connects several regular mineshafts to a main or small stations.
Underwater dungeon, an underground dungeon that is submerged in water and designed similarly to underwater ruins and the ocean monument.
Now a few critics,
Never cramp spawnrs together, it seems like a good idea for difficulty but in reality players will just quickly light the room up and make an easy megafarm.
If Mojang ever hires this guy by any chance, we already know the updates gonna be lit
I've already played with this datapack on my survival world before watching this video. I was wondering how this thing was made. And I am truly amazed. Thank you for this. It's awesome!
Bro made the new 1.21 trial chambers without knowing (and without copper)
THIS IS SO GOOD. Its great how most of the stuff would fit super well into vanilla, and the way the rooms are connected is incredible! Petition for Mojang to see this! 😃
This is literally 1.21
The fact this this is a damn datapack. Mojang have no excuses
11:23 top 10 anime betrayal
Anyway this really looks like a good datapack that isn't too much out of vanilla like others but one question how common does these dungeons spawn
Thank you! They're fairly uncommon. Way less common than normal dungeons, but maybe a bit more common than ancient cities. However, they're quite large, so you'll almost certainly run into them.
@@Whimzee ok
took mans a week to make two years of minecraft updates
This is amazing, I think someone could do something similar with a backrooms with random generation! or minigames!
P L E A S E
For sure! I think people have only scraped the surface of what's possible with jigsaw blocks. Both great ideas.
i did not realize this was data pack until they said it really impressive
those dungeons look acatully pretty good
Thank you! :)
This guy will help me through my depression
This guy made an update in a week, all while mojang takes a full year. Really impressive, you got a sub!
A creeper spawner alone makes this structure worth looking for. Easy gunpowder farm baby
Bro predicted 1.21
Yo Whimzee! I recently found your channel and I really like your content! (also love your outro, it's a bop)
While I respect this video, it really doesn't need to fuel the idea that Mojang = Useless and Modders = Best
To add this wouldn't actually be evil, it adds good stuff, and a new adventure. An exampls of good loot is creeper spawners. I know I sound like I'm trying to be nice but I'm not, and I'm being literal.
One person can make this in 7 days but a whole game company can’t add 3 mobs within the same year. 🤦♂️
with the book that looks like a ancient language thats just a dentist diary, its like the rosetta stone wich turned out to be taxes
