A beautiful heartfelt reaction. Paul McCartney read a story in the newspaper about a young woman who left her family without telling them why or where she was going. Her parents were devastated and deeply concerned for their daughters well being. Best wishes Faith, RNB
Impossible to listen to this song without tearing up. Paul correctly delivers the emotion of a young girl leaving the home of her parents after a long childhood. All of the instrumentation is spot on.
She has her story on here. Melanie Coe-Shes Leaving Home-Beatles-.No real problems with her parents, just a teen in the 60s. Coincidentally she won a competition a few years earlier in 63 on a show called Ready Steady Go and received a prize from Paul McCartney. (which is also on youtube) It was only years later she found out the song was about her.
Greetings from Scotland" Good question Faith *"What did they do to make her leave?"* They lavished money and gifts on her, but all she wanted was their love, so eventually, one morning she left home! This very emotional song was played in my morning assembly at school to highlight the problem of runaway children when I was 13yo back in 1967! But what Inspired McCartney to write "She’s Leaving Home"? It all began when a 17yo pretty blonde schoolgirl named *Melanie Coe* left her home in Stamford Hill, England. This was the headline the day after she left - “A-Level Girl Dumps Car And Vanishes” in the February, 1967, issue of London’s Daily Mail. The report portrayed her as a “the schoolgirl who seemed to have everything,” including her own Austin 1100 car and a “wardrobe full of clothes,” both of which were left behind. “I cannot imagine why she should run away,” her father told reporters. “She has everything here … even her fur coat.” But what she DID NOT have was her parents love. However, she was ok and safe. She actually heard the song when it released, but had no idea it was written about HER! Only later did she learn the origin of the song. Ironically Melanie had actually met and chatted to The Beatles when she was 14yo! ANYWAY! A great song and another great reaction Faith!
The only thing is that fun is the one thing money can buy. Understanding, compassion, love, are not. But both sides are hurting. So are both at fault? Why do we automatically take her side? Fun? I think it should be deeper. As a huge Beatles lover it is the only lyric I do not get after almost 60 years of loving them.

I'm just speechless
Thanks 👍 for watching
I first heard this song 40 years ago, and the older I get, the harder it hits. I love how John's backing vocals are the voice of the parents.
The lyrics are so clear and piercing
Thanks 👍 for watching
Emotional song

Controlling Parents almost never realise they are!
Her life was too restricted and confined. She needed to get away and LIVE!

Are the Beatles good or what? WOW
She left because she needed freedom and her overbearing parents were isolating her
