    Really digging your videos. Came across you while watching 1fish2fish. So glad I did! I’m fishing cape romaine just north of Charleston where our water is much more stained. Do leader lengths apply to darker water as well? I understand the line weight/lure size would but how important is a leader in murky water?

  • @tightlinefishingadventures
    @tightlinefishingadventures 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your video is very informative. However, using braid with short leader tends the braid strands to bleed due to wearing ( repeated pinching with finger on casting). I am not sure if longer leader will have affect on casting distance due to friction of knot on guides.

    Hello Captain C A Richardson! Treasure "your" advice.
    What leader length and weight would you recommend for beach-surf fishing for Pompano, given that something other than Pompano, i.e. a fish with TEETH may hit my T & A Goofy Jig with Teaser, and I might at times need to relocate to Jetties fishing instead. Do you have a favorite "Lure Retriever" for such situations when you get your lure hung up in a pothole/other? THANKS for all you do!

    The kind of line on your reel makes a difference too. I use a longer leader with braid than mono because of visibility.

    What about saltwater situations? For example casting for bluefish and stripper from shoreline, or deep jigging for tuna? I use 1-2 rod lengths since it's what I've always used, but lately I've started questioning what the right length is.

      Ed Salt with natural bait many times if you aren’t fishing around cover, it’s about keeping leader light enough so that the bait can behave naturally

    thank you captain, well done. homosassa fl here your thoughts and advise on bringing leaders through your tip/guides, or not. tried the fg but i seem to rely on double uni. and i do not bring them to my tip top because they tend to weaken thank you send'em to the dentist!

    • @BeanbagSAV
      @BeanbagSAV 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Sobol Check our the Albright knot. It’s a lot thinner than the double uni so it passes through the guides easier and the way it sits together seems to minimize abrasion. It’s also really easy to tie.

      If you're using fluorocarbon leaders don't reel the knot through the tip top. It will, in fact, weaken the connection causing it to break. Fluorocarbon is stiff. If I gave you a small steel rod you can't just bend it immediately and break it, but if you bend it on one spot, the metal will fatigue and ultimately break. Monofilament/ copolymers are soft and can take more abuse going through the guides. But fluorocarbon is similar to that steel rod and each time you cast, the rod tip flexes and the knot and line are forced to bend with it as it leaves the tip of the rod, thus fatiguing the connection.

  • @FloridaBackwaters
    @FloridaBackwaters 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video as I’ve been tying 32 inch leaders for everything but I’ve been fishing in a kayak up till now, so the fish it fray snip some off re tie and I typically use 20lb mono for everything. So my question is what size lb wise leader should I be typically using? My typical setup is gold spoon the minnow by Johnson then top water and various shad tail baits including 3D shrimp etc ...

    • @flatsclasscharters
      @flatsclasscharters 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      FloridaBackwaters again need dictates the leader weight. But for your shrimp imitation and spoon, 20# is fine. But your topwater leader needs to be heavier (30# plus) and short in length 15”. Appreciate the support!

    I like the tips but you did not cover 5 factors. I only got 4 of them.
    1. Surf/Top Water Baits LL 10-15 in
    2. Power Fish Baits LL 2ft (24in)
    3. Slow Catch/Finesse Baits LL 3ft min up to 4-5ft on clear water sunny days
    4. Fast Catch/Finesse Bait LL 2ft to 30 in
    5. ?? Where did I miss this one?
    Overall I watch another video and it did mention a couple but your was more detail with example of the lures. That is teaching with skills and not just words. Do you have a video on trying your leader line to the lures you used in this video?
    Thanks for sharing.

    How about where to target Reds, or anything in Crystal River on a day like today. It was blowing 15 to 20. Tide was high at 2 pm. Fished out at low tide and moved back to the Mangroves with the tide. Skunked. Lol. Every lure on Earth in the boat. Couldn't find fish. Run and gun, nope. Slow and steady Ned rigging, nope. Rough day. Tucked my tail and trying to figure winter out. Mainly when it's blowing hard. Bay boat . No skiff. Can only get to some places. Skiff to come in spring. Ugh what a day. Lol
