I ordered it. Almost feel like I was duped into thinking it would sell out right away. 11 weeks or so later, they’re still available. I will say I’ll never spend that kind of money again for a single movie collectible that’s not numbered. It says strictly limited. What does that even mean? To me it means, if they get 1,000 preorders they’ll probably produce double that. 10,000 preorders? Yeah, they’ll absolutely produce them. Plus it’s already been delayed a week. Really hope it’s worth it.
The size of this set only compares to the Star Trek set. But I think much of the price tag is in the "leatherette" and die cast decorations. None of the other sets compared had anything close in terms of custom made unusual production run. I'm not saying that makes it worth it, but I think finding a worthy comparison point is really hard.
You aren’t going to bring up the fact about how gigantic the leatherette screen accurate book is? I love The Neverending Story (not $200 love), but you throw in the extras you mentioned and that gigantic high quality collectible book it’s housed in, I’m a buyer.
I hear ya. Actually in all of its promotional photos, it never seemed as big as it is. Now that people are showcasing it on YT, even they are saying "This is way bigger than I thought" so had I known it was truly that gigantic I certainly would have leaned on that for sure. That's the downside of relying just on promo photos. I hope you picked one up.
I think there is one very important distinction with this set compared to some of the others you've brought up...the book is a "display item", it's far larger than any normal "blu-ray box" and I think is meant to be some sort of replica (having metal "fittings" etc.) which will ofc add to the cost and desireability (for some people). I've never actually seen this movie...I was never a fan of the band Kajagoogoo (lead singer Limahl) and I found the main theme song (by Limahl) very irritating...it was a top5 hit over here and I think got quite a lot of airplay, that and the fact that the movie looked like it was aimed at 10 year olds (or younger) put me off. As it happens, seeing this release getting announced and that a lot of people were very excited about it and considered it a huge part of their childhoods made me look into this movie a bit more and I learned something I thought was very interesting. The German extended cut is apparently in the English language and has a different soundtrack...apparently the tone of the extended cut and soundtrack is much darker and closer to what the (German) director was going for...and the theatrical cut with the up-beat Limahl song is completely absent. I love "dark fairytales" (eg. "Pan's Labyrinth") and anything fantasy related in general, even if aimed at a younger audience (eg. "Labyrinth" and "Legend") so I'm now extremely interested in seeing this extended German cut. I'm ofc not the target audience for this $175 special edition but I'm thinking about getting hold of the German extended edition, the Blu-ray can be had for less than $10 and the 4K/Blu-ray for less than $20 (Amazon Germany).
Yea I guess that’s what will draw the bigger fans to get this…that beefy display. It is impressive, sort of like getting a full size Book of the Dead for an evil dead set.
One of my best DVD Era box set is my Troy collector's edition which I got used but mint for $10. My favorite bluray Era one is my Forbidden Planet steel box collector's edition which contains Lobby cards but also a little miniature Robby the robot amongst other things
Does this mean that the "extended" German cut is THE version that we already have in Germany? if so, then this edition (if you ignore the price) would be completely unnecessary for me, I have the media book that we have in Germany which contains this cut and I also have the documentary as of today. it's a cool edition, no question about it, but to pay $200 FOR IT is pretty crazy in my opinion
I ordered one going off the “prop replica” side of this. The Evil Dead necronomicon from trick or treat studios is $100. If you threw 5 discs and other fluff into that and released it as a set you’d absolutely be paying the same or more. It comes down to if the replica is pulled off well. If it is it’s absolutely priced correct imo. I guess we’ll see.
For sure. This set is purely for that sweet collectible. Content wise, it's pretty similar, but that prop is rad! Still out of my price range by very cool. Like, if they made a Superman set and it came with the green crystal, yea, I'd probable pay for that! I've always wanted that green crystal.
I don’t know if it’s worth it $ wise, but I ordered it anyways because the movie means so much to me. I tried to look at it this way. Would I trade 4 or 5 movies I own for this set? Would I rather use that money to buy 4 or 5 future releases that I like a lot or would I rather use that on something I truly love that is a very special release. For me The Neverending Story won out in the end or I did a decent enough job of convincing myself of it. :)
I love to hear that. This isn’t one I grew up with and have a major connection with. I would like to give it another watch though based on what you learned.
Like you, I convinced myself to buy the set. No turning back now. But I do love the movie. I've spent more money on stupidity and bad stuff. This is nothing! Worth the price. Now I'm convincing myself to buy another box set
Warner Bros would never do something like this, i hear its Limited, so thats the price, imprint decide what to put on it, if theres stuff in it you will not see, then do not buy it, cos you are forking out for something that you will not see, Some Collectors on youtube so contradict themselves, its so hypocritical!
What do Real Collectors really want, and how much are you willing to pay, i mean ppl moaning about 130 Dollars for a Super Douper deluxe box set of Re-Animator, OBVIOUSLY NOT A FOLLOWER OF SMALL LABELS !!!!!
In then end it just comes down to how much money do you have in your bank account and how much are you willing to pay for things like this. It truly is a spectacular looking piece now that people are actually showing it off. Still not for me, but for those who love this movie and want to spend that much for this unique release, then I'm happy for them.
Mm hm, you got that right. I know that outer box is supposed to be something special and quite the collectible, so maybe that’s good added value for some. Even though I focused on content, I am curious who’s ready to scoop this puppy up.

Good luck John! Come on back after you get it and let us know if it's a worthy collectible or a cheap hunk of junk.
@ I absolutely will!

It’s a good distinction - especially because the box/casing for the Star Trek director’s edition was surprisingly flimsy.
Another great episode :-)
Thank you, my friend! Loved you American Werewolf episode! It's my favorite of all the werewolf movies.
Hey Huck, know matter what price this 4k uhd box set is, Tony at Basement Blus will definitely buy it 💰 Even at 1k 💰 Good Job Old Buddy 🍻
Thanks Huck
This is a classic movie by imprint one of there best releases of the year

I agree. I think that would be a waste for you unless that leathery collectible calls to you.

If people didn't buy them they wouldn't make them!
I couldn't bring myself to buy this set I just couldn't justify it
For Collectors only and ppl who really love the movie, Recently i bought the DVD, then i bought the sequel|||||||||||||
It is definitely pricey. But at the same time it is a lot bigger than these sets that you showed off. It weighs over five pounds.
Dang that is beefy. You getting it?
@@HucksPopCultureCafe I ordered it from DiabolikDVD.
Looks like a great set, but I’m passing on that price!
I'm with you on that Corey!

Hey bud, are the Blu-rays region locked or not?
I haven’t heard if they are or not. I’ll do some digging and find out. The 4Ks aren’t region locked so if you have a 4K player, you’re all set.
@@HucksPopCultureCafe thanks bud
For me it is not worth $175 but it might be for others as the book seems to be more like an actual prop replica and those can be quite pricey.
Yes that is definitely the draw since the contents are fairly standard.
175? Haha it's 250. And yes I ordered 😅

not sure about some of these prices anymore, definitely laughable.
Price gouging is real 😭
