I feel like Riku would be a strong one. He has a grit and resolve unlike any other. I think there is a bit to look at regarding his struggles with remorse and sense of self worth. But also his boundless sense of self sacrifice. All of which making him a true Keyblade Master and the de facto leader of the Guardians of Light.
YES! Axel / Lea is my absolute favorite character in the Kingdom Hearts series and watching him develop from Chain of Memories all of the way to now in Kingdom Hearts III and just how far he has really come. Great video like always Jon! Looking forward to more!
It’s no wonder he got so popular. His part in the guardians’ efforts to save Sora show what great services to society he can be capable of, and Sora would no doubt be super thankful for that when he is finally saved from Quadratum.
Yeah, especially since those same adults came in and took up raising him after both of his parents died as Ienzo's character profile says in the BBS character profiles. Ansem the Wise seemed to take to being a father figure to Ienzo. It's also kinda contradictory how KH 3DS just portrays Even and Ienzo as unwilling victims lying on the floor and Braig before he gets his heart pulled out, starts chewing out Apprentice Xehanort. I say contradictory because the reports in KH1 and KH2 made it seem like all of the apprentices, including Ienzo went along with creating the Emblem Heartless. Yet at the end of BBS and that scene from KH3DS, Ienzo just seemed to be dragged into it and made into an unwilling experiment.@@sarahlivingston
I think somewhere along the way it was revealed that nobodies can actually have real feelings but Xemnas convinced all the Organization members that they couldn't in order to get them to go along with his plans (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). It might not change much in regards to this analysis but I think it's an interesting addition, because it suggests that Axel's feelings were all real but he could easily justify some of his actions by thinking he doesn't have a heart anyway. If any of this makes sense. Also, Xehanort/Xemnas is like the biggest gaslighting cult leader out there.
You very well might be right! I don’t personally remember it, but there’s so much information information about the Nobody situation that’s easy to mix up or get confused on that I could have missed/forgotten that piece. If I were to change it though, really all that I would change is that I would have touched more on his change from 358/2 to KH2 instead of attributing it to all of his memories of being a somebody which led me to believe that he maintained stagnant in development (even though his character definitely changed) until he became Lea again.
@@ThoughtBubbleYT Ok so I had to look into this, and what I was thinking about is the scene near the end of Dream Drop Distance where Xemnas basically confirms that most if not all the Organization members have started growing back their hearts. So I guess you do need your heart to feel emotions, and what Xemnas wanted to hide is the fact that a Nobody can get a heart without being Norted. But at the very least I feel like it's safe to say that Axel ended up having a heart (or at least a budding one) even before he turned back to Lea. I actually think Axel did start to develop his morality a bit towards the end of 358/2 Days. Sure he inevitably chose actions that he thought would let him keep being friends with Roxas and Xion, but he seemed to wrestle with decisions. That scene where Siax asks him if he'd rather lose a make-believe friendship or a real one always came across to me as a double meaning of he can't have Roxas and Xion (a real nobody vs a replica), and if he keeps trying to do what's best for Roxas it could end his friendship with Siax (his friend from before losing their hearts vs the person he thinks is a friend despite not having one). Looking at what must be weighing on Axel's mind, the latter half of 358/2 Days comes across to me like he's trying to have his cake and eat it too by trying to save all 3 relationships. That of course ends up falling apart in the end so he does what's best for the organization (his society) in the beginning of KH2 but ends up changing his mind when he thinks he can get Roxas back. His actions really seem to be that of a person trying to figure out where his passions and duties lie. Combine that with Sora in 3D implying that he had a heart too, I think it may have been his friendship with Roxas and Xion that allowed him to gain some humanity back, but it took his full rebirth in 3D for the feelings he was wrestling with in 358/2 Days to be focused into a clear mission as a keyblade master.
This is a really interesting dive into the heart (pun intended) of one of KH's most interesting anti-villains. I'm definitely gonna be sharing it with all of my KH-invested friends!
Wow as a Axel fan this is incredibly interesting to see this in a psychological perspective based on what you know form what you’re learning from your time studying! I saw Axel as the antihero but seeing this progress of him during the games it’s beautiful to see him being worthy and genuinely wanting to be a key blade weilder. Though when he’s first introduced he does seem as the sarcastic bad boy type whose a big softie once you get to know him & his character. Once his development nt & character got shown more I love seeing him having his moments to share his emotions, from anger, sadness to grief.
Good analysis! Now, whenever you play the Phoenix Wright games, I’d like to see a similar analysis on Miles Edgeworth. His views on justice and morality do somersaults throughout his life. Cloud Strife would be a good character to analyze this way, maybe after more of the remake is finished,
Yeah, I'm debating when to start talking about FFVIIR characters because we know a lot about them from the OG FFVII but I don't know how FFVIIR will continue to tweak them and their characterizations. But I want to SO badly.
I subscribe to the qhole thing with Nobodies regrowing their hearts over time via connections and the organization Nobodies being especially stunted and gaslit on this. This video is super interesting on any point though.
I think even back in days there were seeds being planted of Axel developing more of a conscience. Recall the secret report in which he admits to himself that he shouldn't have exploited repliku as he did.
That’s definitely a really good point! I always have trouble wrapping my head around nobodies. Like is he able to show that potential development because of his memories like the games explain is how nobodies display their personality and make choices, which would indicate that this growth potential was already somewhat present when he became a Nobody, or is he starting to develop his own heart and that’s why this development is occurring? I dunno. The Nobody thing is hard for me to wrap my head around. Lol
You weren't kidding when you said there'd be KH content sooner than I'd think and to kick it off Axel/Lea. Colour me happy. Riku and Roxas have some meat to chew on but I'm just wondering if there's enough information on Master Yen Sid or The MoM? Would love to hear your take on either of them.

wow i cant believe i missed this video for a whole year. fantastically interesting pov, axel lea is my favorite character of all time and its kinda upsetting to see him constantly boiled down to silly character traits like just eating ice cream, he (as well as most/if not All kh characters) are so much deeper and interesting beyond the surface

I just love how the games, especially the current games don't call out Lea for his murders of Organization XIII. Plus, Axel was trying to turn Sora into a Heartless just to get Roxas back. What would have happened if Axel did get his wish but Roxas wasn't the Roxas he wanted? Roxas pretty much not being able to wield the keyblade and just risking his neck to save Kairi and Riku. Axel would have pretty much been the cause for Roxas getting himself, Kairi, Sora, Donald, Mickey, Goofy and Riku all killed by Xemnas.
I believe you should do a video on roxas and how he can relate to the biggest questions ever known to man and how he perceives and handles them. Such as stuff like meaning of life, the desire to have a life, and his own existence. He almost has nothing original that belongs to him, his "freinds"- just a fake relationship he made in a simulation, his appearance- a literal copy of ventus, his morales or personality- soras shell of emotionas and all.
I've been trying to figure out when the best time to start diving back into the franchise would be and so with MoM getting closer I figured now would be a perfect time!

Lea is my favorite Organization 13 member and I'm so happy that he got his friends back at the end of KH3. Roxas is my close second favorite.
