  • Ski area Alpe Cimbra Folgaria Lavarone, Folgaria, Trentino - Fiorentini, Fondo Grande, Fondo Piccolo, Serrada.
South-east of Trento, a network of 74 km of pistes stretches between the tourist resort of Folgaria and the locations of Fondo Grande, Piccolo and Fiorentini on barely two thousand hills. The web of tracks is stretched to a relatively respectable area and fully connected by cable cars.
Above the tourist resort of Folgaria, and still far from it, stretches a peaceful hilly area, which is covered by a network of pistes with a somewhat unusual area - as if a spider is trying to see where the 74 km long fiber of pistes can reach. The slopes are most often "red" gentle, although with a more limited elevation of around 300 to 400 m. The nice side of Folgaria's popularity with recreational skiers is the quite calm, almost slow-motion traffic on the slopes, even on weekends with a large number of visitors. The result is a fairly ideal configuration for less skilled travelers and slightly advanced children.
The plateau here has an unusually strong panoramic dimension - although the landscape is full of in no way impressive hills, there is no significant peak that obstructs the views far and wide. To the west, the panorama is framed by the Brenta massif and to the north by the Ortler, Ötztal Alps and the Dolomites. It's hard to believe what a mountain amphitheater can be seen from the peaks at only 1,700 or 1,800 m above sea level. All the high places in the area offer a far-reaching view, while the top of everything is the Costa d'Agra, where you can turn your head around and always have in view of "something glorious".
From a skiing point of view, the most fertile is the valley stretching right from Folgaria to the Passo Coe saddle with the Fondo Grande and Fondo Piccolo starting points. Ski slopes run into it on both sides, which, despite the lower altitude, do not lack a brisk slope in places, only the bottom of the valley itself is gentle. The pistes are sufficiently densely concentrated and you can always go in three or four different directions from the valley.
The landscape around the Passo Coe saddle is more open and flat, somewhat reminiscent of the Nordic dales. Across the wide plains above Alpe di Folgaria, long cable cars and crossings connect the location of Fiorentini, which once hosted skiers, then disappeared from the map and was revived a few years ago. There are gentle pistes running through the forest and a small number of skiers on them - there is only one hotel at the starting station of the chairlift in Fiorentini, and it takes more than an hour to get here on skis from Folgaria. Moderate pistes flow on the northwestern edge of the web towards Ortesino and Costa.
Even beginners will find a very successful background here. The training grounds are concentrated on the training meadows at the bottom of the main valley (Fondo Grande and Piccolo) and outside it are also located at the foot of the slopes in Costa and Fiorentini. And it is at the edges of the area in Costa and Fiorentini that the most suitable tracks are for those who are getting ready for the "big" slopes for the first time. The red tracks are almost always wide enough, rather more comfortable, and thanks to them and light jumpers, the slightly advanced can cross most of the area very quickly. And that in the quiet operational "beat" of the ski area, which benefits from the enormous territorial dispersion and the resulting absence of busy intersections.
A cross-country skier or cross-country skier will find a promised place in Folgaria, of which there are not many. Beautiful scenic cross-country trails with 35 km of trails are arranged around the Passo Coe saddle at an altitude of 1,600 m above sea level. There is also a running facility right in the saddle - a center with changing rooms, showers, service and picnic rooms, a rental office or a school.
Snowshoe trips are very popular, for which a number of routes are marked here - the slightly arched, relatively clear and scenic terrain with plenty of snow around Alpe di Folgaria is perfect for meditative walks. This 'sport' is growing in popularity in the Alps and it is almost a given that hikers go with a guide
The largest accommodation base is Folgaria, a small town with a picturesque pedestrian center with hotels, restaurants, bars and many shops with artistic souvenirs, around which there is a widely scattered recreational development - unfortunately without a direct cable car connection to the ski terrain. You can stay directly on the slope in Fondo Grande and Piccolo, both are artificial resorts around the start stations of the cable cars with several hotels, just a few steps to the cable car there is also Serrada, a small original village. A very practical place is Francolini, a small hotel settlement above Folgaria with an old two-seater right in the heart of the area.
