I met a couple some years ago who saw The Rat Pack at the Sands. Dino came our into the audience and kissed the wife on yhe cheek. She said she didn't wash it for three months. Her husband said that was all she talked about and she was impossible to live with. Only Dino could do that to someone.
And of course, Dean did it with a Marty Robbins self-penned song. Hell, Elvis best performance songs, You Gave Me a Mountain, was another self-penned Marty song. Pure genius.
A little humor is never out of place in entertainment, but, this is what Dean needed to do far more often. Finally, Dean sings a song from the first bar to the last, without any schtick or comic interruption whether it was Frank's, Sammy's, Jerry's from the sideline or most often his own! The man needed to get out of his own way and do exactly what we all know he did in the recording studio, just let his own natural instrument, and talent flow through the lyrics.
Marty used a lot schtick when he sang. And yes, he was much more talented than Dean. Marty was one of the greatest singer/songwriters of our time. A pure genius.
Dean and my Dad could have been brothers they looked so much alike. Further, my Dad knew Dean from Youngstown Ohio in the early days. Tears roll down my face when I see and hear Dean. Sure miss my Dad😢

A little humor is never out of place in entertainment, but, this is what Dean needed to do far more often. Finally, Dean sings a song from the first bar to the last, without any schtick or comic interruption whether it was Frank's, Sammy's, Jerry's from the sideline or most often his own! The man needed to get out of his own way and do exactly what we all know he did in the recording studio, just let his own natural instrument, and talent flow through the lyrics.
Marty used a lot schtick when he sang. And yes, he was much more talented than Dean. Marty was one of the greatest singer/songwriters of our time. A pure genius.

@@walliegirl2 no one said he was from Youngstown. He migrated from Steubenville to work at the Jungle Inn located in Youngstown Ohio. He worked as a dealer there. He also did shows in the Youngstown area. Craig Beach being one of them.

@@walliegirl2 Yeah I know that. And Marty did a great job. But Dean Martin's version was superior .I suspect he was singing it for his ex-wife, Jeannie. His pain, and possibly regret, was palpable.
