In this video Canadian Guitarist/producer Dean Wolfe reacts to Ghost, Twenties.
A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I'm Dean Wolfe, a mostly self-taught Canadian guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/performer. I started out as a full time musician on the road at age 17 for two years, but went part-time ever since while holding day careers including as a chef and in spiritual health care while raising a family.
I've recorded hundreds of my own songs- many being used in media and award winning documentaries etc. I've been in several bands including a prog/jazz fusion act nFuze, performing in International Jazz festivals and jazz clubs. I abandoned the prog genre more or less back in the 1990s but have returned to it now with vigour a full 30 years later- so much prog I've ignored and quite frankly didn't have any idea about. My own prog band was rejected by record labels as "too progressive' in the late 80s, so i detoured into grunge, pop and alternative instead (then folk and acoustic fingerstyle guitar and ambient electric as well).

I rate this a 9/10. It's a genius combo, the Latin drumbeat, the brass section, the guitar chugging... It's deliciously innovative. And deliciously evil. 😈 The whole album is great, I also love Call Me Little Sunshine. Great react, Dean! And congrats on 25k!!!🎉

Fun fact. Tobias daughter is one of the girls in the choir. It's about the 1920:s but also refers to the 2020:s. The album Impera is about the rise and fall of empires. Tobias says this happens in cycles over time. That's why both 1920 and 2020 is a part of the song. We're about to make the same mistake again as Germany did but now it's Russia . It could be the start of the fall of the Putin regime or lead to WW3.

I never thought I wanted Ghost to write a metal raggae metal song... until they did. And just how in 2018 they predicted the plague to come, they kinda predicted the current political climate in this one

I have this feeling their next album will be about the upcoming dominion of evil, satanic AI. Just a hunch.

"Watcher in the Sky" is another killer track from this album! Overall I like it much better than the album before.

It's reggaeton. Tobias saw a Brazilian musician on tv and was inspired to do a song in this style.

Eerie similarities between the nineteen twenties and today. With the backdrop of the Spanish flu, and The devastating aftermath of WWI, the rise of authoritarian dictators shaped the coming decades. Perhaps Ghost is warning us that history may repeat itself.
I love dystopian warnings in music. They add a certain gravitas to a song. Pink Floyd’s Animals or The Wall comes to mind. See also Spock’s Beard’s They Know We Know or Their Names Escape Me (which included the names of patrons who crowd funded the X album).

Yes there are way too many similarities. I'm glad ghost is conscious of this too!

I was caught off guard by this one when it came out, but I’ve grown to like it. That riff and beat get stuck in your brain. The whole album is pretty good, and was produced by the same guy that did “Meliora.” The guitar solo in this was done by Fredrik Åkkeson, of Opeth. This wasn’t the usual studio drummer either.

Didn't really like it first time. But now I've come around and really enjoyed it.

The song is about Trump, but the parallels between the 1920s and 2020s are no accident...
