The Batman (of Synthesizers): The Sequential OB-6

  • i have contended for sometime that the OB-6 is truly the Dark Knight of synthesizers (or shall we say The Batman in loving honour of Matt Reeve’s expert vision. it’s an opinion mostly, but backed by a tad bit of objectivity, only in so much that the brassy, brash tones of this instrument, coupled with its dark and brooding chassis, certainly embody the tone of the canon of the legend, as we know it today. the SOMA Lyra-8, my favourite modular sounding instrument that’s not modular, but quickly accessible and wildly raw for those terribly icy and northerly tones.

    This is great! How are you liking the Lyra 8? Really been thinking about getting one. You think it’s worth the price tag?

    • @hvegel
      @hvegel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      a great question. i got mine early days, before i got any of the modular/semi-modular offerings, but it hadn’t lost its luster (just a busted switch thanks to a 1.5 yr old baby standing on it). in short, it’s absolutely worth the price tag, for what i do. it’s basically a modular kit without the wires (the appeal for me) & quickly accessible. i have probably used it on nearly everything i have worked on since 2018. it’s not for everyone, but if you want to go down a rabbit trail to make amazing sounds on the fly, that will integrate amazingly with your more bread & butter pallet, then go for it. maybe get the green or orange ones. those are rad.

      @@hvegel thanks so much for the feedback! I really appreciate it! I always like to try to get input before I make any rash decisions. But some of the sounds it can make just seem outrageous. I may have to pick one up :)

      @@TheJgraham12345 I tend to prefer reverb.com but eBay is perfectly fine, so long as the seller and photos seem legitimate. I ought to buy more second hand. sometime over the course of the year I really would like a P5, but will look at the second hand market for that.
