- Hey friends! Welcome to our channel and to another of our caravan vlogs! In this video we have finally arrived at the caravan site which we've had the most recommendations for - Eye Kettleby Lakes in Melton Mowbray.
As you may know if you've watch some of our videos before, we are always on the lookout for a site with some added extras and this site has them in oodles. Not only does it have a bar and tearoom but it also boasts 8 fishing lakes if angling is your hobby. Not only that, but this is the site that people, including our wonderful viewers, have recommended the most.

I had heard a couple of people talk about this site, and after seeing your Vlog, I will definitely be booking a stay there. I bought my first campervan a few months ago, and travel with my seventeen year old dog, so your videos have been so helpful. I have already been to Concierge Camping after sering your video, and am staying at Back Of Beyond in September. Thank you so much for all your advice. Your videos are fun, and - for me who had never ventured onto a campsite before getting my van.....and with a senior dog - so helpful.

Excellent informative video, thanks for sharing. Melton Mowbray brought back memories of some of our former dogs: when we were in the market buying a dog tether at the pet stall, one of our dogs, unbeknown to us, stole a bag of dog treats. We didn’t notice until we were on our way back to the motorhome 🙄.

We had a great few days there a few weeks ago and its just the best site we been too, we stayed just about where you were and a baby frog came to our pitch so we took him back to the pond just behind us hope he is still surviving - the breakfast was also great lovely site thanks for the video- Ian and Sue

We love it there so glad you did too, as veggies we do tend to eat out anywhere once then do like to cook for our selves too.
We also did love the veggie breakfast, and we have visited on a couple of nights that had tribute acts on they were great fun .

Such a great video, Mac and Sarah. Lots of lovely comprehensive and detailed insight.
It was nice to see both of you and Dozer living your best life in the E Midlands for a week. I'm sure we'll get you up to glorious North Yorkshire where we live at some time, to sample its many delights, scenery and variety.
We have had multiple recommendations to visit Eye Kettleby Lakes by other caravanners and we are booked for a 4 night stay with our elderly fur baby Xenna in October on the Northern Close. On the evidence of this video it certainly looks good.
Really appreciate the attention to detail in this video. You've sold it to us. Also it's within our 3 to 4 hour from home maximum drive window.
We'd love to know what was on Dozer's licky mat.

Great video & glad you enjoyed, we love it there & shame you didn’t feel the warmth of the place as we do…. maybe next time 😊 I agree southern is a bit far from the tearoom, we always stay on northern as we have an old doggie too but she can be carried when needed.

Very relaxing and fun video, especially liked you putting Dozer through the dog agility course, what a sweetie he is! The park looked a bit tame to me, I reckon some of your other stays had a bit more character and quirk. Great video and informative for people who have never been there. I actually think we were onsite during your visit I recognised our motorhome on pitch 118 as you did the drive through! The only aspect which I would add are the different street food nights, ie fish & chips Wednesday, including the option to get your own takeaway delivery on a Friday to the bar, they provide plates knives and forks etc for each night theme.

Finally got ourselves some zero gravity loungers to use at our caravan.
To note if you’re ever looking for a quiet no frills site I’d recommended poachers patch in Lincolnshire. Weekdays out of season it’s a lovely quiet site with nice field to walk dozer. We have our caravan sited there. There’s an excellent pub in the village as well. It’s basic but peaceful x

Been there last year, beautiful site and the 8 lakes stunning went to see and touched all of them..facilities superb,restaurant very good..went to melton mowbray to pick up the Best PIE ,visited the Rowland lake too.enjoy..

Good video as always on a great site. One of 2 of our best sites in 32 years caravanning the other being Old Oakes at Glastonbury another 5 star site with superb facilities. Eye Kettleby only about 1.5 hrs from home for us and we visit twice a year. They do also offer take away service on Fridays. Whereby you can order Chinese Indian pizza fish and chips etc from local takeaways and eat in the clubhouse. They provide plates cutlery etc and they wash up after so maybe that could be an option for you being vegetarians on these menus for possible return visit. We always find all staff friendly and welcoming with no issues.

Total caravan newbie here and just found your videos, which are very helpful! 👍🏻 Without realising you had the same, we have just ordered the Swift Alpine 4 but I’m have a panic about the amount of kitchen storage and wondering if the hand basin being in the bedroom wakes either of you up if the other goes to the bathroom in the middle of the night? I’ve seen that Mac likes to cook so wondered if the lack of kitchen storage has been a problem for you? I would really appreciate your advice and experience with this. Also, did you do a towing course when you got your first caravan? Thank you and keep up the great vlogs! 😀🙏🏻
Hi Janet, thanks for watching and leaving us a comment. Oh that's great, an Alpine 4 is, in our opinion a great first caravan as it ticks so many boxes. The hand basin in the bedroom works really well for us, especially when Sarah is getting ready in the morning, we can chat easily because she's not inside a bathroom. The thing that does wake us (we're very light sleepers anyway) is if the person sleeping closest to the outside wall needs to get up in the night, as it involves clambering over the other. But honestly we don't find it a problem. With regards to the kitchen, I'd say yes, the storage is a bit light. However, we also use one of the high level cupboards in the lounge area as extra food storage. In terms of preparing food, it's absolutely fine. The one niggle we have is the under sink cupboard is a bit crap, but we heard of someone buying a pull out rack from IKEA and fitting that, which would sort the issue out.
All in all we absolutely love our van and it's just right for us right now. Really hope that helps.

Hi Leslie, thanks very much! I've been painting for about 3 months, those in the video were my 3rd and 4th.... Good old TH-cam tutorial videos haha. I have a basic Windsor and Newton set which is small and compact. I'm really enjoying the process of learning 😊
What a shame you didn’t drive to the wonderful local farm shop which also has a cafe and a place you can eat with dog outside and the dog friendly beautiful quality pub The Royal Oak, just five mins away. You also missed out on the fab local tribute bands once a month and the Saturday live music in the lakes tea room. And the quiz on a Thursday. On a Friday you can order a takeaway and have it delivered to the tearoom and they will provide all the crockery and cultlery and do the washing up. If you’d have done all that you would have seen the warmth and personality of the wonderful friendly restaurant and bar staff. You also missed out on showing the beautiful dog friendly camping pods and the v special lodges. But a lovely video, showcasing the scenery and always makes us smile seeing Dozer.
Hi there, thanks for watching and leaving us a comment, it's always good to open up a discussion. We did actually visit the farm shop to buy some halloumi kebabs for a BBQ, but we didn't show everything in the video. We try to balance enjoying our holiday with capturing the essence of a place, rather than a fully comprehensive review. So there's no doubt other things we didn't cover. In terms of eating there, we did visit The Lakes a total of 6 times, so plenty of opportunity for hospitality, but again, we can't do everything unfortunately. Luckily, their website shows exactly what's on offer which is great for anyone considering a visit. The site really does have a good offering.

First time seeing your videos, As a review didn't really give much information about the site like the toilet and shower block just said it was nice. As I'm registered disabled would have been nice to see what was available . And how much did you pay for the Pitch you chose,
Also as we own a motorhome you didn't mention about public transport.
And like you said, your not into fishing but would have been nice to actually give the cost to fishing on a daily basis.
As this site obviously caters for people who fish.

Hi thanks for watching. The charges vary, but for our superior extended pitch in June it worked out at £50 per night for us and Dozer.

Hi Mac & Sarah looks like you enjoyed your stay, we thought the south side was better its a bit further away from the main reception/ cafe i bet it can be a bit rowdy after some of the tribute acts and stuff so i prefer that and the facilities are better on the south apparantly as we spoke to a few people who agreed, also pitch sizes are bigger.
Didn'y try the greek taverna but i will do next year when we go back. Have you re booked or are you not bothering?
P.s that game looked like hard work, i prefer scrabble or dominoes lol 😂😂😂😂 anyway take care hope Dozer is ok, bless him. see you out and about soon i hope xx

Hi John, thanks for watching. They say that both vegan and gluten free options are available on request and to ask before ordering, so not sure how extensive the options are. There's nothing on the main menu that says GF
