I was operations manager at StAgnes and drove the bus for this video. I remember we didnt have any spare drives so had to go myself but had no idea this was on you tube. 30 years ago now. Jesus.
@@TheEarthHistorysConfusing Yes, I cringe at Gen Z's copying the 80s, my childhood, yet as an early Millenial we were the first cringe a few years ago.
They're still using this system and still trying to sort out the bugs. The buses are still not running on time even though they've just upgraded their PCs to 40 Mhz 386 CPUs and Windows 3.0. They've had to clone that guy's American voice.
You obviously don't own a phone with gps or know how to use it . I can plan a bus, plane, train months in advance it will give me a schedule from my location and arrival time.

I'm glad you stumbled across it Peter. On the subject of a long time ago, I'm pretty sure I've seen your name on a photo of the '84 football team ;)
@@Jasezen More than likely Jasezen. Was with STA from 77 thru to 94 and was involved with the footy club around the time you mentioned.
The 80's indelibly stamped itself into early 90's fashion. Thanks for the upload!
@pjdsa haha exactly what I thought, although I can see the difference between say, 89 and 91 fashion. I was a very observant kid.
And now the craze in this fashion is back again.

People forget Australia helped build internet maps and google maps.
Unless you’ve got your note pad handy, you just needed to remember 13 instructions.
I was driving the Tram in 1992
I predict a handheld device that can both visually and verbally guide you to anywhere on earth
These look like the game helplines of the time. Cool to see the start of “Googlemaps”
1:12 TIL Keith Conlon had a part-time job at the STA call centre in 1992.
Nothing like calling a bank in Australia today, I often give up
Amanda looks like Julian Clary in this video clip.
Ha ha she does 😂🤣
I wonder how many people were made redundant because of Mobile GPS.
Incredible that the fare was $2.40 to Modbury, while today it's only $3.00 for an Adult fare on Metro card, 25 years later.
That is incredible

Google Maps does this now, LOL. The idea was light years away.
@pjdsa didn't have Google maps back then though.
That bloke sounds like a computer. Any one from Adelaide, did this actually get up & running?
I'm from Adelaide but I was only 3 at the time of this video haha. I will ask my parents when I see them today though!
well the thing about that is that normal people didn't have mobile phones back then
Nope they only actually installed gps trackers on some of the buses a couple of years ago!!
I went: "American?".
Nope.
The caller sounds a lot like Dean Hutton from The Curiosity Show. Adelaide based too.
The very beginnings of Google Maps.
Double true!
do those bus train track things still exist in adelaide? i've never seen them before
yep still going
Anthony Kernich That's what Perth needs, bus tracks great idea even for presant day.
was ment to be part of the Adelaide "MATS" project , a network of freeways/motorways through Adelaide , but was canned and replaced with the bus lines
Yep. They are brilliant
O-Bahn
Love this, love Amanda Keller and the brown trams

The painful optimism of the past! Started with the right idea, but quickly got enshittified!
Idk, it’s never been easier to find your way around an unfamiliar place. In that aspect it’s gone pretty well.
now this service is called google map on any smartphone devices or computer.
Thanks for uploading!
$2.40 😂
to be with Sunrise
I think the name Neucleon is from Jericco
That's why the car is the only way to travel reliably 30 years on!

"They're trialing a new system"? Has she been informationed that "trying" will do?
Trialing could have the additional meaning that they're using it under formal temporary contract
And now we have an app that does all the work of a government department!
Who the hell would want to go play in a park at night? lol
different world back then
3:50 Is that a bus or a train?
They explain in the video. It's called the O-Bahn, special busses ride along tracks to reach faster speeds.
Мне очень понравилась Amanda Keller.
Шея, правда, у неё выдающаяся теперь, в наше время.
Nostalgic!
Blurry too. But also nostalgic haha
Gold !
Early google maps.
i had a crush on this girl when I was a kid
Are you a lesbian?
and Amanda Keller is still hot today
You must like men then.
@@mega-hb4re I said I had, not anymore. I just thought she was beautiful back then.
The phone operator sounds American
You'd be surprised how many countries have disillusioned citizens escaping to a better life in Oz. 😂 😉
Are non-natives really so rare in Australia that they stand out like that?
Yep. Never used the term blocks in SA.
"...we're going to have to develop public transport networks..."
Well this never happened lol
Adelaide bus on time. Yeah right
Goggle stole Pits!
Russel is not my real name
I want the Predator to shutdown
I look Indian and in a lot of pain like Indians.
I am not Indian. I do not know what is going on
my Name is Neucleon pthalo
Fucking Adelaide...
Waitaminute. Austrailians, do y'all have an American guy in the chair of all your spy thrillers like we have an English guy (or Tom Arnold)?
