One of my favorite details in Super Mario Party Jamboree is that on the Goomba Bay board you can stomp on Golden Goombas to get coins, but if you're playing as Bowser or one of Bowser's minions they just give you the coins instead

Someone may have beaten me to the punch here but the reason Red Dead Revolver is the way that it is, is because it's technically a Capcom game that they dropped at the last minute, and it got sold to Rockstar for them to release (they already had a partnership where Capcom localized their games in Japan). You can see proof of this via advertisements in various Capcom PS2 game manuals of the time, namely Clock Tower 3.
I respect Scott for basing his opinion of Sonic Adventure off of playing the Dreamcast original. While it still has stuff that hasn’t aged the best, most other TH-camr’s opinions of it are based off the bad DX port for GameCube and it’s even worse subsequent ports.
I honestly really like sonic adventure (Dreamcast). I wish sega would remake it already, but judging by leaks and rumours, it looks like they are going with heroes unfortunately.
@ yeah I’m not big on Heroes. Though my biggest issue with it is ultimately how weird it feels to control, so maybe a remake could fix that issue. With that said, I definitely want definitive editions of the Adventure games above that (also Unleashed, man I NEED an Unleashed 4K remaster)
@@Water90435 Heroes got stuck on xbox original, old pcs and ps2 so it's not like that game is very accessible currently. I have played Sonic DX on my pc and with SADX mod manager it runs very nicely and less jank compared to original DX. I'm currently running through Adventure 2 with sound mod as the audio used to pierce my ears when starting up that game
The DX port for GameCube wasn't bad, it was perfectly functional (even retaining some functionality later ports didn't get, like Chao Garden support through the GBA Sonic games and the GBA-to-GC link cable), it just had a few downgrades from the original primarily due to elements that were coded specifically for the Dreamcast system, mostly on the visuals front. A lot of the flak the DX port got in terms of critical reception was because the two version of Sonic Adventure were released in the worst time-frame for a mascot platform character of the 1990s to be released in. The original Dreamcast version came out one month after Half-Life and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (and three months after Metal Gear Solid 1), and in the interim time between the 1998 Dreamcast version and the 2003 DX version, we got The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Thief: The Dark Project, Thief 2: The Metal Age, System Shock 2, Deus Ex, Baulder's Gate (including multiple expansions, spin-offs, and a sequel), Halo: Combat Evolved, Final Fantasy VIII, IX, and X, Final Fantasy Tactics, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Grand Theft Auto III, Metroid Prime, Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies, Call of Duty, and Medal of Honor (which got multiple sequels even within that time frame). All of these games with their more mature and expansive approach to storytelling (ha-ha in regards to Wind Waker, though its story was very mature about letting go of the past) fundamentally altered the gaming landscape and changed the general cultural expectations for what a video game should have/be. It made Sonic and his first proper 3D adventure with its Saturday-morning cartoon level plot/dialogue and first-gen 3D SEGA graphics look amateurish by comparison.
I went from playing Mario and Luigi Superstar saga to Frogger for PS1, and now I’m playing that Epic Mickey Remake. This is why I hate when people ask what games I play, how am I supposed to answer that, “yeah I play Frogger for PS1,”.
Atari 50 was a great release. Digital Eclipse does an amazing job making their compilations feel like interactive documentaries or museums. Atari 2600 games never really piqued my interest, but all the history, interviews, and extras made the game well worth the money.
I played Red Dead Revolver's 4 player split-screen multiplayer on the PS2 with my brother and cousins back in the day and it was a lot of fun but I don't remember any of us ever going through the single player stuff lol.
Man i feel the same about It Takes Two. That game is MAGICAL. Every next level/world i would be like "this is amazing there's no way they outdo this level" and then they DO, every single time. Every world is amazing with an insane level of detail

Im not sure how well it actually sold, but at least from what i could tell, its a damn shame Mafia Definitive Edition flew under the radar for most people. Its such a high quality remake on all fronts.
1:04:00 God It Takes Two is one of my favorite games of all time. It is so fun and some of the story elements (the elephant) genuinely made me uneasy in the best way possible. I am so hopeful for their next game, Split Fiction, and I am looking forward to any more co-op game they may have in the future.

@ ive been using motion since i started, however my friend who uses motion now started by just using motion for an entire splatfest and only using charger. she did awful but god did she learn. i did a similar thing when i picked up my wife, tenta brella. basically just start using it in a low stakes environment its not too too hard to learn and itll change your life
Would love one of those digital eclipse compilations for Taito. Maybe the best run of arcade games next to Namco, and a super interesting history. Also, lots of banger NES and SNES games that never got released in the west.
If you want an actual chill-out game instead of A Little to the Left, I recommend A Short Hike! It’s a great open-world game, and one of the most delightful and therapeutic experiences of my life.
My friends and I messed with the local multiplayer for Nintendo World Championships and we were surprised that it was actually a slightly brain-off goofy time. The amount of jank NES games have and difficulty to control at times makes it really funny when someone is getting genuinely tilted because of some NES bs. I agree having some unique challenges would make it better but as a slightly competitive and goofy couch game, it's a pretty nice time especially when it's making us genuinely learn mechanics and tricks in games we'd have no other reason to learn.
I recently finished pillars of eternity, which is a.. crpg DUH DUH DUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHH but it was a great time. A lot of reading and really fun real-time combat. I'm playing the second sporadically now.

Kirbys Return to Dreamland Deluxe is the remaster we never wanted, but didn't know we needed. It cements Magolor as one of the greatest videogame antagonists of all time and has some of the best multiplayer the Switch has to offer. Easily one of my favorite games of all time. EDIT: I think I've permanently ruined my credibility. This is gonna be so fun if I start my own channel.
I really like Echoes of Wisdom, I didn’t think I would cause I’m not much of a Zelda fan usually, but this game is just super cool. But yeah the echoes menu definitely has the totk problem of a long line of items Endless ocean luminous feels like you could just play Subnautica and it would scratch the same diving itch if you have an itch to play a game about diving I recommend playing Sonic Adventure 2 as someone who no longer really likes sonic other than mania, and I didn’t grow up with it or anything and I got hooked. It doesn’t have a hub world or anything, and the chao garden is so addicting. Especially listening to what you don’t and don’t like about adventure 1, I think 99% of those problems are fixed in Adventure 2
I’ve been playing lot of Mario Party on Switch, my kids love the mini games and even Kirby Return to Dreamland is a good multiplayer co-op. Also Sonic Adventure is a good game, but I hate the slowdowns and side missions, it’s like RPG rather than an action game!
Okay well if this is a roundtable discussion Ive actually been getting back into gaming lately since I graduated last year! I'm gonna write a lot u can read if u want to hear more yapping about games. I finally started Hollow Knight after my friends harassed me for years about it. Im about 20 hours in and aim totally in love with the atmosphere. I don't have any experience with metroidvanias but Im loving the combat and exploration so far. The story is still way over my head though, but maybe it'll click? I also got In Stars and Time for myself as a grad present, an indie RPG about time looping with great writing and one of the most likable parties ever in an RPG. I couldn't get the limited release physical copy for the switch so that was devastating. I been playing Chrono Trigger too on Delta emulator bc I'm cultured and sexy. Its definitely dated but that adds to the charm since it's about time travel. Comparing it to ISAT is interesting given their shared subject matter and total opposite approaches to storytelling and combat. Classic RPGs are typically simple stories with easily understood characters. Its not that there's no depth or themeing, but its rarely the focus. Exploring the world and mastering the combat with easy but timed decisions is most of the meat. That said, the coolest trick Chrono Trigger pulled so far was story related. Early on, the game had me wait real world 10-30 seconds for a character to buy something from the store and stopping me if I tried to walk away or talk to her (which I tried). Then later during a trial, the judge recalled that I was "rushing" my friend instead of letting her take her time shopping which was evidence of suspicious character. I always love when games can make a connection to me the player and my actions rather than the character on screen. Chrono Trigger is fittingly ahead of its time in that way. Modern RPGs like In Stars and Time LOVE calling back to previous actions of the player. But it doubles down on quality of life gameplay changes and character writing. It tries to provide a charming and smart RPG experience then stay out of the way. This contrasts Chrono Trigger which is willing to inconvenience the player on purpose for the sake of a more immersive experience. The difference in combat is similar. ISAT battles are quick and overall doesn't take itself too seriously. The advantage triangle is literally rock paper scissors. The entire world lives on deadass rock paper scissors magic-- its hilarious! Theres strategy and combos and unique mechanics and turn passing, but its real strength is in storytelling. Like Undertale, ISAT knows how to alter the battles for funny or emotional story moments that form a connection to the player. Sometimes its a weirdo one off enemy, or they'll alter a character portrait to a permanent frown. ISAT also uses the inherent monotony of the RPG genre to aid its story about repeating the same final day of an RPG over and over and over again similarly to Hades. I tend to prefer modern stuff like ISAT or Omori, but I respect the classics too! Other than that, Ive been connecting with my inner child with some good ol fashion pirating bad games for nostalgia sake! I played the Yugioh 5Ds World Championship 2009-2011 series for the DS. The writing sucks and the lore is so complicated and stupid it makes Kingdom Hearts look like Garfield and Friends. and lemme just say I got WAAAAAAAY too into it. Like. I was drawing fanart and making headcanons for my custom character, I had favorite random NPCs, I built a fun Halloween zombie deck from scratch and fell in love with it (it was also apparently pretty close to a deck that was pretty meta at the time for real life yugioh in 2011? So that made me feel smart) I've had a lifelong hyperfixation with this specific era of yugioh (if u cant tell i have adhd) and this was just a good time. The soundtrack FUCKS. I remember jamming to the ost off an edible and sending a bunch of tracks to my best friend unprompted and he was gettin annoyed 💀. But what's really cool is I found a super niche discord community of people who still play these games and hooked up online multiplayer with their own server you can connect to on an emulator. Its a small community but they were super knowledgeable and kind. There was this one guy who could break down deckbuilding to a science, there was a programmer girl who could put in whatever custom mods we could think of, it was so great. Shoutouts to them! Then earlier today I downloaded a rom of the Legendary Starfy for the DS after I randomly remembered it exists. It was one of my favorite games when I was 8. I remember asking my parents for it for my birthday, and they hid it from me when I was opening presents so they could give it to me last. Good memories. Anyways the game itself is just worse Kirby but every level is a water level. I blew through the first world in 10 minutes and it was nostalgic buuuuuuut this is a game for babies sorry inner child lol. Playing Starfy in 2025 is like finding a childhood stuffed animal while helping your parents move and being like ooh I remember liking this! before putting it away in a box forever. I just had to look at myself and be like ok time to go be an adult now. I also went a couple weeks in the fucking TRENCHES playing mario party with my friends over discord. We would play it as a drinking game and take a drink every time we lost a minigame and go till like 5am. We played the gamecube ones over Dolphin emulator since Im too poor for the switch ones and I thiiiink they're my favorites (sidenote: they were the worst reviewed for some reason? It seems consensus opinion being useless has always been true and isnt just a new thing because of twitter. Remember to always try things for yourself to form an opinion, friends). A lot happened in those games. many inappropriate words were said and friendships were tested. I will be taking the details of these matches to the grave as Im sure my friends will too. Drunk Mario party at 3am changes a man. I literally felt like the Joker by the end of it. Was I laughing at my misery? Or I have I simply gone mad with power? Not even I knew. Would recommend. Around Thanksgiving I played that discord tank game thats supposed to be a group activity while you wait in the voice channel for the real game you're playing to load. Turns out it had a solo queue and I put entirely too many hours in it (its good I swear!). That is until they removed solo queue because I guess discord co. saw me and the 10 other people sweating at the video game equivalent of a doctors office aquarium nobody has cleaned in 9 months and decided enough is enough. Dicks. I was gonna be an evo champion trust‼️ Ok that was what I played last year while trying to get an education! I played more random crap than I thought. Huh. Sonic Adventure rules if you get past the jank of it. I personally loved the open hub, but I get why it would be frustrating. And I can say it isn't because I'm nostalgic, cause I played it for the first time all the way through like a year and a half ago, and I adored it. It's def old and jank tho, but man oh man I love it. It's my favorite style of Sonic game, and SA2 is like one of my favorites ever.

Skimmed the video (going to watch the whole thing later), but holyshit It takes Two?!, Cyberpunk, and A little to the Left? for whatever reason it's odd for me to picture you playing modern games. But omg I love it Takes Two played that with my partner when it dropped during pandemic, lots of fond memories existing within that incredibly well-composed world.
Pikmin 4 was is my first game in the series. Never cared about the series before, probably because the visuals caught my eye and reminds me so much of games like Bugdom and Grounded. I’m a bit of a sucker for the shrunken down concept, in the world with bugs in the grass. Gameplay is more fun than I thought and game looks and feels amazing.
I agree with your thoughts on Sonic Adventure 100%. I had it on Dreamcast when it first came out & it blew my mind. I tried it on the GameCube about a year ago & while I still had fun with it, many parts of it do not hold up well at all. I would love to see a remake (I don't think a remaster would serve this game well at all) of this & Sonic Adventure 2, but so much work would have to go into making them more modern that it ultimately might not be worth it.

1:04:00 God It Takes Two is one of my favorite games of all time. It is so fun and some of the story elements (the elephant) genuinely made me uneasy in the best way possible. I am so hopeful for their next game, Split Fiction, and I am looking forward to any more co-op game they may have in the future.

@ ive been using motion since i started, however my friend who uses motion now started by just using motion for an entire splatfest and only using charger. she did awful but god did she learn. i did a similar thing when i picked up my wife, tenta brella. basically just start using it in a low stakes environment its not too too hard to learn and itll change your life

If you want an actual chill-out game instead of A Little to the Left, I recommend A Short Hike! It’s a great open-world game, and one of the most delightful and therapeutic experiences of my life.

My friends and I messed with the local multiplayer for Nintendo World Championships and we were surprised that it was actually a slightly brain-off goofy time. The amount of jank NES games have and difficulty to control at times makes it really funny when someone is getting genuinely tilted because of some NES bs.
I agree having some unique challenges would make it better but as a slightly competitive and goofy couch game, it's a pretty nice time especially when it's making us genuinely learn mechanics and tricks in games we'd have no other reason to learn.

Spider-Man 2 has the best combat in the whole series. I actually feel like beating every single enemy up in that game bc of how fun it is to play.
I’m a RE4 purist and refused to play the remake until the chainsaw demo sold me. The enemy design in the remake was amazing. A masterpiece for real.

Kirbys Return to Dreamland Deluxe is the remaster we never wanted, but didn't know we needed. It cements Magolor as one of the greatest videogame antagonists of all time and has some of the best multiplayer the Switch has to offer. Easily one of my favorite games of all time.

I really like Echoes of Wisdom, I didn’t think I would cause I’m not much of a Zelda fan usually, but this game is just super cool. But yeah the echoes menu definitely has the totk problem of a long line of items
Endless ocean luminous feels like you could just play Subnautica and it would scratch the same diving itch if you have an itch to play a game about diving
I recommend playing Sonic Adventure 2 as someone who no longer really likes sonic other than mania, and I didn’t grow up with it or anything and I got hooked. It doesn’t have a hub world or anything, and the chao garden is so addicting.
Especially listening to what you don’t and don’t like about adventure 1, I think 99% of those problems are fixed in Adventure 2

I’ve been playing lot of Mario Party on Switch, my kids love the mini games and even Kirby Return to Dreamland is a good multiplayer co-op. Also Sonic Adventure is a good game, but I hate the slowdowns and side missions, it’s like RPG rather than an action game!

Okay well if this is a roundtable discussion Ive actually been getting back into gaming lately since I graduated last year! I'm gonna write a lot u can read if u want to hear more yapping about games.
I finally started Hollow Knight after my friends harassed me for years about it. Im about 20 hours in and aim totally in love with the atmosphere. I don't have any experience with metroidvanias but Im loving the combat and exploration so far. The story is still way over my head though, but maybe it'll click? I also got In Stars and Time for myself as a grad present, an indie RPG about time looping with great writing and one of the most likable parties ever in an RPG. I couldn't get the limited release physical copy for the switch so that was devastating. I been playing Chrono Trigger too on Delta emulator bc I'm cultured and sexy. Its definitely dated but that adds to the charm since it's about time travel. Comparing it to ISAT is interesting given their shared subject matter and total opposite approaches to storytelling and combat. Classic RPGs are typically simple stories with easily understood characters. Its not that there's no depth or themeing, but its rarely the focus. Exploring the world and mastering the combat with easy but timed decisions is most of the meat. That said, the coolest trick Chrono Trigger pulled so far was story related. Early on, the game had me wait real world 10-30 seconds for a character to buy something from the store and stopping me if I tried to walk away or talk to her (which I tried). Then later during a trial, the judge recalled that I was "rushing" my friend instead of letting her take her time shopping which was evidence of suspicious character. I always love when games can make a connection to me the player and my actions rather than the character on screen. Chrono Trigger is fittingly ahead of its time in that way. Modern RPGs like In Stars and Time LOVE calling back to previous actions of the player. But it doubles down on quality of life gameplay changes and character writing. It tries to provide a charming and smart RPG experience then stay out of the way. This contrasts Chrono Trigger which is willing to inconvenience the player on purpose for the sake of a more immersive experience. The difference in combat is similar. ISAT battles are quick and overall doesn't take itself too seriously. The advantage triangle is literally rock paper scissors. The entire world lives on deadass rock paper scissors magic-- its hilarious! Theres strategy and combos and unique mechanics and turn passing, but its real strength is in storytelling. Like Undertale, ISAT knows how to alter the battles for funny or emotional
story moments that form a connection to the player. Sometimes its a weirdo one off enemy, or they'll alter a character portrait to a permanent frown. ISAT also uses the inherent monotony of the RPG genre to aid its story about repeating the same final day of an RPG over and over and over again similarly to Hades. I tend to prefer modern stuff like ISAT or Omori, but I respect the classics too! Other than that, Ive been connecting with my inner child with some good ol fashion pirating bad games for nostalgia sake! I played the Yugioh 5Ds World Championship 2009-2011 series for the DS. The writing sucks and the lore is so complicated and stupid it makes Kingdom Hearts look like Garfield and Friends. and lemme just say I got WAAAAAAAY too into it. Like. I was drawing fanart and making headcanons for my custom character, I had favorite random NPCs, I built a fun Halloween zombie deck from scratch and fell in love with it (it was also apparently pretty close to a deck that was pretty meta at the time for real life yugioh in 2011? So that made me feel smart) I've had a lifelong hyperfixation with this specific era of yugioh (if u cant tell i have adhd) and this was just a good time. The soundtrack FUCKS. I remember jamming to the ost off an edible and sending a bunch of tracks to my best friend unprompted and he was gettin annoyed 💀. But what's really cool is I found a super niche discord community of people who still play these games and hooked up online multiplayer with their own server you can connect to on an emulator. Its a small community but they were super knowledgeable and kind. There was this one guy who could break down deckbuilding to a science, there was a programmer girl who could put in whatever custom mods we could think of, it was so great. Shoutouts to them! Then earlier today I downloaded a rom of the Legendary Starfy for the DS after I randomly remembered it exists. It was one of my favorite games when I was 8. I remember asking my parents for it for my birthday, and they hid it from me when I was opening presents so they could give it to me last. Good memories. Anyways the game itself is just worse Kirby but every level is a water level. I blew through the first world in 10 minutes and it was nostalgic buuuuuuut this is a game for babies sorry inner child lol. Playing Starfy in 2025 is like finding a childhood stuffed animal while helping your parents move and being like ooh I remember liking this! before putting it away in a box forever. I just had to look at myself and be like ok time to go be an adult now. I also went a couple weeks in the fucking TRENCHES playing mario party with my friends over discord. We would play it as a drinking game and take a drink every time we lost a minigame and go till like 5am. We played the gamecube ones over Dolphin emulator since Im too poor for the switch ones and I thiiiink they're my favorites (sidenote: they were the worst reviewed for some reason? It seems consensus opinion being useless has always been true and isnt just a new thing because of twitter. Remember to always try things for yourself to form an opinion, friends). A lot happened in those games. many inappropriate words were said and friendships were tested. I will be taking the details of these matches to the grave as Im sure my friends will too. Drunk Mario party at 3am changes a man. I literally felt like the Joker by the end of it. Was I laughing at my misery? Or I have I simply gone mad with power? Not even I knew. Would recommend. Around Thanksgiving I played that discord tank game thats supposed to be a group activity while you wait in the voice channel for the real game you're playing to load. Turns out it had a solo queue and I put entirely too many hours in it (its good I swear!). That is until they removed solo queue because I guess discord co. saw me and the 10 other people sweating at the video game equivalent of a doctors office aquarium nobody has cleaned in 9 months and decided enough is enough. Dicks. I was gonna be an evo champion trust‼️

Pikmin 4 was is my first game in the series. Never cared about the series before, probably because the visuals caught my eye and reminds me so much of games like Bugdom and Grounded. I’m a bit of a sucker for the shrunken down concept, in the world with bugs in the grass. Gameplay is more fun than I thought and game looks and feels amazing.

I agree with your thoughts on Sonic Adventure 100%. I had it on Dreamcast when it first came out & it blew my mind. I tried it on the GameCube about a year ago & while I still had fun with it, many parts of it do not hold up well at all. I would love to see a remake (I don't think a remaster would serve this game well at all) of this & Sonic Adventure 2, but so much work would have to go into making them more modern that it ultimately might not be worth it.
