      The bottom of the Exxon Valdez still had crude oil. Minutes prior, the Depth Gauge Guy that said 'Thank god' when the flames engulfed him tells the Deacon that they still have (and I quote) 'I thought you should know... we're down to exactly 4 feet 9 inches of the black stuff'. Now do the math to calculate how much oil they had in a ship that was more than 300 meters long.

    7:46 what was the bad guys' plan if Costner had NOT snatched the kid out of the water? They were still heading toward a three way crash, killing themselves and the kid.
    And I feel the need to write out the ending of this film:
    Three villains on jet-skis race toward a helpless child floating in the water.
    The hero bungee-jumps off a hot air balloon toward the child.
    The hero grabs the child and springs away, as the three villains collide and burst into a massive explosion.

    Mad max on water, what's not to love.

  • @Jamal3.87
    @Jamal3.87 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ok I don’t think Waterworld is a terrible movie but it’s far from good. The critics unfairly lambasted the movie because of the budget and it is considered one of the biggest money losers of all time. They also criticized the plot for being a pale ripoff of Mad Max. Tank Girl, also in 1995, had a Mad Max-type plot. My biggest gripe is the character of the Mariner. I have no problem with the lead in an action movie being an antihero type but Kevin Costner plays him to be absolutely insufferable jerk for the first 90 minutes or so. Particularly during the scenes on his trimaran with him, Helen and Enola. Chopping their hair off, throwing the kid overboard, beating Helen with an oar, not to mention almost allowing Helen to be raped. Enough already! At one point, I questioned who was the villain, Costner or Dennis Hopper. There are obvious parallels between Waterworld and Costner’s next epic, The Postman. Both films take place in a post-apocalyptic world; both characters he plays are nameless wayfarers; women approach him in both films asking him to impregnate them; both have fascist regimes as antagonists (the Smokers and the Holnists); and both films, Kevin Costner plays unlikable heroes (the Mariner is a jerk and the Postman is a joke, wisecracking throughout the film). The production design, the photography and action sequences keep Waterworld from being a complete dud. Those scenes, including the escape from the first atoll and the final action sequence on the oil tanker, are rousing. 👎🏾 ⭐️⭐️ 2/4.

      One of the many things why this film was a failure. It was made in the wrong time, and directed by the wrong guy. It looks way too silly. If they were going for the Mad Max theme, they failed miserably.
