I recently picked up the DS223j. So far so good. Seems very solid, easy to setup, etc. Only negative I have found is that it doesn't seem to support Synology Active Backup. Which seems like a big bummer. For backing up my PC (one of the main reasons I got the NAS) it seems like I will have to use the Synology Drive application. I think that will do the job.. but doesn't seem like a full complete backup tool like I was looking for.

Alla fine mancava il dato essenziale: SMB1,2,3 ?????? Win 11 sta rendendo le cose difficili, ho due(2) NAS vecchietti che funzionano benissimo in rete ma Win 11 li schifa. Quindi questi due come si comportano con Win11? Difficoltà alla connessione?

The real value of Synology is DSM, the box is good quality but the J editions are home basic NAS.

I just want to access and backup my data worldwide. I do not care for the third party app support. So Terramaster F2-212 then.

I got the Synology.... kind of as an introduction.... I had a pair of 18TB drives to drop in...
Up until this point I have been a Drobo DAS user and I still have a USB RAID box as my main storage (with 5x 10TB drives in it)
and I have to say it has been rock solid... Using it as a Movie Server... then Later added the capability of VPN Server.
BUT what I have noticed is that I cannot use the VPN service while I am backing up the NAS. (not surprising given the hardware limitations)
So.. for Christmas I mas be looking for a NEW synology NAS.
If anyone can suggest something in the UNDER 1 Grand range I would appreciate a synology that is fairly new with a decent life expectancy.

Got my first Synology NAS (used a QNAP for 13 years prior) about a year ago and opted for more bays than I thought I needed. Really glad I did this, and so I would recommend the DS1821+

@@DaystromDataConcepts Thank you for that :) unfortunately that one is just out of my price range. I see Amazon has a DS1522+ on sale for under $600 That I might just snag up today... Then I will have enough to buy a 3rd 18TB drive and should be set for expansion as needed.

You're very welcome. My bad. My DS1821+ model is under a grand (£965)here in the UK. Didn't consider U.S pricing. The 1522 is an excellent option.@@TheCynysterMind

Yes, but J Synology units do not support Active Backup. Deal breaker right there, as AB is THE premier Synology software.

not a fan of terramaster as I've had terrible experiences with more than one of their units. Switched to Synology and haven't looked back

Yes but with the limit of 1gb ram, however it's the same hardware than the 223 which has 2 gb
