I never comment in youtube videos or any other social media for that matter, I'm more of a silent watcher. I just spent like 50 minutes tracking down this vid since I used to watch it around 40 times a day in 2009... didn't know if I was ever gonna find it. Still is awesome.
That's very genius of you because if you play like this you'll be happy, you can become famous in a band and make lots of money and get a hot but kind wife
Wow Andy your really amazing you are mean and clean a very rare combonation I have been friends with chris broderick and have admired his playing for years you remind me of his playing alot keep up the great playing ... cheers
Then the world melted, and the universe imploded. All that was left at the centre was Andy James, and he created new matter and made new worlds........and it was good.
I find very funny watching at his pinky, that thing flipping non stop, like saying, let me play it,please let me. :) Of course playing sounds wonderful as always.
A great pleasure for me as a guitarist to watch Andy play. Would recommend any learning guitarist looking for inspiration to improve both as a musician as well as on the technical side. Andy rocks !!! :)
this is actually completely insane. I think that andy james is a LOT better than many famous guitar players that you may know from other bands. This solo include so fucking many techniques, its just mad. FAR better than i've heard in a long time. I'm proud
this song's incorporation of melodic sweep picking and alternate picking with the off beat tempo and the constantly changing chord progressions reminds me of good ol' tony macalpine shredding. love it.
seen lots of his stuff the trouble with him he hypnotizes me every time i try to learn a lick library dvd i get sod all done with out doubt one of the best guitarists in the world whatever you can do this guy will do it my favs include the joe satriani dvd and yngwie malmsteen watch the dvd samples there sick......................................
4:26 omg I've tried to learn that bend->slip-to-next-string thing from a Paul Gilbert lesson. I never succeeded. You, Andy James, is the master of all guitar techniques!
i have never seen andy james play like that before. he is amazing! i think andy could easily have famous metal players run for their money. the different scales and licks he covers are awesome!
I actually laughed at 1:44 those sweeps are so smooth it's ridiculous. It reminded me of the boss in the shadow temple of zelda: ocarina of time? Amazing playing! I wish I could sweep that smoothly..
That's what soloing is, hitting notes in the correct key in your choice of scale. And he mixed it up, using diminished, harmonic minor, and some pentatonic shred.
Andy James is teaching and performing with his band "Scared Mother Tongue" at MonkeyFest 1st - 3rd July in Woking, UK MonkeyFest tickets here: monkeyfest.co.uk
Never realized Andy James is like my favorite guitar players. He has the power of Dimebag, Syn, Mark Morton, Kirk, Adam D, and Zakk Wylde in his hands. If I were 1/3 as bad as this dude..Well I would be pretty badass.
GUYTH, does this super duper ultra mega awesome tune have a name? I believe it would, someone please tell me what it is!! God, anything this guy does is soooooo gooooo_0d!!!!
Did any of you listen to the solo? Who gives a shit if he doesn't use his pinky. Its not about technique its about the final product, and Andy James is a badass guitarman.
I said that in my comment sir, and you are correct I am not dogging on his tone, and I don't have a better rig. I know he's a great guy and excellent player (I said it quite a bit in my comment), I was just pointing out that he is using a hairtie which gives nearly any player the ability to play clean, even though I know for a fact Andy James can shred like crazy without it and still do just as well or better. Thank you :)
If angus young saw that this guy was wearing his shirt, he would probably quit playing the guitar immediately or cry, one of the two, the level this guy plays with surpasses human comprehension
This is amazing. How he and SMT aren't more famous is beyond me. This kind of talent shouldn't be wasted doing Lick Library it should be blowing people's brains to shit \m/
@Chargeglass Nope, just a regular hairband. There are various other things people have used, selotape at the 1st fret, a mates hand or there are even mechanical things with soft material attached. It's not advisable to use in almost any situation except recording though as people hate on everyone that uses them (unless they are famous because that somehow makes it ok). If you search "mystical potato head thing" you will see another example of this technique
oh yeah when I do some eight finger tappy junk I do use a hairtie :P I wish I had the petrucci 7 string, all I have is (I have a vid) a modified RG7321 :\ it gets the job done. Well, happy shredding!!! :)
excellent solos, but I think (now this is just a personal preference here) that I would be more impressed with the string skipping with tapping if there was no headband/hairtie on the neck, and his sweeps are clean, but in this particular video (I've seen other videos of him without it and he's still an excellent player), it's somewhat due to the hairtie. I know Romeo does not use one and does more extreme tapping and string skipping and it's cleaner than this, but again, excellent solos :)
@Artybruh hahaha thanks for the encouragement man, honestly tho i could never quit guitar, its like sex without the risk of aids haha. and as far as songs off that album i recommend: "Spokes for the Wheel of Torment"(has a very disturbing music video tho), "woods of suicide", "the treeman" and one of my favorite Bhead songs ever "fountains of the forgotten". You keep on shredding too man, dont let guitar bullies like andy james, yngwie malmsteen, and buckethead discourage you haha
@DragonForce191 1.)This is not the lesson part thought, it says performance during the video. 2.)MAB has his own signature dampeners for live use. 3.)It is because he is a professional that he uses the string dampeners. He is hired by licklibrary. Getting the perfect take for the performance in as few a takes as possible saves his bosses money. Also he's doing these DVD's to teach you not impress you
@yamahaing7737 man, never really listened to that album, can you reccomend me some of the best delicious shredtastic tracks from that album?? also don't give up lol, pretty sure Andy James is like the leading metal guitarist of our generation lol, he can do anything What I'm trying to say is, if "not being able to play a Andy James song" was a reason to give up on guitar, then the majority of guitarists would be in BIIIIIIIG trouble ;) especially me :'( I struggle with 4-5 finger tapping :'(
@Raziel236 where the hell did you find Knight of Cydonia in this song dude. Anyways it was probably the scale he is using, Matt Bellamy uses the same scales/chrord progressions to get that sound he gets in songs like KoC or Stockholm Syndrome, which is not that usual, thats why msot people playing the scales "sound like muse"
@DragonForce191 Actually it is only because this guy had a 5 minute solo to record in one take, The slightest mistake would have been stuck there had he not used the dampener. All the best musicians use them for recording, Marty Friedman, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai. It's merely because you might get 2 takes, 1 sounds amazing but has 1 mistake, the other has zero mistakes but sounds less good. The string dampener preserves the good take, the mistake is still there but unnoticeable
I never comment in youtube videos or any other social media for that matter, I'm more of a silent watcher. I just spent like 50 minutes tracking down this vid since I used to watch it around 40 times a day in 2009... didn't know if I was ever gonna find it. Still is awesome.
My dream is this. Not money, not a beautiful wife, not happiness, but to be able play like this someday.
That's very genius of you because if you play like this you'll be happy, you can become famous in a band and make lots of money and get a hot but kind wife
its very achievable i reckon, just lots of practise
Wow Andy your really amazing you are mean and clean a very rare combonation I have been friends with chris broderick and have admired his playing for years you remind me of his playing alot keep up the great playing ... cheers
Andy James is awe-inspiring. Truly outstanding. Period.
Then the world melted, and the universe imploded. All that was left at the centre was Andy James, and he created new matter and made new worlds........and it was good.

what is this .my mind cant take it..this guy just planted himself in history..he deserves respect ..
this is actually completely insane. I think that andy james is a LOT better than many famous guitar players that you may know from other bands. This solo include so fucking many techniques, its just mad. FAR better than i've heard in a long time. I'm proud
This is truely amazing I believe that Andy James is one of the best guitarist in the WORLD he has talent and skill truly beautiful
this song's incorporation of melodic sweep picking and alternate picking with the off beat tempo and the constantly changing chord progressions reminds me of good ol' tony macalpine shredding. love it.

4:26 omg I've tried to learn that bend->slip-to-next-string thing from a Paul Gilbert lesson. I never succeeded. You, Andy James, is the master of all guitar techniques!

This guy has more complex rhythm sections than most bands have solos!
that's musicality with technic just awesome thumb up bro
wow, thats amazing............one of the best iv seen
sweeping like a madman
good stuff
andy james is one of my favorite shredders. I just cant for the life of me figure out why he has so few views.
I actually laughed at 1:44 those sweeps are so smooth it's ridiculous. It reminded me of the boss in the shadow temple of zelda: ocarina of time?
Amazing playing! I wish I could sweep that smoothly..
This man is god, I saw him play with Serpent Mother Tongue on friday and it was awe inspiring.
2:08 sounding a lot like Stockholme Syndrome (a MUSE song from Absolution).
That's what soloing is, hitting notes in the correct key in your choice of scale. And he mixed it up, using diminished, harmonic minor, and some pentatonic shred.
Holy shit, I love that evil-ass sound tapping.
Andy James is teaching and performing with his band "Scared Mother Tongue" at MonkeyFest 1st - 3rd July in Woking, UK MonkeyFest tickets here: monkeyfest.co.uk
wicked shreds!!!
man thats just awesome...
he is insane!! amazing !

This guy is a machine! I mean look at his hands for example when sweeping @ 3:18. SICK!
Its not about technique its about the final product, and Andy James is a badass guitarman.
oh my god that is amazing
@Ta1nTZA its called "underworld" awesome track!!
I said that in my comment sir, and you are correct I am not dogging on his tone, and I don't have a better rig. @guitarfan246 Nope it was a double bend then he let one string go as a substitute for that "missed note". Gave it a nice sound too.
OMG !.. i love the part from 0:00 - 5:45
epic shreddin !
@pikachusDeMoN it's a guitar and have 7 strings. he's not using the additional one above the E string
OMG HIS HANDS IS GIGANTIC
The riff part reminds me a lot of Stockholm Syndrome by Muse... AWESOME!
This is amazing. How he and SMT aren't more famous is beyond me. This kind of talent shouldn't be wasted doing Lick Library it should be blowing people's brains to shit \m/

OMG GEEEEEEZZZUZZZ!!!!! THIS IS SO EPIC!!!!!
amazing i wish i could do that
he was awesome then, and he’s even better now!
Guitar heaven music.

Yes you! You play good guitar. Cheers
Accuracy 101% of the max human capability.
John petrucci signature guitar!! gonna get it soon! andy james is awesome.
I don't get why people always talk about Andy not using his pinky - he uses it every time he needs to
@DragonForce191
1.)This is not the lesson part thought, it says performance during the video.

This is way to cool..!!!!
he does use his pinky. on this solo. its on the chorus starting at 1:40. his pinky hits the 7th string... a-ton.
he has sick tapping skills
That was fandamtastic!!!
@yamahaing7737 man, never really listened to that album, can you reccomend me some of the best delicious shredtastic tracks from that album??

OMFG HES AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
@ScreaminSavior i know what you mean there are some parts where the chord progression is just like a A7X song,i think danger line...
nice, i was wondering if anyone else caught that little bit of muse influence.
@Raziel236 where the hell did you find Knight of Cydonia in this song dude. Anyways it was probably the scale he is using, Matt Bellamy uses the same scales/chrord progressions to get that sound he gets in songs like KoC or Stockholm Syndrome, which is not that usual, thats why msot people playing the scales "sound like muse"
who is this guy/what band is he in? This is one bad ass solo!
@DY761 Cool! John should have Andy sign his guitar. ;P
@WilsonAlmighty I know that song by Satriani, I'll have to check it out, thanks dude.
@DragonForce191
