    I've got the exact scooter, probably a year newer then yours. I have a 2021 Buddy KICK in Turquoise. Bought it as my every other day driver to my Dialysis session. I had a few Honda Sprees that I ran around on as a kid, but this is really my first bike too. Got it for Fuel Injection and it's shortest ride height in the industry. I probably should've got something that went a tad faster, but I haven't regretted a thing. Have to get a new rear tire already I ride it so hard and so often.

    My 2009 Yamaha Vino 50cc also had 90/90-10 tires. I found out that I could change to more common 3.5x10 tires. 3.5x10 tires (imperial) are the same as 90/100-10 tires (metric). They're only 9mm taller all around, but still the same width (within 1mm). The Michelin S83 3.5x10 tires are nice, but you may opt for others. It certainly made the ride more comfortable. Add 1.5 ounces of counteract balance beads inside the tire, and it really smoothed things out. It removed vibration at the handlebar that I didn't know existed. :)

    Let me start by saying thank you for your great videos and because of you I bought my first scooter 🛵. The first scooter that I looked at was a used 2017 buddy kick 125cc but also let me say that I own a beautiful 2004 Harley-Davidson Road King that I love dearly. The reason I decided to buy a scooter was because gas prices are high I want to save money. So I decided to go to a Vespa dealer and found a 2015 Vespa primavera with super low miles at a good price and decided to buy it. Once again I wanna thank you for all the great videos and information.

      I love that you found a great deal to boot! The Road King is an awesome bike, and you’ll find tons of people that ride scoots also have a mc in their garage! I met someone through these channel comments in real life last weekend with a similar story! Coffee + conversations about scooters = 💥 🤯

    Fantastic videos, thank you for being so informative! I lived 28yrs in Atascocita and now live in Indianapolis, so I was wondering about "ride-ability"--if you can get around the greater Houston area, I know darned good and well it'll be just fine here!
    QUESTION: I know this sounds stupid, but what happens to the storage cubby in the rain?
    Is there a drain in there somewhere or do you have to try to get water out of it?

    • @ScooterNewbie
      @ScooterNewbie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha! Yes! I've gone from League City to Porter through all those potholes in Houston avoiding the interstates, so with some planning, you CAN ride anywhere. 🙂
      Not stupid at all! Rain doesn't get in there. I just went outside to double check, though. The Kick has a thick piece of fabric at the bottom of the bucket, but if you pull that out there are a couple of small holes. The Vespa's 'bucket' comes out super easy, but there aren't holes. I imagine IF you got water in it, you'd just have to dump it. Both have been left in parking lots with pouring rain, and nothing inside has been wet, though. Thankfully!

    Great bike. Perfect name for the color too. I agree, the helmet security pegs are a game changer. They’re great because you can have items under your seat and still secure your helmet(s).
    You might be able to adjust your rear shocks for a smoother ride, but yes small wheels will do that. On the plus side they’re better on the turns and twisters than on the straightaways.

    • @davek9384
      @davek9384 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ScooterNewbie The Vespa GTS 300 is the top of the list at the moment. I am really a fan of the brand and of course the "retro" look. Probably in the "don't hit me" orange color.I also like their Primavera 150 but am really uncertain as to the power adequacy and it's on their small frame. . If not prohibitively expensive the BMW would be there too. The Piaggo BV 350 is a close second. Other contenders - Honda ADV, Suzuki Burgman (though also pricey). Probably some others I can't think of presently One issue here in NM is the low number of dealers. Our low population (the state has around the same number of folks as Houston TX) limits availability for major goods. Best example? Apple has one store in NM. Next closest is El Paso......
      BTW have you seen the animated film Luca yet? Vespa is featured.

    • @ScooterNewbie
      @ScooterNewbie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did see Luca! I wasn’t interested til I saw the scooter focus. 😂
      I’m torn, too!! I can’t imagine the scooter situation being worse! I have a Yamaha dealer within 5 miles, but they never seem to have one for me to even sit on (even though that style isn’t really what I want). We drove to Austin to try out the GTS, and we are talking about driving to San Antonio or Austin over the next few weeks to try to the Piaggio BV350 (if they have one avail a weekend that I’m avail). I need to pick up an accessory at a Kymco/Wolf/Lance dealer about 2 hours north of Houston this weekend, so I hope to check out the big Kymco while there. We shall see!

  • @bchandra9
    @bchandra9 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks for the thoughtful video! I am currently looking at Buddy scooters, and was wondering why you ended up going with the Kick rather than the 170i, since at the start of the video you said you considered that as well, given that the 170i also has EFI and that they're almost the same price? Especially since your "don't make this mistake when you're buying" video says to go with a higher displacement engine, do you think you would have been happier/better off with the 170i? I just discovered your site, by the way, I love your advice and videos, now I have a bunch saved to watch. Also, great helpful spreadsheet.

    • @ScooterNewbie

      I have no idea why TH-cam didn't notify me of this comment, but I do hope you got a Buddy of some kind! The dealer essentially talked me out of the 170i, and I'm glad he did. The way he described it was spot on, "It's like they put fuel injection on their 'old' scooter." The Buddy 170i is still a great scooter, but I've been so happy with my Kick!

      I know this is six months old, but I like watching the videos and reading the comments. I know it's said there is no replacement for displacement, meaning more cc is better for speed. Great review on Marisa. I believe your feedback on your scooter will help those looking for a new scooter or their first scooter. I do wish all scooter makers would make their helmet storage to fit a full face helmet. If I remember right, I believe you can store a full size helmet in the much bigger scooters like the 300cc and higher scooters but I could be wrong. I've agree with you about the small tires on the scooter. I've heard you can really feel the bumps on the road if the road conditions are not good. I'm looking into the Piaggio Liberty 150 S and that scooter has 16 inch tire in the front and 14 inch tire in the back. Plus, I heard that bigger tires will last much longer and also how much riding you do. Overall, it looks like you've enjoyed riding around on Marisa for the past two years and now you're a bit more knowledgeable and it looks like you bought yourself another scooter and I can't wait to see that video of your new scooter. So what are you planning to do with Marisa? Keep Her or Sale Her? Thanks again for a great video. Watching your videos and other scooter videos get me so hyped to buy my first scooter. As a fellow Texan, I'm waiting for this summer heat to go away so I can take me a Motorcycle Course and hopefully have enough money saved to purchase my first scooter in a few months. I'll be on the lookout for your next video.

      I ride the Piaggio Liberty S150! I absolutely love it 🛵 I can ride 60mph and its so smooth. My boyfriend takes it for a stroll every once in a while and he loves it too. I'm 31, and 5.4 tall. I have to sit at the end of the seat so my feet touch the ground on stops Nd red lights. I can have 1 foot flat but the second is just my tip toe. But once I start going I position myself further back on the seat, it give me better posture. So it's a bit on the taller side and I can't fit my full face helmet in the under the seat storage, those are the only down sides so far. I've only been riding for 4-5 months, but I started commuting to work since summer started. Its about 30-40 miles daily, i can go a full week without needing to refill my gas tank 💯 (unless the babe decides to go on a cruise lol)

      @@esparza_countylinedancer1342 I’m glad you love your Liberty S 150. What color did you get? I’m looking to get the White color one. I’m so ready for my scooter but I need to take a motorcycle course and still save for my scooter. I went to a local dealership in San Antonio and I was able to see a Liberty and get on it. It felt nice and I was able to put my toes on the ground. I’m 5’6 so it felt like a good height for me. That's a really nice looking scooter, I like the colour too.
    I think everyone that is going to ride in rain should get a scooter with at least front abs.
    I had a drunk driver pull out on me when I was on my vespa primavera, it's a 2014, so no abs and 11 inch wheels.
    It was dark and raining, I was thinking, don't brake hard, but I still came off.

I'm an extreme shorty (5'1" And most of it torso) so this was one of the few I thought I could manage... But the commute to work is 23 miles... LOTS OF HILLS, with pretty long stretches of 55-45mph roads. Do they even make anything that can do that AND would suit my tiny legs?

    • @ScooterNewbie
      @ScooterNewbie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d go with a Kick if height is holding you back. I’m currently doing research from the shorter rider perspective, and the Kick is a clear front runner for me so far. I’d like to ride a Lance Cali/Havana 200 before I call this battle of the scooters to get up to a 170cc for a little extra oomph.
      It makes me nervous to not be able to go the “going” speed, but the Kick can hold 60 for a bit on flats which makes me feel like a solid 55 if it isn’t overloaded would be ok.

      At 270 lbs, you should get the most powerful scooter you can afford for a daily driver. You’ll safer being able to keep up with traffic. I own 2 Honda CT70s, but I would never use them for daily riding. I’m 175 lbs and ride a Vespa GTV300. It’s adequate on the freeway, but doesn’t feel happy at 70+mph indicated. Look at very clean low mileage used scooters as you’ll get more for your money. I found a new out of the box Suzuki Burgman 650 executive at a dealer in Houston. They quit importing them in 2018 for some reason and I got mine for $2K+ under MSRP last year. Good luck!

      I woke up to a notification with the official TH-cam icon that said TH-cam Unsubscribed me….” I was so confused! Well, as were you I guess! I can’t unsub anyone as far as I know, but I have heard rumblings of crazy things going on. :(
      Thanks for sticking around to chat scooters… especially if they aren’t making it easy on you!

      @@ScooterNewbie There are a lot of channels that just talk mechanics or mods for their other bikes like a Ruckus. A lot of these wanna show off and do wheelies etc. I more enjoy level headed adults like yourself who talk about practical scooter use. There aren't too many channels like yours around so I try not to lose them.

    Understanding the pros and cons go a long way in making a choice. For me, I got what I could afford knowing the tires were smaller than I wanted, knowing it didn't have good storage space, knowing it was Chinese and I'd have to replace some parts probably more often than another brand. That worked for Me. I know people (MotoRosie, RamenOnWheels etc) that sold the scooter because they were not willing to deal with learning how to properly repair the scooter. Many folks just want someone else to be the mechanic. I get that especially if you are a lady. It's not about general maintenance but can you take it apart and put it back together. People have to consider that because sometimes, you may need to. Guys.. well we like a challenge.. we say gimme that drill so I can drill out that cylinder and put a big bore kit in this beast.

    I wanted to see if you had made another video to comment on something no one talks about. Speed. Perhaps you can do a video on it. You see I just today after a month crested 40 mph. 25 is Fast on a scooter with low center of "gravity" and 30 to 35 even worse but it seems 40 and above takes on a whole new dimension. Everything Blurs and it's hard to keep up visually and mentally. Our bodies were not designed for such input. This is only overcome with practice. That's why people fear going fast on a scooter as I've seen some of your other commenters make. It's Really Odd that it's not a smooth transition from one speed to another but it seems to lurch in your mind to something that feels totally different say at 40 from 30. New riders need to be prepared for that and slowly learn to adjust accordingly. In a car, it Is a smooth transition.. I wonder why a bike would be different.

      Great idea! 💡 I mentioned this to my husband at one point, and he didn’t know what I was talking about. I really, really like riding at 25-35 mph on the Buddy Kick because it isn’t as pleasant as I approach 45. However, I have different sweet spots on the Kymco Like. I think it is scooter specific, too.
      I’ll see if I can find a way to demonstrate it with my amateur video skills. 🍀

    Some of your negatives are general, typical characteristics of ALL scooters, such as small "pet carrier" under the seat that is not big enough for a full face helmet. The underseat pegs are for hanging your helmet by the D-ring locked under your seat; or get a top case. As for the handlebar mouted turn signals you don't like: "Genuine Scooters has turn signals mounted on the handlebars because the body-mounted signals on the original scooters are too close together and don't meet DOT specs. Genuine had to add or have PGO add the handlebar-mounted signals before it could be legally imported. " This was NOT a Genuine design choice; it was a US DOT requirement, and I also believe that the higher-mounted signals are more visible to those vehicles that all sit much higher. I also like the separate driving lights. Finally, in your next video, you stated that this scooter is too slow for 50-60mph highway speeds. If that was a main requirement for you--you should have researched 150cc scooters to start. You should also look at scooters with larger wheels--maybe a Maxi-scooter, but the cost will be much higher.

    Everyone whom has ever ridden anything two wheels for more than a minute has "that's another story" bike in the garage or the past.

    The Kick is admittedly a fast and quite reliable scooter. But to my eye it is plain...plain ugly...not any degree of cool. ...lol.
