    Thank you Mr. James for your time. Ive noticed a significant speed increase and also smoother playing in just one day. It made the end of my ring finger a little tougher too. :) Im not as fast as you and no where near as knowledgeable as you are at playing a guitar. far from it but It doesn't seem so impossibly far away with just one this simple lesson. Again ty very much.

    Yeah,i actually watched every lesson that Andy has made for the magazine and some of them have helped me tremendously,especially the Pentatonic lick video! Definately gave me lots of ideas in my playing!

    Yeah, I've gone back to metronome exercises with my pinky. The only reason I was looking to get around it was because I got tendonitis (but I think it was mainly from bad fretting hand positioning that I originally thought was good fretting hand positioning) a couple months ago. But I've changed my fretting hand positioning a little and I think I can continue working with the pinky without injuring my hand. Better to have it when I need it.

    @Jens Fittepupp if your serious start a the first fret and work your way to the 12 fret doing hammer ons & pull offs going up & down the fret board using your second finger 1st than your middle finger & last your pinky! I promise it strengthens your fingers, try it!

  • @dreadheadninja

    Just gotta put this out there. Pick ups play a major roll in sounding as clean as he does. If your rocking single coils on your squire strat, it's gonna sound the same as those active emg's.

    • @stevenb6253
      @stevenb6253 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can't tell if it's just my pickups but for tapping solos I have to really jam my fingers into the fret for it to even make a notes. That a problem with the pickups or the guitar or do I just plain suck and need to practice?

    @trogdor125 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    There are a few possible reasons why its not sounding right. Firstly what is your string action like? If the strings are too high off the fret board it can make it really difficult to do. A high sustain distorted tone will also help a lot. If that's not an issue its probably because when you are pulling off you should try to pull down on the string very slightly and when you are hammering on a note you really need to hammer your finger down on the fret. hope this helps :)

    i experienced one thing that if i change the direction of pick i miss and always miss some stroke but if i keep my pick at 90 degree angel towards strings i can play clean and without missing notes you have to beat the string with power if you wanna play clean and as time passes you will be able to play fast use a pick that doesnt bend with with little power

      When you do the pull off remember to pull the string down, you are acutely picking the note with your fretting hand, remember to keep it clean and to not hit other notes. Start off very slow with a metronome and work your way up, you can only pratice this for about 10 ro 15 mins before your muscles just won't work. Don't worry do this for a few weeks and you will get the trick down

    I haven't seen the next 2 lessons, but I noticed he doesn't use his pinky when he hits a note three frets up from a note he plays with his pointer finger (he uses his ring finger). I'm wondering if I should stop using my pinky when playing single notes.

  • @spudvader

    You don't have to have big hands to play guitar fast, look at Randy Rhodes, he was a small fella and he ripped it up like a beast or Tommi Iommi cut off some of his fingers but still rocks, django reinhardt fused his fingers together in an explosion but still plays insane jazz. It's just a hurdle and it may help you to develop a style of your own : D Have fun
