Discovery Channel Beyond 2000 Wearable Computers 1992

แชร์

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 4 ก.ย. 2024
  • Ancient wearable computer technology was supposed to revolutionize computing back in 1992 don't you know.....Somehow the visionaries at NEC never realized the power of cellphone technology and tablet computing making all of this obsolete if not hysterically ridiculous. Oh well, at least we can have a "geek chuckle" from all of this.

This is bizarre - this show was made and presented here in Australia - you can hear the accent in this segment. So Discovery licensed the content and book ended it with their own presenters. Interesting.

It amazes me that even in the relatively recent year of 1992, they couldn't predict how far technology would evolve, which would allow for it to be physically small and fit in our pocket. Watching this makes 1992 feel like the stone age.

      He told him
Man , You're like ROBOCOP !! or just a Robot ?? cuz he was wired for 2 small cameras in the body and a bigger one carrying on.
So the golden times were awesome.

The tablets and cellphones do everything these would have, and more. Can you imagine how irritating it would be to wear all that? Having to take it all off to get in a car, and then putting it all back on. Same thing to use the bathroom. And the forearm keyboard would always be in the way.

This stuff isn't obsolete. It makes promises in terms of flexibility and usability that smartphones are yet to actually deliver on. Most people don't "need" the stuff that a desktop or laptop does better than a smartphone most of the time, but somebody who is actually familiar with them and has any imagination at all knows that making stuff more convenient to do can drastically change what is "necessary." Affordable and powerful personal area networks and augmented reality should've been possible twenty years ago, but device manufacturers actively don't want things to be easily interoperable unless they're the ones making the standard everyone licenses, so we're stuck plodding along with failing gee-whiz projects like Google Glass.

I guess green screen technology, or keyed background was too much for this futuristic tech show.

Call me crazy but I have been trying to find a way to watch this series again as I watched it religiously as a kid. It was this and then Next Step at 7:30 PM. I would LOVE to watch these shows again.

This was at a time when Amiga 1200 was released. Commodore started to heal itself. Amiga's show its Virtual Reality capabilities.. But 1994 came and Commodore had to close down. Since then,.. until now. The computer age lost over 15 years with innovations. Windows 95 came in late 1995. OSX came later! The world have now rebooted. But is the innovations now better? Different yes, but still in 1998 if Commodore would have survived!

I would so pay to watch a show of a character being accidentally sent through a space/time rift for an alternative time line where they survived and things like this actually happened... i think it would be a funny mini series.

This is silly even for 1993. Concepts for datapads and e-notebooks etc already existed.
Its similar to the google glass is the future crap.
