Weird story: Paul McCartney wrote this song after reading a newspaper article about a teen-aged girl who ran away from home (which was happening a LOT in the States at that time, and I assume in Britain, too). It turned out later that he had actually met the girl once when he was judging a contest on a TV show.

Ambrose Cynthia your love for the Beatles so quickly is wonderful to see. At 5:08 in your video the song says "fun is the one thing that money can't buy". That is the reason she left home......for fun and freedom. Their older songs are very different from their later songs. They are all good, but in a few years time their artistry was very different.

Songs like this are not just a song but a theater , movie and reality at the same time. Just as the later Charlie Chaplin movies... he was very funny but presenting deep issues in society so you end up wondering weather to laugh or cry. Two more very emotional songs that you should check out Cynthia are by the Bee Gees: "I Started A Joke" and "1941 New York Mining Disaster". The best versions come from the YT video entitled "The Bee Gees One Night Only" and I hope they make you cry! You will certainly understand very swiftly why the voice of Robin Gibb is so terribly missed. He sang like an Angel.

Also "Words" which my wonderful step dad, 48 years ago, sang to my mum to try and persuade her to marry him.. He had a wonderful singing voice and natural perfect pitch. Worked, obviously. Also "Run to Me" "First of May" and last but not least, "Morning of my Life".

@@michaelmelling9333 That's not the message of the song. They feel sorry for themselves. They gave her "everything". (Isn't that what parents do?) "Why did she do this to ME" Not once do they worry what might happen to HER. Paul's lyrics are very ironic. We're not supposed to feel SORRY for the parents. A young girl is on her own. She's the one to worry about!

So I was just looking through your reactions and did I miss something? You haven't reacted to The Beatles Let It Be? I wonder if Rose would recognize it?
I also find it interesting that reactors react to practically every Beatles song except for the one that put Beatlemania over the top. She Loves You definitely started it but I Want to Hold Your Hand is the song that blew the doors off and exploded in the U.S. I Want To Hold Your Hand knocked She Loves You off the top of the charts in the UK and it was the number one song of the year in the US (1964).
Plus, both McCartney and Lennon agree they both wrote the song together and it's even sung without a lead singer (both of them sing it together). People want to pass it off as childish but it was much more than that. In my opinion, the song is the quintessential Beatles song in both structure and melody.
