- In our Winter Park store sits a 180 gallon display tank that is an acropora lover's dream! Josh gives us a break down of this reef tank that includes five XR30 Blues, a mobius controlled Vectra L2 return pump, four MP 40 powerheads and more! This low maintenance reef tank is home to many of our aquacultured acroporas and in this tank there is room for them to naturally grow into beautiful chunky pieces!

This tank is without a doubt my favorite tank you guys have at WWC. I recently applied the lightning schedule to my 130G and really enjoy it. I'd love to see a follow up on this tank and what changes you guys have made. And plus Josh is honestly the best!
How is the tank since you changed it?
@@WorldWideCorals it's only been a week so far. Lol. I was using the AB+ program for some time and saw okay growth and color. I've been following you guys for a long time and figure why not try a template that you created that's shown proven results. My tank is about 80% acropora (60% of that larger frags) and 20% zoas. The much longer duration of blue lights definitely make the acros and zoas color really pop. But with the amount of ridiculous color and growth you guy have, I'd love to see if I have experience some of that success. 🤞
Its taking me several years and hundreds of dollars worth of killing coral to understand how important it is to pick a number and stick with it. You guys make it look easy.❤
It's easy to look at one of our displays and not see the work behind it. Just as Josh said, even switching the lighting caused some problems that needed attention, and it worked out for the best in the end. Good advice for anyone don't stress about chasing numbers but stick to a number within acceptable range.
I do practice myself following trends rather than chasing values. When trend keeps going the wrong way (which could be either way ,up or down the scale) then I know it's time to make small adjustments.
I try to stick also to strict scheduled amount of feedings which gives great stability in the system. It is true as stated in the video that bioload and variables are always in constant change. - That's why we as hobbyists test water regularly to change course when the trends suggest so based on test results over period of time.

@@WorldWideCorals I do too but it’s always a mess and I’ve always wanted to run a bare bottom tank…. My scape and tank are already almost the same as this one just slightly smaller and I just love the look.
So far I just do water changes and I’m kind of afraid for when that stops being enough. I have no idea how to use kalk 😂 but I know I’m gonna need to learn

I’m considering a tank of similar dimensions, 20” deep though. It’s good to see some bigger fish in there! I’m wanting a powder blue tang myself and debating about 6 feet and less width vs 5 feet and more width (like this one). The wider tanks seem like it offers more space for natural swimming than just pacing back and forth.
The deeper tanks really do allow for more aquascaping options, hiding spaces and swimming room.

Spot on, beautiful tank also, biggest thing I’ve learned is alk swings of any kind are probably the biggest killer of Acros, I had issues until I set up auto dosing small amounts 24/7. The nutrients aren’t as critical but should be kept under some sort of control

Another awesome tank in wwc. What do u think acros with yellow, rainbow, reds after a month in the tank it starts turning dark green what might be the issue? Parameters are stable
I like the idea of a bare bottom take for easy cleaning, and not creating a litter box using some sort of substrate. I noticed how you used the black star board on the bottom, which is nice for covering the bare glass, and creating an impact resistance. I'm considering setting up a new tank, and I was wondering what would you thought of a setup that used flat foundation rock to "tile" the entire bottom of the tank, and then built an aquascape on top of that? That way the entire bottom of the tank would be covered with rock instead of a substrate. Kind of a bare bottom, but not really. Bare of a substrate, but covered in flat rock. I was thinking of covering the entire bottom with a zoa gardern, or maybe some type of encrusting coral. What do you think of this idea?

I am new to the reef world and I would like to know more name of the corals inside this tank. It would be very helpful since I would know how the corals look in real life in full size colonies. I don’t live in Florida so we don’t have advance and beautiful coral displays in our local fish shop
avoid salinity swings? whats your salinity at? and what do you mean by swings?
what sort of spectrum are you running more blue or white and blue like the ab plus
How do you prevent the acropora from basing into/on top of each other?
How long is that tank in the first shot with the xr15s , 4ft?
What do you do to keep your nutrients down with all that feeding? What’s your NO3 and po4 at?
10:30 - 10 / .05, they go into more detail about their allowable “trend”
The water changes really help too!
Hey so I have life rock and I don’t feed heavy and don’t have too heavy a bio load with skimmer and reef mat. Somehow I keep getting phosphates soaring. Is it possible my rock is leaching phosphates and how long did the tank cycle before putting acros in?
What are you using for saltwater? Is it RODI water at zero TDS? How old is the tank? I think they waited a few months before adding acros to make sure the parameters were stable.
What intensity are these lights at?
