  • Hi there! My name is John and I've struggled with my weight all my life, but after years of failed diet attempts I FINALLY managed to find a way to change my relationship with food and adopt healthy habits! I lost 130 pounds and drastically improved my health, and this video chronicles my lifelong struggles with food addiction and obesity, and how I finally managed to changed my habits and my mindset to live a balanced lifestyle and help improve my quality of life.

Your old you is me. The absolute poo storm I have lived through the last 10 years has blown me up to 330 pounds. My lifestyle and depression allows me to lay around in a truck sleeper for days at a time, never doing more than the minimum.
I am amazed I have made it to 65.

This video was incredibly validating to me as a behavioral addict who also (unrelatedly) has health and weight struggles. It's given me hope that I can tackle both!

This is a very rough subject for me.
I'm 27, last year I came out as Trans Female, and my whole life I've also just been very large. As of last I checked I weight 190kg (Around 400 pounds).
I have tried diets and to regularly exercise but I can never find the motivation to continue and I give into my lazy habits in the end.
It's a mixture of bad thoughts and doing it alone, but I always appreciate when people I highly think of and appreciate - such as you, John, your music has helped me a lot - speak of their experiences if they had any.
    So thank you.

Thank you so much for your comment, I'm so sorry I missed it somehow when you wrote it. I appreciate you mentioning your struggles, and in some ways can definitely relate to not finding motivation and falling back on old habits. Change can be a challenge, and finding motivation or changing our mindset is not easy. Everyone has different experiences in life and different things work for different people. I will say that I want to offer you nothing but encouragement and positivity, and to just keep doing the best you can. Personally I found looking for motivation in seeing how others made changes, and contintually watching their videos as I focused on making my changes really helped. No matter what, I hope you feel loved, valued, and know that it's worth continuing to put forth the effort. I've tried to lose weight since high school, and it took me nearly 20 years to finally get in the right mindset, but it did, despite ups and downs and many different attempts. Thank you so much for your comment, and I'm so honored to hear how much my music has helped you! Thanks so much!

Thanks for sharing. What treadmill do you have? Any thoughts on it?

Thanks, I have an FYC Under Desk Treadmill. It's small and folds up slim for easy storage. I love it because I have a small recording studio, and a regular size treadmill would take up way too much space in the room, and would a hassle to move around if I needed to temporarily take it out of the studio for video shoots. This works perfectly for my space, and I think it's a great option for people who don't have a lot of space but still want a treadmill!
      Here's the one I have: www.amazon.com/FYC-Under-Desk-Treadmill-Installation-Free/dp/B094QKRHB6/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=qbVnz&content-id=amzn1.sym.42cf7511-bb78-4d3d-b046-848117fc115f&pf_rd_p=42cf7511-bb78-4d3d-b046-848117fc115f&pf_rd_r=V3M2EFYG3V0PFKYTJEJX&pd_rd_wg=l3s9D&pd_rd_r=198a32da-c9e8-447c-9f80-e6d19f15de4b&ref_=pd_gw_dealz_cs_t2&th=1

Very inspirational, John. I'm curious, though... You discuss mindful eating in great detail (thanks!), but you kind of gloss over the walking. How much do you walk? How often? Do you always do the "treadmill thing" or do you venture out to the neighborhood, the park, the walking trail or - heaven forfend - the gym! Thanks so much for sharing your "journey." I have the feeling you only gave us a glimpse into your pain and frustration. Congratulations! G

Thanks very much! Yeah, there was a lot to fit into this video, haha. I'm planning on continuing to release videos talking about different subjects, and walking/exercise will be in a future one for sure.
I generally aimed to walk for about an hour a day, 5 or 6 days a week, at the fastest speed that was comfortable for me. When starting out that was about 2.5 mph, but these days I normally walk at about 4 mph. In past weight loss attempts, before we bought our house I would walk around our neighborhood or occasionally a local park walking trail whenever weather permitted, and would walk on our treadmill when the weather wasn't as nice. When we bought our house we moved to a slightly more rural area with no sidewalks, so my wife bought me a slim treadmill for my studio, which is what I've been using ever since. I actually haven't set foot in a gym once, haha. The main reason, aside from cost, was distance and motivation. I prefer to exercise first thing in the morning, and having to get up and make the effort to go to the gym every morning seemed like too much of a hassle. That's just ME, of course, haha. If someone wants to go to the gym then they should by all means do so! But this is just what I found worked well for me. ^_^
