  • Earlier this week, Sting appeared with Shaggy on an installment of Rolling Stone’s In My Room IGTV series, and now, the artist and former Police frontman is back with his own video, where he called in from his home in Wiltshire, England.
“I’m lucky enough to have a recording studio here, where I can work everyday,” he says. “I’m very fortunate; I’m very grateful. I’m also grateful for our healthcare workers, who are doing an extraordinary job, risking their lives everyday on the front line. The best thing that we can do is to help them, and not to get sick, and not to add to their workload, because we are all in this together.”

The thing about Sting is, despite his talent, he struggles to create songs as a solo artist that are as interesting as what he created in the Police. I think he needs to have the full contributions of other band members, not just studio musicians hired to do what they're told. The result is better when it's a product of collaboration. It's the same case with David Hinds and Steel Pulse.

Dear Sting: yep, I got it. I got your message in a bottle. But...it's funny. I'm 37 years old: I grew up hearing this song on the radio countless times - have been hearing your "message" for as long as I can remember. Yet I've always taken it for granted, like rising and setting of the sun. It's just always been there. But today - to hear you sing it in May 2020, in lockdown, just you in your studio - the content of your "message" is different than all the other times. It hit me fresh and new. Marvelous composition. By the way I'm a music teacher (choir director, music theory) on Long Island, New York. Thank you for thinking of us New Yorkers, Sting. 🙏

Sting YOU ARE THE GREATEST!!!! I love all your music and writing and I am so happy for your success. Your collaboration with other singers just furthers your talent who you share with others. We are so lucky to have you in our lives. One day I will be able to see you in concert it’s my dream ... I missed you in Las Vegas you were ill and then the pandemic came and spoiled my next chance to see you and Shaggy together. So I send our love from my family and I from San Diego California ... and hope to see you soon. 🙏

Love Sting sooo much. He looks genuinely humble here and he's such a fantastic songwriter and singer. His music has enriched my life for some 42 years now. First saw The Police in '83 and have seen him on many solo tours. He still has it - so gifted.

Marc Lawrence total missing the humility. He told us what we should do about Covid. Like we don’t already know or something. Like we don’t eat, sleep and breath the stupid “alone together” slogan.
