I'm happy that you commented on the work the women were putting into the song, Rogue Rxyce. You reenforce my gratitude for growing up during that era. I happened across your reaction video while watching The Friends Of Distinction's "Love Or Let Me Be Lonely". My favorite song of theirs.
Fifty years later, this is still my favorite "go to" summer tune. Second is, Hot fun in the Summertime, by Sly and the Family Stone. Amidst the strife of the late 60's, this song provided such joy, with carefree memories of BBQ's, picnics, riding bikes, playing and staying outside until the sun went down-which in Alaska, wasn't(isn't)until midnight, or later. Thanks for sharing😊
I saw them at a fair in 1968. You wouldn't believe how awful the bunch of us sounded trying to sing the "I can dig it, he can dig, it she can dig it, they can dig it". I'm still laughing...we were some crazy teens.
I loved this song so much as a 10 year old, when it was released in 1969. But I love your reaction to this song even better. So groove on and keep the peace.
I first remember hearing this briefly on the great Keenan Wayan's movie I'm Gonna Git You Sucka. Issac Hayes is a charater and singing it out of time and key....it's great! I just recently looked up the full song after hearing it on Pandora where I work. That skat part is so great, and this Ed Sullivan version is legendary!!! Thank you for your reaction! The rest of the world needs to hear this now...
Yes, I forgot about "Going In Circles". It was like with Nu Schooz (I Can't Wait) they had other Songs like "Point Of No Return" and "Should I Say Yes" but "I Can't Wait" was their biggest.
This song is so descriptive and clearly gives you a picture of beauty! And not to mention the singers!!! Absolutely gorgeous!! I would have loved to see them sing in person!!!
I can dig it and I see that you can dig it, too! Far out and solid! Great to see how this song’s vibe got you right from the start. One year earlier (1968), Hugh Masekela performed this song. Friends of Distinction took it to another level!
This song was originally an instrumental by Hugh Masakela, who was married to Miriam Makeba who sang Pato Pato, which you reacted to. Two giants of African music.
I just watched the Summer of Soul the Harlem Woodstock of 1969. I was impressed. Hugh Masakela and this song was featured. A lot of other great acts too including Stevie Wonder on DRUMS! ts hard to believe it was kept underwraps for 52 years. Such a outright shame.

This song was released in 1969. I can't say I remember this performance, but I certainly remember listening to this song on the radio, and watching the Ed Sullivan show as a kid. A great song and thanks for the trip down memory lane. 🥰
You're so right about that! There was so much great music, I can barely fathom the scope and breadth. And The Friends of Distinction really did have an amazing gift of creating a new sound.
I really love that you felt it and enjoyed it as much as you did! Does my heart good knowing that some of the younger generations are becomming more familar with the greatness and talents of that era! 60's & 70's produced the best music and had the most raw talent EVER.
I love this song!!! I can hear it over, over and over again. The ladies are so beautiful!!! I remember this song when I was a kid. Im 58 years old and it brings a smile to my face and just happiness!!!❤😊
This style was called "Bubble-pop", and the Friends and the Fifth Dimension were the rulers! Classic music, great orchestration, especially with the horn section. They might not admit it, but Earth Wind and Fire expanded on these artists. I agree with the comment that "Love or Let Me be Lonely" was the best song by the friends.
Great tune, I've loved it forever. Definitely a vibe, especially a spring/summer vibe - I can dig it. I was so fortunate to grow up during this time and getting to see all these great performances on Ed Sullivan and any one of the many music/variety shows back then.
This reminds me of summer 1969 before 5th grade. I spent that whole summer at the public pool and this song, Crystal Blue Persuasion, Lay Lady Lay and Mercy Mercy Me was constantly playing on the jukebox in the snack bar. There were sailors walking by and up to the fence, talking to girls that were tanning on the deck. Loved it!!!
The Friends Of Distinction had another big hit with: Love Or Let Me Be Lonely; as mentioned by other TH-camrs. I like their high-pitch harmony. They did two of my all-time-top-ten rock 'n roll songs: Grazing In The Grass and Love Or Let Me Be Lonely. These songs are hard to sing along with.

Also they were one of the "Last" Groups to do Ed Sullivan that debuted on June 30th 1948 in New York on CBS then in 1957 it was Renamed The Ed Sullivan Show. If you did Ed Sullivan you didn't have a "life". You rehearsed Monday to Saturday, then did The Dress Rehearsal on Saturday and did the "Live" Performance on Sunday. This is definitely a favourite song of mine. It depicts happiness, good vibes, energy and is so powerful that it stands the test of time. Such a wonderful song that you simply cannot get enough of...real classic of the late 60's.
Love this song & have since I first heard it in my childhood. This IS such a summery, happy, energetic song. You should listen to this song BEFORE you go outside - & JUST listen TO THE BIRDS, children etc. when you are outside. This song is about enjoying THE NATURAL environment. It DOESN'T need to have "extras". It is the inside, man-made environment that needs the "extras." Try to enjoy the world around you when you are outside. Current generations are FAR TOO LOCKED IN THEIR BUBBLES & not participating or even "experiencing" what is RIGHT around them - only what is on the other side of the world on the internet. EXPERIENCE - YOUR - WORLD - a little bit!
This song has been stuck in my head for 40 years, and can remain stuck for another 40!
We need more happy songs like this.
