I’m practicing for this test- I’m not understanding how he’s not overheating. Doesn’t the wps have a max interpass temp? Welding continuously will pump this thing up to damn near 1000 degrees for me. Am I missing something?
Was wondering if you can tell me ptw-20 vs ptw-18 tig torch I'm trying to practice for this test and we have a ptw-20 i noticed every video I watch everyone use the jumbo tig torch that would be the ptw-18 from what I've researched can anyone give me some advice on
@KentuckyWeldingInstitute i figured the the only thing my boss is old school and doesn't want to up grade guess I'll keep struggling because even my boss can't give me advice to get better its a long story but I've been practicing solo for this test and I feel like I'm getting close but still far away I've been welding since 2014 but pipe for me is a different animal before I give on welding I want to conquer pipe welding is there an email or say Instagram or TikTok i can send you guess some pictures or videos of my welds to see where I stand my company is beating around the bush so I'm just gonna keep practicing and most likely find another job i could use some help
That test is UA63 Unlimited Wall Thickness. I just don’t understand the root pass. It looks too thick and hanging down in the pipe, which will create turbulence. Maybe it just because of the camera. My roots look like a wedding band. Slick and flush all the way around. I’m not saying this is wrong, or that it won’t shoot. Just different, that’s all.
Also since I can’t edit my comment, this test you’re given 4 hours to do. No need to rush. That causes mistakes, and the inspector will get your money.
I get the speed part, but let's not be telling guys in school how important it is to be fast. Doing it over is going to take a lot more time. That's a guarantee. Learn to do it right. Then learn to get faster while maintaining the standard. Companies want a lot of things, but they won't tolerate mistakes just because you're fast.

Only if they say there is an inter-pass temp or checking it.

Correct, speed comes with time but being fast and good will get you on jobs quicker and staying on the jobs longer. That’s what Kegan is saying.
