@@mr.k1t I’m glad you announced action at the 12th fret. 2.5mm is very nice height for a Nylon string guitar, you need at least this height on a nylon strung guitar. Many new ones that I have examined are at least 3mm at 12th fret for low ‘E’. I purchased a Yamaha nylon silent guitar recently and the high ‘e’ was 2.5mm and the low ‘E’ was ‘3.75mm at 12th fret. Good work and thank you for sharing. Very high standard of work. I cannot understand why some people have to criticise a posting when not fully understanding the difference between a steel string action and a nylon string action. I have set up many guitars and your choice of action at the 12th fret for this nylon strung guitar is just about perfect for most players.
Спасибо, когда Лады вклеены, я использую олово, чтобы температура нагревания была равномерной, благодаря чему, я могу вытащить лад быстрее и аккуратнее, без лишнего повреждения накладки.
Congratulations, you did a great job. It is identical to my mom's guitar. It is the guitar that I have played the most for many years (eg on the sofa) also because it is a little smaller than a guitar with a standard length tuning fork.
I've never seen the solder fret removal trick - very interesting! I think I would have soaked the tuning machines in white vinegar overnight, but it may have made them look too new. Nicely done, and I enjoyed the music. Thanks for sharing with us.
The solder will distribute the heat along the fret wire well. Alternatively you can use a iron or if you have the possibilities like Ted Woodford th-cam.com/video/gDqh5WHri3o/w-d-xo.html at 9:16 (I can highly recommend his channel) but I can imagine that the guys in Ukraine are at the moment somewhat restricted in their possibilities

Looks like the top is a laminated pinewood.....worth saving the guitar????. On the other hand refretting technique is fine. I assume the bridge bone was also renewed... and thats a good point to set string height..... Aesthetic result is obviously ok, but is the guitar intonated and free from noises?. I know I am biased... but that piece of furniture is unlikely to be called a guitar in Spain.
Thank you for your feedback. Of course, this Hofner is not a boutique spanish classical guitar. But from my viewpoint this is a part of guitar making and I would like to save it instead of throwing it away.
Yes this Guitar is built for Gut Strings (nowadays Nylon) & it came strung w/ Nylon Strings already, success. D'addario makes Ball End Nylon Strings (like what I saw in this video) which make restringing a Snap. There are those Thomastik Classic S Rope Core Classical Guitar Strings (KR116) which are Flatwound to save the frets from scratches
I'm not a luthier, I reactivate guitars as best I can. On yours, I would have paid more attention to those tuner machines. If they're too loose, I just replace them with new ones of high quality. On a guitar the age of your Hofner, those tuners rarely got any lubrication or cleaning. If I am restoring, I like the metal parts to be free of rust and tarnishing, not ignoring the neck, frets, bridge, etc.
Thank you for your comment. Surprisingly to me, these are one of the most comfortable and workable tuners. They have very smooth lift and nice gear ratio. And I don't want to get rid of them.
@@mr.k1t Cultural industrial bias causes me to think the tuners are of German manufacture, which is probably the reason they are as you describe. I have three Spanish made classical guitars, and their tuners work exceptionally well, though they're probably no older than 20-25 years. I have found through experience that buying tuners on the web can be a crap shoot. Price is not a guarantor of quality. I was able to find a new set for about $18, plus shipping, that are of reasonable quality. Conversely, I bought a set for about $36 that were actually worse than the ones I was trying to replace. The seller was puzzled about my returning them for a refund
Great work; but from what I could see in the video, that action still looked way too high. Also, a better choice for strings would have been D'Addario Pro Arte classical, normal tension tie-end strings.
Thanks for comment. What about action and type of string. This is not my guitar, I put in strings that client asked for. In the video action always seems higher.
Your scale length starts at your FIRST metallic (zero) fret. I see that your strings do not touch this fret, that is they touch the nut. You will soon find that this guitar cannot be tuned. Open strings have the nut for zero fret, fretted ones have the first fret for zero. Detach the nut and file down the grooves to make the strings rest on the first fret. If I see the things wrong I apologize. I like your work.
Thank you! You're right, I agree with you on that. It might have seemed to you because of the camera angle. In real life strings on this guitar start from zero fret.
It is a lap steel guitar.. I had the same identical guitar and I can assure you about it... It has a steel nut that fits over 0 fret. Also if you will notice.. the tuners have a metal central rod which is designed for steel strings.. It is an all laminate guitar but with ladder bracing.. Nylon strings will not be able to move the top so much and will give less volume and tone... Great restoration though...
I have a almost identical hofner with metal central rod, it has had a bad cracked headstock repairing, so it should be repaired, unfortunaly i can,t show a pictere here
Sorry, Bibek, because of that bridge style, this guitar was originally made for gut strings. So nylon would now be the only choice. The tension of steel strings would ruin that guitar in a very short time. I have seen that happen too many times with guitars like this.
Яка краса, приємно спостерігати за роботою майстра!

Distributes heat evenly over the fret, which allows you to remove it faster and better.

Since when did a fret replacement and a wax job become a restoration?

How do you know how much to take off of the saddle to get a good action? Its got a zero fret so I'm assuming the nut height isn't super important.
Sanding a little to the wanted result( at nylon guitar I like a little higher action).
What about nut, it must be lower than zero fret.

The fretboard looks amazing! What was the oil you used for final conditioning of the fretboard? - I think it's dunlop lemon oil?
It’s just mineral oil, same as Dunlop but without lemon flavoring.
