Thank you! and yes I personally think its the hardest place to find shadowing opportunities since the mental health OT pool is so small. Try psychiatric hospitals! They're usually more willing to have students observe especially if they're teaching hospitals
Omg I've been researching Occupational therapy for days now and I came upon this video. I'm still not 100% sure if Im going to take this degree and our school year is starting this august 24,I feel like I'm running out of time and also feel like I can't handle the curriculuma nd the subjects. Was your college experience hard? Did you have trouble with some of your units? Any advice for me as an upcoming college student and who is not really good with science? I appreciate this video so much and hope you'll see this
Hey! First I want to say that if you love OT and its something you can see yourself doing, please don't let the science classes intimidate you! I won't lie and say they were a walk in the park but they are DOABLE. It was hard work and I had to spend a lot of time studying, sometimes sacrificing my social life but whenever I felt like giving up I always reminded myself of my end-goal, which was to be an awesome OT :) I'm rooting for you and wishing you all the best as you make your decision!
Ricky G. I personally don’t have anyone’s contact info but we did have one virtual lecture together for our pediatrics course back in March where I got to meet some of them! It sounds like the experience is pretty similar but I believe they have less fieldwork/clinical experiences than we do. They’re program is also 3 years as opposed to 2 and they have cadaver labs (we didn’t).
Do you mean as part of the trial?? I feel like this is a decision that should solely be up to you. I personally think its an awesome opportunity to be a part of research.. if you are asking in the context of whether it is safe, every trial has its risks but you need to keep in mind that they have done many tests (on animals, smaller populations, etc.) to make sure it is safe enough to get to this stage
Hi thr Im akash , im 4th year bachelor's of occupational therapy , i have lot of interest in mental health , can u please recommend me any good university for MOT in mental health ????. And i have another question is Norway is good for studying MOT in mental health????
Hi Akash! I don't really know too much about OT programs outside of the USA. I went to Columbia University in NY and they are one of the few programs in the US who place a strong emphasis on mental health! I would just do some research on different programs and look at their curriculum to see what they focus on!
omg thank you so much for the shout out!! And yes, I completely agree that we need to get paid for level II's! :) Great video!
thank you!! and yesss especially during a global pandemic!
Thank you for sharing your experiences! I feel like I can know what to expect instead of going into fieldwork completely in the dark! ahahah
haha no problem!! And yes I know what you mean, I wish there were more videos like this on youtube when I first started my fieldworks!
Awesome video! I'm really interested in the mental health field and as a pre-OT student its pretty hard to shadow an OT in the setting.

Do you know anyone in the PT program? I’m trying to find people’s experiences in Columbia’s PT program and I can’t find any 😭
