I found your work on the 7 different styles of the Viking age back in college and am slowly designing a tree with animals based on this style. Thank you for all your work and reference pieces!
Thank you. I'll keep them coming! Hope you'll get a chance to check out the new video: th-cam.com/video/wp2GCnJnENs/w-d-xo.html I think you'll like it too
I own your Anatomy of Viking Art book which has been really helpful but I've been looking for more, specifically for Urnes style and this was absolutely incredible. Also discovered that you have a Ringerike style book that I must get now!
Thank you so much. Learning about what NOT to do is just as if not more valuable than learning what you SHOULD do. One thing that I'm struggling with is figuring out where the "vines" (for lack of a better term - the thinner tendrils) go in the design? Is it also just used to fill out white space in the design? And does the patterns of the vines also follow the figure eight loop?
My pleasure. Glad you found it helpful :) Yes the thinner tendrils is mostly used as fillers. But you usually have to plan them out somewhat beforehand still, or at least weave the other larger ribbons loosely with the space in between distributed evenly. And yes, the thinner tendrils follow the figure eight somewhat strictly too.
I don't know about irl courses, but I'm working on creating some online courses. You can check them out here: jonaslaumarkussen.com/courses/ Lot's of lessons already up
