Can you imagine, while youre being quiet, listening, all freaked out... then someone juat leaps out in front of you, arms boogy-man style, screaming "BOO!"
I would do it, 100%! From far enough back not to get swung at, lol ❤

I don't mind empty old buildings like that. They may not have much to look at, but they always have an atmosphere that you can just feel. You almost just sense all the poor souls that passed though a place like that.
Speaking of souls, did anyone else hear like a hissing or shushing sound when Matt was walking through that narrow corridor (about half way through)?

Loved this explore, the drawings on the walls looked like they'd been painted but the same person because the men all looked very similar and the guns were the same too. The main room was a complete surprise (apart from seeing it on Patreon) But still didn't expect it in the building. Proud of you Matt for doing these all alone xx

As you probably know Matt I live opposite the old Middlewood Hospital in Sheffield. I have done a bit of research on it and one of the things you could be admitted for was "masturbation"! No wonder the government opted for care in the community.....there's just not enough places for all those who enjoy a good bit of self pleasure. 😊

Wow,Matt, thank you for the Explore of the Mental Institution. A few years ago, I worked in a state hospital, which was called an asylum way back in the day I worked with the mentally ill and dangerous lockdown Ward.
To say the least, it was a very interesting place to work.
There were many different sections of the hospital I worked at.
The mentally ill, the mentally ill and geriatric, a section for alcoholics and drug addiction, etc...
The box you referred to as going over the head, actually we used similar boxes to go over our patients' feet, for those who had foot or leg issues. This kept the blankets off of them, which caused the patient pain. The blanket would go over the box.
They are used in nursing home and adult care to this day, only not so barbaric looking lol.

I absolutely loved this explore Matt, I’ve worked in an asylum as a nurse here in Australia in the 1980s and it was very haunted but sad. A lot of women had been in the asylum since the age of 16 years old so they were quite institutionalised. You just cracked me up when you mentioned peep show though, that was so funny. Much love from Australia

I used to work in an mental hospital in Salem Oregon back in the early 90’s and one thing I found out was that there were tunnels underground to move patients from one building to the next, especially deceased patients so other patients wouldn’t see them being taken out. There are also tunnels under our capitol building up to the insane asylum on the hill. The insane asylum was different than where I worked. Where I worked was for the developmentally disabled, whereas the other place was for the insane.

Makes me a bit sad because my son would have ended up somewhere like this if he had been born yrs ago, thank god times have changed and people with special needs are getting the right help instead of being locked away in asylums, I can totally understand how someone with a mental health condition would have gone a million times worse locked away in somewhere like this. 😢

Matt I lived in a block of flats I was on the 7th floor in shuttleworth House Lincoln and someone fell straight past my window 🪟 from the 15th floor to their deaths and I saw them while I was sitting in my living room 😢 I thought it was ATV but knew in my heart it was not 🚫 looked out the window and right at the bottom near the doors that you would come inside to get the 🛗 they had cracked the pavement and there was blood up the walls 🧱 it was horrible apparently the reason he did this is because he went to visit his daughter she would not see him and they had an argument and that's when he jumped out the window or he was pushed I will never forget.

Just before the tunnel “Ricordi?” was on the wall with an arrow pointing down the tunnel. That translates to “Memories” in English. Could have something to do with the morgue being at the end of the tunnel which you couldn’t get to.

These asylums were originally built to house displaced war veterans after long and violent wars. It’s why their architecture is so beautiful and ornate. They were mainly soldiers who lost or couldn’t find family and were injured or suffered from PTSD. They were erected in America to house displaced civil war soldiers. They were beautiful back then but became pretty dark over the decades to follow.

I'm commenting a lot on this vid. But! The exam table at 32:30 looks to be broken on the bottom. At 32:28 you can actually see the cross boards with their screws poking out that have fallen away from the rest of the frame. And at 32:32 you can see the frame at the foot of the bed broken as well. I'm guessing someone tried to flop onto it, and they were just too heavy. The fabric just held it into a scoop shape it looks like to me.

I could imagine someone (they're not completely cuckoo yet but have lucid moments...this is one....) who's going to be going here shortly telling a friend that they're going away for a while and they're going to be going to stay at "Villa ????". Their friend doesn't know that it's actually this place (an asylum) and comments that they'd heard of someone going there (to "Villa ?????") once and loving it so much that they ended up staying there!! 😂🤣😂

With the horse thing , a lot of asylums, sanitariums, and poor farms used to maintain a lot of area around the property and had gardens, fields, and livestock that staff and healthier patients/inmates would tend to so that they could support themselves without having to leave the property. Not sure if that's the case for this one, but I know a lot in the USA did similar things.

Great video! Feel so sorry for all those people! The torture and experimentation that they all went through!
The machine with the knobs and the curved beds were used for shock treatments. Hate referring to them as treatments. It wasn’t. It was to subdue the anxious or violent ones. Horrid and barbaric.
The head cover on the cot was strictly for control and fear torture. Medical experiments that test peoples minds and limits....😞😞

Alright Matt, I don't know if you pumped in sound at the end (51:25) but there's a lot of noises that are quite freaky, and I'd like to think you wouldn't add sound effects like that, but it sounds so strange, and scary, in that hallway. I don't know if you can hear it, but if you get a good set of headphones and a good sound card, it's there.
