This is my dream right here. Being an expert guitar luthier/tech/restorer. Thank you for the extreme detail in the video. Gives me alot of insight and tips. You're like the Bob Ross of guitar restoration.
I hope if you don't any experience already, that you've started to learn. Every master starts with no knowledge of their craft. You'll get there someday. Have fun on your journey!
My God. This man’s attention to detail and overall knowledge is impeccable. I love watching these videos before bed. It’s like reading a book. Such a relaxed manner of explaining things, etc.
They are telling me I should not have been watching this under the table at my wedding reception. I do not fault you for making an extraordinarily interesting video. What an artist you are.
Watching this all the way to the end so that i could hear that extraordinary tone coming from that exquisite guitar was the pay off to some very fine workmanship.
Im totally amazed by the craftsmanship that went into the guitar way back in 1929. Also amazed at your repair work and craftsmanship. You cover all the details and don't cut any corners, Its almost like you built the guitar.And. I have to also complement your skills as a guitar player, You are a true master of the fretboard. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills.God bless you and Im looking forward to your next adventure.
What a beautiful work! It's so mind-blowing that after almost 100 years this guitar going to continue live and play. Thx for so many important details about this complicated process of restoration. Greetings from Russia)
3/31/2022 It just goes to show that quality workmanship makes the difference when it comes to vintage guitars. I knew a man way back in the late 1960's (Paul Mann) who was a Gibson technician in San Diego, California, who owned an L-5 Centennial. I believe that to this day it is the finest Gibson guitar I've ever seen. Old fumble fingers, here, would not even touch it. Great restoration and instructional narrative. ;-)
Impressive nut slot. Someone was meticulous when they first built that guitar. Craftsmanship was impeccable back in ‘29. Thanks for the precision Luthier instruction.
I was a Patternmaker for thirty five years before retirement. So this type of work is so wonderful to see. So much finesse and I would imagine a wonderful feeling of accomplishment whenever you complete a project. Love you all Bill.
This video could have been 24 hours long, but I would not have missed one second of it! You are so cool. A great Teacher, and musician🎶 Thank you I really appreciate you. Peace 💫
"This is just the camera mic"... WOW that instrument is fantastic. The acoustics and innovation of this instrument, held by master luthiers, and musicians over the decades, combining modern materials available to each Artist ...who understands the music this instrument was intended... will continue for centuries. Thank You for doing such an intricate restoration of a historic musical instrument. If only Giuseppi Guarneri had a You Tube channel ...back in the day (huge smile) I wish Peace, Mark
very well done, did wanted to see your technique of removing the old frets and also filling down the ends of the frets and the surface of the frets. you are talented! Cheers
Very interesting and enjoyable! I strummed a 1929 Gibson mandolin in a store 45 years ago, just for a minute. I still recall how incredibly good it sounded. Of course it cost far more than my car so the temptation to buy it couldn't be acted upon but it's a wonderful memory. It seems they had some great people at Gibson in that era.
Of all the dozens of repair/restoration vids on TH-cam yours is the only one I’ve been able to sit through to the end. No annoying banter or bad jokes but thoughtful, intelligent explanation in an easy to digest way. Beautiful work, too! I wish you were in NYC. 😉 oh, and I loved how every time you were blocked by a decision you came back with “the owner decided to....” I’ve experienced a few times when the luthier has taken liberties without asking and I’ve had to call him and ask “what did you do?”- . Fine playing as well.
I greatly enjoyed that video, what a master !! I was impressed by the respect he was approaching that fretboard. What a tone that guitar has , big and crystal clear !
You are part highly skilled craftsman and part magician. Can't believe how well the fretboard came up. I enjoyed every second of this video.....thank you for sharing
@@StringTechWorkstations my absolute pleasure. I've been doing my own repairs for almost 50 years, mostly because I can't afford to pay. But also because I don't trust anyone else touch my stuff. Lord there's a bunch of hacks out there. It's a real pleasure to see somebody like you that knows.....I bow to you sir!
All the little bends and files you do is just like how I work at home. It's very pleasing to see someone take such care. I treat all instruments like that even the cheap ones. But I have learned a lot from the internet don't get me wrong! I was just born to be careful too.
Amazing Repair Job! And and to hear the sound of this guitar at the end of the video was absolute bliss. Sir you truly are a true Craftsman! Thank you for posting, and stay save ( I’m watching this in April 2020)
Thank you , I enjoyed watching that. I'm sure the owner of that beautiful guitar will be happy with your work on that fretboard. It sounds beautiful. Good job. Thank you for showing that. Peace.
Looks like you were able to use the 90 year old nut! Amazing! You are truly a humble man with an innate ability to express and teach like a kindergarten teacher. I am in awe!
Absolutely brought me back back a beautiful memory,, my music teacher taught me music when I was going for my business in the local downtown Jersey City Music shop played one of those and it was strong left-handed I'll never forget the guitar and the smell of that pipe
@StringTech Workstations Excellent craftsmanship, Mike! From the ebony dust fill (2 stages!) ("let the glue run downhill to the polyethylene dam"), to the inlay replacement, to the impeccable fret work, and then the bridge copy-- I am VERY impressed! Gonna keep this bookmark handy.
superb work from the end plug to the unseen trussrod spacer, amazing refret and a beautiful bridge ,all topped of with such a melodic and heartfelt interlude,,words fail me.!
Absolutely beautiful workmanship plus great fabrication on the bridge I watch other repairs you did on the 1964 Strat and the the other guitars.....it's the nicest work I have seen. Thank you for the techniques and videos and ideas ! Chico Loranger Detroit ! cheers
I genuinely appreciate your gratitude. I am delighted to have inspired you. If these videos have managed to "kick the Covid to the curb-side" and taken you away for a few minutes to a place of creativity and joy ... then I have accomplished my task. Gratefully, Michael
First time viewer. I’m mostly impressed with the fact of you actually playing all over the neck. That shows how well it was repaired. Everyone else play cowboy chords on acoustic repairs. Great job. I will sub. 👍🤘
I find it funny that this old video is getting so much attention. There are 560 other videos that reveal even more detailed repair and restoration techniques than this one. Glad you enjoyed it ... thanks for the sub \m/ ! MMcC
Wonderful explanations and quality work. Wish you showed a bit more of the inlay of the pearl material, must have been tricky cutting and fitting into those existing holes. Thanks!
I'm in Alaska, thanks for sharing, this is a life time of( tricks of your trade) your sharing. I work on all my guitars myself. You really help guys like me alot.
So, a framing crew apprentice, probably can not jump right in here. Just being silly. Excellent patience, work and explanation. So very interesting . Thank you.
Aaah yes . A framing crew apprentice can most certainly jump right in ! After teaching "Guitar Repair and Design "courses for 23 years .... these videos are essentially a front row seat in my classes ... with a rewind button ;^ ) I have had many carpenters and cabinet makers take my courses ... and then strike out with their TechDecks doing guitar fret work and setups. Cheers JS .... MMcC
Don't forget to LIKE all his hard efforts gents.
This is, by far, the most useful fretting video I have ever watched. Thank you.
Warms my heart to see such an instrument being treated properly and kept in a nice shape.

Me too, would love to apprentice with a master luthier some day.
David, if you have the passion and desire, go for it. This could be a dying art. The world needs people to keep this art alive.
Nothing is holding you back - get to it.

Thanks for watching!
They are telling me I should not have been watching this under the table at my wedding reception. I do not fault you for making an extraordinarily interesting video. What an artist you are.
Doh ! Ha ! Thanks Philip. Lol !
The craftsmanship of this repair was simply amazing. Wow!
I can’t imagine what it sounds like live if it sounds that good over a camera/phone mic. The natural reverb from the body is beautiful…
Watching this all the way to the end so that i could hear that extraordinary tone coming from that exquisite guitar was the pay off to some very fine workmanship.
This restoration is nothing but true art by a maestro, I must say. And what a detailed video, loved the way you described everything. MUCH LOVE
I like the way that you don't cut any corners.
Lol, this is a guitar that is up to $15k to buy. Nobody would bring it to a corner cutter.
He radiused a couple
