Hello Simon, I’m a fairly new subscriber and late to the party as I just came across this video now. I don’t normally comment but this deck is very special to me. It was my first deck given to me by my Mother when I was 13-14 years old. It came with a black reading cloth and a softcover version of the black book which eventually fell apart. I also had a colouring workbook for it. The reason my Mother chose this deck for me was because it was based on the Greek Myths and she thought it would be a good fit for my age and also because my Father was Greek-Cypriot and had died the year before. I cherish this deck and I had no idea the new version was so different. I prefer the original deck/artwork.
I have an old version and the new one. I like them both, but for some reason prefer the new edition. It took awhile for me to get it because so many complained, but I really like it!
Another explanation for the lack of numbering is that they made the conscious decision that the Empress should precede the High Priestess. Being out of order was quite intentional. (I believe I came across that information in the black book accompanying the original version.)
Funny how my first reaction was, no one is wearing a mask! They should be wearing a mask.. we live in strange times for sure.. but that shop looks nice! We don't really have shops selling tarot here unfortunately :/ or fortunately :D The city looks nice! Too many people for me X;D And you bought the deck in the name of science, so it's okay! :D

Great vibe but i was surprised to see no one except one gentleman in the shop wearing masks! Masks are mandatory in NY. Just another thing to make sure you have before leaving your house!
I only came across this deck today. I just got a Tarot App From Fool's Dog?? Anyway, it shows a card of the day using 5 different decks. I fell in love with the Ace of Cups depicting Aphrodite. I really love the books description. If you're saying that you get the same amount of information from the new deck I'll have to check it out. Either way getting the app for The Mythic Tarot is only $3.99, so I'll get it!!! I prefer the art of the original one but there are some I like better with the new one.

I absolutely loved your walk around, Nottingham is such a beautiful city and so many places that I remember seeing when I visited you. It was wonderful to see them all again, especially all the lovely old buildings and Ice Nine! The necklace they had in the window with the pentacle in the middle and the moons either side making up the triple moon was beautiful. I have the original Mythic Tarot from 1986, and I totally love the mythic situations tying the minors together into cohesive stories that matter. That said, I find the execution of the artwork in the revised version somehow misses the mark on many levels. I really don’t care that some of the image compositions were reversed from right to left in Casselli’s art, as I just generally assume that however figures face in Any Deck is how they are supposed to face or be arranged In That Deck, regardless of how they might face in other decks. I find that it visually helps that Newell’s art has definite outlines/borders around the arms/legs/faces, etc. The abrupt change in colors without defined outlines in the flatter color blocks of Casselli’s art makes it harder to “see” details of what’s in the image clearly, compared to Newell’s more gradient and outlined drawings. This difference is immediately front and center in the Fool cards, and it doesn’t improve much in many of the other cards. Caselli’s choices in colors just don’t fit somehow, they seem more nebulous and less nuanced compared to Newell’s choices. For example, Caselli’s hawk in the Fool’s tree is almost a smear, the oak leaves in the Fool’s hair garland are nearly indistinguishable, and the innovative foxtail dangling off his belt seems stiff and artificial. Maybe Casselli is implying that the Fool isn’t as clever as he thinks he is, but given the visual presentation of emotional obtuseness on other cards, I’m not persuaded that that is the case. Giovanni Casselli's art is technically “better” in that the human/divine/animal bodies are more correctly/realistically proportioned than in the original, ***but the faces and postures are somehow more generic, more mannikin-like, less emotionally moving than in Tricia Newell’s art***. For example, the Magician is more actively and emotionally invested in his work in Newell’s drawing than he appears to be in Casselli’s, even though they are otherwise identical in clothing, tools, and setting. And Casselli’s Empress is so blurry compared to Newell’s, She loses the profound intricacy of Her abundance… not optimal in my book. So when I use the cards for readings, I forgive and hardly notice the stiffness and disproportions in Newell’s art, but I feel bereft of emotional connection to the figures in Casselli’s art. I think this is the biggest disparity between the 2 decks . I agree that Caselli’s deck is better than nothing if you can’t get hold of Newell’s original, because the whole mythological concept of how this deck is arranged is so unusual and so enriching. Get this deck for its mythological sequencing!!! It’s amazing and wonderful story telling, regardless of any given artist’s limitations!!!

I noticed in the older version the images looked closer whereas the new version they look like they were further away (bit like a photo when you zoom in or out). I think this will be deck I'll be adding to my collection. By the way I love that tarot shop you showed us Ice Nine - intriguing name.
Very nice video and i'm glad to see you out and about having a nice time, but... i must admit it was bizarre to me seing so many people without masks! LOL Yeah and saying that it's bizarre in itself. Right now in my city is mandatory to wear a mask everywhere public and i think you'll have to pay 100 euros if they catch you without it.

Enjoyed the Sunday stroll with you! What a lovely city. We don’t have much in the way of metaphysical shops here in Chicago anymore though I did find one a few months ago. I noticed the absence of masks right away. We have to wear them here but I see a lot of people out and about without them.
Great video tour and deck comparison! The original deck was my first tarot deck way back in 1986. (I was just a small child...😳)I never connected with it as I didn’t have the book. I ended up getting a yellow box RWS that came with a book to learn. It would be interesting to know why some of the changes were made to certain cards. I’ll have to pull this deck out and work with it again! 💜
it looks like the actual art is same size on both decks... im thinking trim the borders and mix it up! the most noticable change i see is the scale of the figures.
I always enjoy your 'day out' videos, and hope maybe sometime you'll do a dinner prep with Simon including a shopping trip to your grocery, and kitchen, menu & prep, and sit down to eat. As to the tarot, I think both have merits some cards in the old version I like better, some in the new I prefer.
I have the original 1st edition 1986 Mythic Tarot that I bought off of eBay and after watching your video the verdict for me is that I still love the original Mythic Tarot because of the natural sketchy beauty of the artwork and coloring. I hope someday that a third edition will be produced with the original artwork printed on sturdier card stock (same or better cardstock as the 2nd edition); then and only then will I buy a 2nd copy of the Mythic Tarot. I love the original cards and much prefer them over the newer version. I think the people look a little strange in the newer one, however the animals look great. I am pretty lucky to have an original art style deck, a 2006 Australian published one. One thing that speaks to me with the older style is that the actions, focus and direction seem a lot clearer (The sister's whispering, steady hands on the reins, the tower itself, the calm bay beyond the rocks, Zues royal purple robe etc). Two lovely decks anyhow. :)
Finally, my mom gifted me this deck without any packing and I've been trying to find the name of the cards . This is awesome I had no idea these cards were worth that much. She gave me the cloth to go with them also but not the book. The card stock is horrible but they do shuffle like a dream lol.
It was interesting to see the differences in versions, i think i would prefer the 80s one more so. Loved the walk was wonderful to watch thanks for sharing🥰
Nottingham looks pretty good! :) I’m lucky to own a vintage copy, which I do prefer. But this walkthrough has made me realise the new version isn’t all that bad at all! This deck is worth getting for the great book alone xx
Thanks for sharing with us your stroll. I am legitimately surprised by the lack of masks hahahaha but it varies country-wise I'm guessing! The new book looks amazing!!! I love the white space in it wow, even if it has the same content. But omg the backs are not great like you mentioned + the art is really less clear. I prefer the original's outlines and more art noveau style. A pity they couldn't get the original images to work in the new deck. I appreciate this side by side, thanks Simon

Hello Simon, just about to watch this video thank you, and I enjoyed your last video with Will and Heidi too, so thank you all for sharing your experiences. I think you are such a wonderful person Simon, I love your channel and your video content. You and your videos have brought me much comfort of late, I find you such a calming and healing influence to watch and to listen to. Lately I have been struggling with my mental health and having your channel to watch has been such a source of comfort. I hope this doesn’t sound too silly, but I really can’t convey just how calming and relaxing, (even as far to say) just how restorative and transporting your videos truly are ! I love to watch you drink your coffee in the morning and particularly on your “cuppa, catch up and cards” videos, I love how you ask what cuppa we are all having ! And isn’t it funny, but even hearing you say “Hey up me ducks” at the beginning of every video really puts a huge smile on my face. It is perhaps the comfort of your own routine and the little things that you do and say in each of your videos that helps me to want to get back into a more consistent routine of my own. I’m from the U.K. too, I live near the Lake District. Thank you Simon for all you do, you are such a lovely decent person and a beautiful soul, that much shines through the screen every time I watch your channel 🙏🏽
I couldn’t have said it better! I feel the same. I’m so scattered brained and his routine is calming and grounding. It’s as if I know what he is going to do in his routine and that is grounding and soothing. And I live outside Orlando, there’s a large UK group here. Champions Gates, Kissimmee, Davenport has many subdivisions and they own houses and come stay on holiday!! 🙏🏻🤙🏻🌈

I have the purple back edition with original art. Cardstock isn’t bad. I got the New Mythic in a trade and while I love the original artwork, the New Mythic reads better for me. Also, when I’ve seen it photographed on IG, it looks really good!
I'm jealous of you Simon. The U.K. has the most beautiful metaphysical shops.😁 Unlike here in the states where we have nothing. Maybe I'll travel to the U.K. one day just to take advantage of all the little shops. Nice deck review.
Okay first of all, that stroll was so refreshing and it didn't hurt not one of my muscles...lol. Thank you. I did gasp all the way through at each person without a mask and was relieved a bit when you ventured into less populated areas. Next up, if I am not mistaken, this video loaded DURING playdate and in this very video, you randomly stopped in the book on the Sun card followed by your comment "I've stopped on the Sun card for whatever reason" and then...the Sun card turns out to be the card for the playdate. 😱 Amazing. Did you even realize it during playdate or am I the only one who watched this and recalls this video literally loaded DURING playdate on the same day the Sun card was the card randomly pulled for playdate? Let me go pull out some Sun cards and reflect on whatever I'm clearly supposed to pay attention to. Thanks for the stroll and the walkthrough as always.

I didn't know of either, but lucky me; I prefer the new edition! It has a better contrast of color - a little brighter and bolder. It is interesting how the artist has changed up many of the cards. What a lovely walk - lovely to see different places in the sun. I still haven't ventured into the city Centre here in Cardiff yet, but there's something about a fresh pint in the sun while people watching. Soon, soon. I much prefer the old Mythic Tarot, although I don't have either. It's not a deck that pulls me in. Just got my fist copy of Crystal Visions Tarot on a whim. It feels so 90's!

Lovely walk. I'm so sad we had to cancel our England vacation this year. About the deck: I've both versions, both trimmed down to the image and edged. I bought the New Mythic Tarot to get the guidebook (since the old one is hard to get and usually very pricey) and the old Mythic Tarot because of the artwork. I was lucky to find a German version of the old Mythic on BD, (even cheaper than the New Mythic) but it is now out of print.
SIMON I too have the original Mythic Tarot Deck it's from 1986. Mine came with a Reading Cloth, and my Book is Soft Cover. Oops. Felt really homesick but glad to see it all looked a bit empty but very normal. I loved working in the Shire Hall and the buildings in the Lace Market. I have got the old Mythic deck, old book and workbook and a newer edition of the cards on thicker card. Oops also got the new Mythic deck but I have never felt inspired enough to really use it.
Simon, I have just trimmed the new Mythic tarot this week. The deck does look better but the cards are very, very small. I have just completed a video just to give people an idea what the cards would look like without the boarder. Clare - Hash Tag Tarot.
definitely prefer the original Mythic tarot, everywhere they have changed it IMO it;s for the worse. I loved your sunny Sunday walk, your town centre is just so different to Sydney. Yours has the age & the beauty of the buildings. It seems like all they were worried about here is building things fast.

I hope someday that a third edition will be produced with the original artwork printed on sturdier card stock (same or better cardstock as the 2nd edition); then and only then will I buy a 2nd copy of the Mythic Tarot. I love the original cards and much prefer them over the newer version. I think the people look a little strange in the newer one, however the animals look great.
I am pretty lucky to have an original art style deck, a 2006 Australian published one.
One thing that speaks to me with the older style is that the actions, focus and direction seem a lot clearer (The sister's whispering, steady hands on the reins, the tower itself, the calm bay beyond the rocks, Zues royal purple robe etc).

Finally, my mom gifted me this deck without any packing and I've been trying to find the name of the cards . This is awesome
I had no idea these cards were worth that much. She gave me the cloth to go with them also but not the book. The card stock is horrible but they do shuffle like a dream lol.
It was interesting to see the differences in versions, i think i would prefer the 80s one more so. Loved the walk was wonderful to watch thanks for sharing🥰
Nottingham looks pretty good! :) I’m lucky to own a vintage copy, which I do prefer. But this walkthrough has made me realise the new version isn’t all that bad at all! This deck is worth getting for the great book alone xx

Thanks for sharing with us your stroll. I am legitimately surprised by the lack of masks hahahaha but it varies country-wise I'm guessing! The new book looks amazing!!! I love the white space in it wow, even if it has the same content. But omg the backs are not great like you mentioned + the art is really less clear. I prefer the original's outlines and more art noveau style. A pity they couldn't get the original images to work in the new deck. I appreciate this side by side, thanks Simon

Hello Simon, just about to watch this video thank you, and I enjoyed your last video with Will and Heidi too, so thank you all for sharing your experiences. I think you are such a wonderful person Simon, I love your channel and your video content. You and your videos have brought me much comfort of late, I find you such a calming and healing influence to watch and to listen to. Lately I have been struggling with my mental health and having your channel to watch has been such a source of comfort. I hope this doesn’t sound too silly, but I really can’t convey just how calming and relaxing, (even as far to say) just how restorative and transporting your videos truly are ! I love to watch you drink your coffee in the morning and particularly on your “cuppa, catch up and cards” videos, I love how you ask what cuppa we are all having ! And isn’t it funny, but even hearing you say “Hey up me ducks” at the beginning of every video really puts a huge smile on my face. It is perhaps the comfort of your own routine and the little things that you do and say in each of your videos that helps me to want to get back into a more consistent routine of my own. I’m from the U.K. too, I live near the Lake District. Thank you Simon for all you do, you are such a lovely decent person and a beautiful soul, that much shines through the screen every time I watch your channel 🙏🏽

I couldn’t have said it better! I feel the same. I’m so scattered brained and his routine is calming and grounding. It’s as if I know what he is going to do in his routine and that is grounding and soothing.
And I live outside Orlando, there’s a large UK group here. Champions Gates, Kissimmee, Davenport has many subdivisions and they own houses and come stay on holiday!! 🙏🏻🤙🏻🌈

I have the purple back edition with original art. Cardstock isn’t bad. I got the New Mythic in a trade and while I love the original artwork, the New Mythic reads better for me. Also, when I’ve seen it photographed on IG, it looks really good!
The deck you opened is the correct order for the original mythic but I'm assuming you have discovered that by now 💜🕉

Okay first of all, that stroll was so refreshing and it didn't hurt not one of my muscles...lol. Thank you. I did gasp all the way through at each person without a mask and was relieved a bit when you ventured into less populated areas. Next up, if I am not mistaken, this video loaded DURING playdate and in this very video, you randomly stopped in the book on the Sun card followed by your comment "I've stopped on the Sun card for whatever reason" and then...the Sun card turns out to be the card for the playdate. 😱 Amazing. Did you even realize it during playdate or am I the only one who watched this and recalls this video literally loaded DURING playdate on the same day the Sun card was the card randomly pulled for playdate? Let me go pull out some Sun cards and reflect on whatever I'm clearly supposed to pay attention to. Thanks for the stroll and the walkthrough as always.

The mythic tarot is my first deck.
I didn't know of either, but lucky me; I prefer the new edition! It has a better contrast of color - a little brighter and bolder.
It is interesting how the artist has changed up many of the cards.

What a lovely walk - lovely to see different places in the sun. I still haven't ventured into the city Centre here in Cardiff yet, but there's something about a fresh pint in the sun while people watching. Soon, soon. I much prefer the old Mythic Tarot, although I don't have either. It's not a deck that pulls me in. Just got my fist copy of Crystal Visions Tarot on a whim. It feels so 90's!

Lovely walk. I'm so sad we had to cancel our England vacation this year. About the deck: I've both versions, both trimmed down to the image and edged. I bought the New Mythic Tarot to get the guidebook (since the old one is hard to get and usually very pricey) and the old Mythic Tarot because of the artwork. I was lucky to find a German version of the old Mythic on BD, (even cheaper than the New Mythic) but it is now out of print.
SIMON I too have the original Mythic Tarot Deck it's from 1986. Mine came with a Reading Cloth, and my Book is Soft Cover. I agree with you I like the original version better ,but the New Version is very Good too. I will definitely pick up The New Version, So I can Enjoy The Mythic Tarot. Keeping my original like New. Oops. Felt really homesick but glad to see it all looked a bit empty but very normal. I loved working in the Shire Hall and the buildings in the Lace Market. I have got the old Mythic deck, old book and workbook and a newer edition of the cards on thicker card. Oops also got the new Mythic deck but I have never felt inspired enough to really use it.
I like the smaller one on the right better. The colors are more vibrant.
Simon, I have just trimmed the new Mythic tarot this week. The deck does look better but the cards are very, very small. I have just completed a video just to give people an idea what the cards would look like without the boarder.

I loved your sunny Sunday walk, your town centre is just so different to Sydney. Yours has the age & the beauty of the buildings. It seems like all they were worried about here is building things fast.
