Actually the venn diagram would be a small circle of boys who don't like smart girls within the larger circle of boys you don't want to date. Because male axe murderers who do like smart girls would hopefully also be inside that larger circle of boys you don't want to date. However, I still love that quote!
John and Hank (and employees of theirs if applicable): PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take down the first link!!! It is no longer anything like its stated mission and forgot to be awesome and turns your computer into a decepticon. Maybe find a good TH-cam playlist of The Mountain Goats music with which to replace it.
So I clicked on it before reading the comments, realized it wasn't what it used to be and closed the tab immediately. Is there anything else I need to do to ensure it won't turn my computer into a decepticon?
"Cumming diet from Nissin food products sold will be food in the modern diet food chosen by many people. Can continue eating what why elected is a product from Nissin food products that major food manufacturers so delicious taste and is rich in variations from getting tired." I love it.....
Spencer Geller Yes,sir, I have a question. WHY THE JOHN C CALHOUN IS "themountaingoatswillcureyourbieberfever.com/" a website in JAPANESE about the ****ing diet?
John's advice makes me so happy. I forgot how much I loved the vlogbrothers until now. I can only thank myself for finally going back... Gosh I love Nerdfighteria(and the fact that my computer now recognizes that it is a word) DFTBA and Best Wishes!!!!
Welcome to the Dork Side. We have cookies, John and Hank Green, and a ton of rad celebrities. Please enjoy your stay, because it will probably last forever.
I have to say, I am a girl who has never dated a guy who didn't think she was too smart for him, but not in a I-wish-you-were-dumber way, in a wow-you're-smart-that's-cool way. I don't think I was smarter than either of them, but they both did, and I think a guy doesn't have to be book-smart to be happy with a girl who is, or vice versa, as long as they appreciate that about each other. And he better appreciate that a nerd girl is a gift, as much as nerd girl appreciates someone who stops her from crossing the street into traffic while she's explaining her strong feelings on a novel.
Janey Creeden I am a nerd girl engaged to a nerd boy who is cleverer than me, but I'm pretty sure (if he had to choose between me being smarter or stupider than I am) he'd prefer me to be smarter. I think any person who is secure about their own strengths is unlikely to be intimidated by strength in their partner, and vice versa.
When procrastinating instead of studying for finals one day, I stumbled upon this video because it had just come out and youtube thought it was important enough that it was on the front page. Deciding to give youtube the benefit of the doubt, I watched it. John's love of the Mountain Goats is what initially hooked me but since that day of first watching over 2 years ago I have now watched all the videos on this channel. You guys never forget to be awesome, and I want to thank you for it.
I don't think I could love you more right now, John. You mentioned Neutral Milk Hotel in Will Grayson, and you linked to a website about how The Mountain Goats will kill your Bieber fever. Way to mention my two favorite bands of all time. So proud to be a nerdfighter right now.
My boyfriend recently (like half an hour ago) told me his was intimidated by my intelligence, and I remembered that John once answered a similar question, so I dug through the archives to find this video. But I'm by sure his advice really applies. Any nerdfighters who see this, could you help a girl out and give me some advice on what to do?
I would let him know that intelligence, is a strength like every other kind of strength, physical, financial, influence, etc. And just like every other kind of strength it exists to serve others and improve their lives. And just like every other kind of strength, it can be abused. Then, you could let him know that you are fully committed to wielding your intelligence with gentleness and compassion to leave others better off than before they met you. And that if you ever did something that made explicitly made him feel "less than", that it would be an abuse of your gift on your part, and that he should let you know. Then you could ask him if he would be prepared to enjoy your intelligence with you, as something that makes life better, just as you enjoy the various strengths that he uses to make your life better. It might also be worth mentioning that although it's one of the strengths our current culture celebrates the most, it's not necessarily even the greatest strength. Most geniuses with IQ's well above 160 make no meaningful contributions to society. And many of history's heroes were people who primarily wielded other strengths: William Wilberforce used his capacity to instantly connect with people to start a hundred thousand conversations over dinner, until he swung the opinion of the entire nation so they could abolish slavery without a war. Mandela changed his though his capacity to listen compassionately and react to pain gracefully. What matters isn't the strengths we bring to the table, but the way we wield it to serve the people around us.
Francesca Mele I am thrilled that you like that my comment. (If that's what you're implying). But, I'm not a part of Nerdfighteria. In fact, I don't even know what it is. I'm just a random youtuber drifting around all over the place.
your reply was over eleven months ago, and I kindheartedly hope you have taken the time to learn and consider yourself to be part of Nerdfighteria... DFTBA (Don't Forget To Be Awesome!)
This was my first vlogbrothers video and I fell in love, I started at the beginning and I am very excited to get to this one, I thought it would be farther along, it makes me happy that I'm getting closer to now ;)
After hearing you go on and on about them, I finally started to listen to the Mountain Goats. Apart from being awesome, they have the line about people being wrong about saying it's darkest before the sunrise. That misconception just makes me think how much time people are wasting in bed. Get up and watch the dawn every once and a while. It's pretty awesome.
Hey, so, since I now know you answer totally random questions and concerns: I think I've known quite a few people in abusive relationships. Most of them were girls being abused by boys, but most of them also got out of those relationships fairly quickly (2 years max). The others are boys being abused by their girlfriends. They stay in these relationships much longer (2 years min) and seem even less willing than girls to accept advice/help. I think it's because of this strong manly man image guys think they have to live up to (and that they think you have to be week to be abused). My question is, how do you think our society (and individuals) can start supporting guys who need to leave abusive partners? Also, no one ever listens to their peers when it comes to advice on their abusive relationships. I think they might actually hear it if you say it.
How do you recommend girls should respond to unwanted male attention in the form of off-color comments and innuendoes? Are we supposed to ignore it? Call them out? Laugh it off? (I'm not referring to strangers cat-calling, I mean comments from acquaintances and coworkers)
I’ve always been a nerd and I’ve always loved your videos, but recently my mom has started watching them with me. She loves them and loves you guys and thinks because of you maybe the Internet isn’t so terrible. Thanks
I met a girl in my history class because of her John Green pizza shirt. We've since started many conversations about nerdfighteria, and our mutual excitement for TFiOS. A new friendship has since emerged :)
John, your advice on wearing vlogbrothers tee worked on getting more nerd fighter friends IRL. I got to start talking a guy I was crushing on in seventh grade (I'm now a senior) and I was indimidated at first, as he's really cool, so I geeked out. I truly am a nerd girl :)
Definitely join clubs, or find some group in your school that makes something: music, a play, films, sculptures, whatever. I'm happiest when I feel like I'm a part of something, and it's so much easier to do that in college. I used to write for my school's sketch show, and I made some cool friends.
@Greegon101 some advice I have. 1) ask people you trust to help you. 2) don't be afraid to cut parts out or change the plot or rewrite chunks of it. 3) if you don't absolutely love something, don't spend too much time deciding if you should change it, because you will grow to doubt it, even if it's good. Hope that helps!
okay, "patience, grasshopper" & john's likening of everyday situations with venn diagrams are two definite TFIOS references. these have been over looked... UNTIL NOW!
John has several copies of all his books. John also has a copy of his books from each country and language they are printed in. He spent years of his life writing them, and now they're like trophies reminding him of how much awesome pumps through his veins.
Pssst John. Guess what. I had my AP test for Language & Composition yesterday, and I wrote about YOU. Yes. It gave me much enjoyment. Well, as much enjoyment as one can have when taking an AP.
Yeah I've started rock climbing with one of my best friends and bringing other college friends along too. I joined Dumbledore's Army, though we don't meet a lot it's a lot of fun and they're really cool people. My major is also really small and our professors have us over to their house to hang out so I've started to develop friendships there too. Thanks.
so last year I had pancreititus (basically the most painful thing ever) and the one thing that kept me going as it went undiagnosed for months was your words "Every other time I thought something wasn't going to end, it ended "
I agree so much. if a guy doesn't like you because he thinks your too smart or too ANYTHING for that matter, please do NOT change yourself or belittle your intelligence for him.
I never got drunk or threw up in college, but I DID get introduced to Doctor Who and the amazing complexity of the human psyche and made friends via mutual nerdiness and philosophical discussions. I had a good time.
Well, last night I sat down with her and we had a serious conversation. I made my points and she made hers. After about 15 minutes, we came to a decision, I can get the shirt, but I have to be able to come up with the money. Thanks a lot man! DFTBA
My friend Mikayla, whenever she has the hiccups, I just say "Bless You" and that confuses them right out of her. Every time. She always falls for it. Every. Single. Time. It's awesome.
You should do another advice video. How do you survive college if you have trouble even leaving your room except to go to class? Or see the like 5 people you know?
Wearing nerdfighter garb works. I've found so many nerdfighter friends (okay two) because of the clothes. One of them is the best guy friend I've ever had. We never would've met if he hadn't worn his Nerdfighter shirt to calculus lecture. True story.

I love the way John is like a dad or an older brother when he's giving relationship advice to nerdfighters
Agreed! Especially since I have no one in my life to give me advice like this... I love these videos so much! :')
I have heard very few absolute truths on TH-cam.
John Green's comment about the Venn diagram is one of them.
that sounded more of jhon the author than jhon de youtuber, liked it
"Don't bother with someone who maybe likes you" is, i must admit, some of the best relationship advice I've heard.
Actually the venn diagram would be a small circle of boys who don't like smart girls within the larger circle of boys you don't want to date. Because male axe murderers who do like smart girls would hopefully also be inside that larger circle of boys you don't want to date. However, I still love that quote!

Excuse me, that Venn diagram is a donut. With that dealbreaker as the hole in the middle. xD
I finally found where this quote is from! I saw a gif of this long before I knew who John Green was, and look at me now, I'm a nerdfighter!
This was definetly one of the best videos ever for the Vlog Brothers.
YOUR HAIR'S BEAUTIFUL, JOHN.
Patience grasshopper. I am officially fangirling. That was maybe my favorite moment from the book!!
So this is how Dear Hank and John started
John, thanks a lot for reminding me how good the mountain goats are.

"It's kinda an act of... yuck!"
Whoa, your qualities as an author, really shines trough! ;)
It's Dear Johnsock and John!

My friend wore her pizza John shirt to Disneyland and we found a fellow nerdfighter. it was awesome!
Give this man all the awards.
I just realized every time I have ever thrown up always ALWAYS hashes a story to go with it.
I didn't know you wrote Looking for Alaska! I read it a few years ago. THE PIECES ARE FINALLY COMING TOGETHER :D
I never got drunk or threw up in college, but I DID get introduced to Doctor Who and the amazing complexity of the human psyche and made friends via mutual nerdiness and philosophical discussions. I had a good time.
Spotted The Big Over Easy in the background. Now I adore him even more! :)
Well, last night I sat down with her and we had a serious conversation. I made my points and she made hers. After about 15 minutes, we came to a decision, I can get the shirt, but I have to be able to come up with the money. Thanks a lot man! DFTBA
This was such an awesome video...loved it John :)
DFTBA!
I love you john green and hank green. I look up to y'all and find you very inspiring and understanding
My friend Mikayla, whenever she has the hiccups, I just say "Bless You" and that confuses them right out of her. Every time. She always falls for it. Every. Single. Time. It's awesome.
Some of the best and most hilarious advice i've heard all day. And that boyfriend ven diagram analogy is PRICELESS.

LOVE the Mountain Goats reference.
Omg...the fact that you like Michael Buckley...I think I love you even more now, if that was even possible
John, you're the man. This video is epic
i've been saying "this is the last video!" for the past 30 mins ....there just too good.
I come and re-watch this video a lot. Anyone else?

KUNFU REFERENCE! I love you this much more now , thanks for that , i needed that
dorky ppl ftw...
i love you guys, your movies make my day.
Thank-you for your comment.
Oh so there's lists now, the problem issn't about lists.
Most Venn diagrams aren't mutually inclusive no, because they have the area contained in one circle but not in another, in this case the area representing boys you don't wanna date but who like smart girls. But Johns diagram (being a circle) is a specific kind of Venn diagram that is mutually inclusive because the two circles equal each other.
Hope that's cleared things up.
The pizza shirt helped me recognise a fellow nerd fighter on holiday in Majorca. Might get one
2:57 might be one of my favorite lines in all of nerdfighteria.
Hahaha, the Venn diagram reference was AMAZING. You guys rock :)
Bieber has a new album. It's playing on the radio.
The problem is I don't know which are his songs
John... I'm not sure whether or not to pursue writing as a career. I love it to death and I know my calling lies in the arts, but it's such an unstable job that I don't know if I'd be okay!
YAY! my favorite John Green quote revisited! Venn Diagrams FTW!
