I don’t get the negative comments. Yeah it’s pricey, but that’s what collectors do. They buy things they want in their collection. Anyway, one of my favorite movies. Saw it when it came out and it always stuck with me. Time to make a purchase. 😀
@@videoproboston2450 Negative comments? There's nothing negative about not wanting to be obviously ripped off. They're price gouging simply because people like you will buy whatever slop they put out as long as the word limited is attached to it. There's nothing in this set that's worth even half that price. Film collecting has become less about the films and more about what paper crap can we put with the film to charge even more money. Even so called collectors going nuts for art cards and press kit replicas that they'll never look at twice. There's no reason on this earth that this set should cost $200 total.
@@williamwest7008 You don’t have to buy it so there is no ripoff or price gouging going on. And why is it slop if I think it’s a cool collectors edition? I only buy movies I like or love so I’m not buying just to load up shelves with nice box-art. I get that it’s pricey. I’d like all the movies I collect to be $20 too, but that ain’t happening.
This set is designed for the most diehard fans, with different versions of the film and memorabilia. I get it that many people just want the base 4K version of the film, but that will absolutely come later. There’s no reason for people to be mad about this.
Agreed! It most certainly will the amount of DVD and Blu-ray releases this got all over the world over the years I figure a few will be available sooner than later. The outrage seems crazy to me I’ve seen it all over plus in these comments. There are plenty of big collectors sets I have passed on they weren’t for me or not my favorite movie but not mad about it lol
Imprint don't owe it to anyone to release the base 4K version of the film. This is a box set for serious collectors who are willing to pay the price. If others want the film and nothing else, they're free to buy the already available 4K vanilla disc. It's an older one, for sure, but it's a very good one.
Only hardcore collectors would be attracted to that boxset. I don’t know how many of those they’d actually sell. I think they would make more money if they just had a regular slipcover release. Many of us a casual fans of this movie. 🍿
I get that and I most certainly pass on many of the big collector sets for most movies. Glad to have a standard slipcover or have been known to get the VHS on eBay for many films. Not sure why they didn't release a standard version at the same time but being a smaller company and not a big studio they may have to recoup some of the costs first. Almost always the re release standard versions months after the initial run sells out. I would bet money that Warner or another label would release it state side with in a year or so.
@@williamwest7008 you can't be ripped off if you don't buy it. It's a consumer's choice to pay what they feel is worth it for the price. I consider it worth it and it's my choice.
@@80sMadeConsumer I didn't think I was negative. As I originally replied to @williamwest7008, it's my choice as a consumer to pay for something or to not buy it. The value I am willing to pay for something is what the product is worth to me.
Nice dude! Ya think I’m gonna have to bite the bullet on this too. I interviewed the director and creator of the Doc included. I’m so happy for her to be part of this. I do however wish for that price point we did get the sequels in there as well.
Thanks! If it was any other movie or just a slipbox that price would’ve been hard to swallow, of course I’d love a cheaper set and the sequels too. Most people only show love for the 1st one and I don’t even own the 3rd so a big box set would’ve been great. Glad she was part of it, I’ll have to check that out.
I hear everyone complaining about the price. But this is literally a big collector's box for people that are willing to pay that. I would bet money that a standard 4k release will be put out here shortly. So I dont see the issue. If i hadn't spent so much recently I'd be ordering it. I'd love to have all of this. But instead I'll wait for a standard release.c
Exactly, well said 👍 I have been in that boat plenty of times jumped the gun on something expensive and had to miss out or get the standard version no regrets. This though just worked out perfect with timing there wasn’t much I had preordered this month and just recovered from July went way over board.
@@80sMadeConsumer I think the last collectors set I purchased before this was the Steelbook 5 Film Set for Superman 4K. One of my favorite sets is The Harry Potters Wizards Collection. I have 1,885 movies in my collection. I keep track of them in My Movies app.
They make it pricey to build market value and exclusivity. It helps ensure they sell out and make all their money. We'll see plenty of these selling for BIG money on eBay not too much later.
I can't argue with that and I do suspect thats the case I bet there are some on eBay right now. It's just lately I have had a harder time getting the less expensive sets at preorder and the only place is on eBay at double or triple the original cost.
There is a German 4k that can be easily imported from amazon and I here it looks fantastic. The price gouging is from the resellers charging double and triple on this stuff after the fact there is different value in different things for everybody. I think the cyber truck looks goofy and overpriced, but I keep seeing them on the road.
@80sMadeConsumer the german release does not have the classic theme song, so I would think most movie fans would want both releases. When labels act like scalpers, you have a problem. Same thing happened to the statue industry.
@@leog2906 wasn’t aware of the soundtrack difference. Not sure it would’ve bothered me it never did with Legend but you’re right I have both versions. And that is exactly why I stopped buying statues the very last one I bought was fairly pricey and made of some sort of plastic or pvc
Not gouging perse. Rather than release different versions -- blu ray OR 4K--- with the same bonus material they put out a kitchen sink edition containing both formats. I do 100% concur about the price being extremely expensive.
Yeah, I'm one of the crazy people that bought this set. I couldn't pass it up, to have something like this. The amount of times I watch this movie when I was sick, or it was raining, or it was cold outside. The amount of memories I have of this movie this is a personification of it
I bought it, too, and I'm not crazy. So by that definition, you're not crazy, either. This box set is worth it for the chance of seeing the bullies jump into the dumpster in glorious 4K alone!
Restoring films isn't $200 expensive, Arrow and 88 films give great limited editions and boxsets for great value. They have multiple discs, new restorations, posters, art cards, reversible artwork, hard slip box, tons of features. They don't even charge as much for 14 or 15 disc boxsets as these scammers are charging for one film. 5 discs is irrelevant, only 2 are new scans, even if all 5 discs were new, that's still only worth around 40 to 50 quid. Everything else is just paper crap that you could print yourself. The replica book can be got on Amazon cheap. I can't believe so many people are defending this scumbag, scammer behavior from this company. You're actually excited to pay huge amounts of money for one film and a bunch of cardboard. Holy shit.
You’ve already made up your mind and thats cool, the set isn’t for everyone the box is more than cardboard it weighs over 5 pounds. but here are some facts and numbers on the topic. Licensing a film for home video distribution vary significantly based on factors such as the film's popularity, the size of the distribution territory, and the terms of the agreement. Generally, the cost for licensing a film for home video distribution might range from: * $10,000 to $50,000 for smaller or independent films. * $50,000 to $200,000 or more for mid-range films. * $200,000 to several million dollars for major studio releases or highly popular films. The cost of a 4K restoration of a 35mm film can vary depending on the film's condition and the extent of the work required. Generally, you might expect the cost to range from $50,000 to $150,000 or more. This price typically includes the following steps: * Scanning the film at 4K resolution. * Digital restoration, which involves cleaning up scratches, dust, and other damage. * Color correction and grading. * Audio restoration (if needed). * Mastering the restored film for distribution. The total cost can be higher if the film is in particularly poor condition or if extensive work is required.
Look, eventually they will release a cheaper version smaller without the bells and whistles. I ordered it because I'm getting older and the nostalgia of Neverending Story formed me as a person. I was happy to put the money on it. And it will be THE highlight of my physical media. This will also be a massive sign that people are willing to drop money on physical media. And that's great.
This is my favorite movie of all time so I bit the bullet and bought it but was still questioning the price of it. Jump to today, I just got it in and it is well worth the money I paid for it I do not regret it at all
Solid video! I love the $5 Walmart bin comparison hahaha I also mention back in the day prices for 1 movie in my video coming out later today, I bought the Legend Ultimate Edition dvd in 2004 which was $50 back then & I was in high school, that’s like $83 today
Figured you'd like the walmart bin reference. Oh man people forget how expensive this home video used to be I remember the 1st two seasons of Friends were probably 70 bucks when the show was still on the air,and the prices dropped when season 3 came out. Legend is another one that would have gotten all my money great film.
I ordered this as soon as It came up for Pre Order. Its Going to be beautiful. Remember those in the us the exchange rate for you is very good. You wont pay 250 or whatever. You get 1.30 per Aussie Dollar, British even cheaper.
I’m very interested in this and am a sucker for replica releases (wish I’d found the Voight-Kampf _Blade Runner_ Final Cut package 😒) but I’m a little confused about something. Is it available in Region 1 since the link is to Australia or at least Region Free/All Region?
I missed out on the Bald Runner set too. You will have no worries every single movie I have ordered from Imprint about 60 titles have all been region free. Non of their discs have ever had any kind of region code either. Hope you get one its about enjoying the journey. Side note I highly recommend getting a cheap region free player just so you never have to worry about that ever again Here is a video I did on that topic. th-cam.com/video/HqNY5eK9aLQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=46SxI8CbrJ_-sNmP
It depends how much you love a certain film. Some people are willing to pay top dollar for a film they are passionate about. I had a copy of that GONE WITH THE WIND VHS box set that you were holding which I bought thirty years ago and gave it away to charity. I have two copies of a German box set similar to the GWTW one of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY as part of my all time favourite movie’s memorabilia collection. I just discovered recently the Italian distributor Raro Film Studios have just released three limited editions of 2001: the One Click box set is just stunningly gorgeous and mouth-wateringly beautiful, but damn it is so expensive! I simply couldn’t let it go. I both two copies along with a free soundbar with it…😮❤
I most certainly agree with you I too just recently bought an outrageously expensive oneclick box because Its one of my all time favorite films and I am trying to collect every release even the ones I missed out on. That being said the Labyrinth and Dark Crystal sets coming out of Shout Factory feel like a rip off. Not my all time favorite films but probably make the top 10 or 25 lists. I love them enough to but over priced premium sets and these boxes feel like an utter disappointing cash grab. Not for me but also wouldn’t be mad at anyone who picked them up.
@@80sMadeConsumer Yes, it does come down to what is featured in a particular release of a limited edition. In most cases they do tend to be overpriced tat which should not have to cost too much. In the case of 2001, I have bought virtually every single home entertainment release, format and version of it: and in recent years, Stanley Kubrick’s film has received such beautifully crafted masterwork, like 2001 itself. Because the film is true cinematic art, all the distributors who worked closely with Warner Bros and I assume the Stanley Kubrick Estate treat every 4K/Blu-ray release as such. World Cinema Library, Manta Lab, Film Vault and now Raro Film Studios treated 2001 with such care, time and meticulous attention with their stunningly beautiful and extremely releases of the film, which stand out so well as works of art themselves.
That is the one I'm most excited for, hopefully your order gets here soon! I’m trying to stay away from any spoilers truly a beloved film and I want my thoughts to be unjaded.
The most expensive release I have bought was the Criterion Zatoichi the Blind Swordsman set for $150. The difference is it has 25 movies in it. I can't spend that for a single film.
I get it, for a long time I was that way too, but now it’s less about adding new movies and more about curating the collection. I have a few pricey sets but for a long time it was get as many as cheaply as possible.
Wanted to get this as soon as I saw it. I was definitely tempted but perhaps a bigger concern for me than the price is actually the sheer size of it. I am running out of room for my discs as it is, so making space for a big book like that would be a real challenge. It is definitely nice though. I bought the War of the Worlds Steelbook that Imprint did a while back and something like that is what I am hoping they do with NeverEnding Story after they sell out of this edition. Would be super happy if they keep the same lenticular hardcase from this set with a Steelbook inside that looks like the story book from the movie.
That really was my only concern but nostalgia kicked in and I will make room for it. Nova Media out of Korea does a great job with slip case versions and they have the Blu-ray so I could see many other companies picking this up at some point sooner than later
I would have loved a cheaper set. but since I was a kid I wanted that book, the replica book has been anywhere from 130-200 I see more value in this 4k set being a movie guy.
I’m really surprised this is still available for purchase. Either the price tag scared most away, or it’s not as limited as I hoped. Surprising still is that I paid this much for a collectors piece that isn’t even numbered. The 40 years of memories is why I took the plunge, but I’m not gonna lie I’m having a touch of buyers remorse….
I think you’re right that higher price point plus the shipping keeps the scalpers and buy 2 sell 1 guys away! Which is good and bad I would always like a cheaper set but I also want real fans to get these. I preorders it that day out of sight out of mind no buyers remorse for me, but I recently bought something I haven’t talked about yet spent a ludicrous amount for one movie. Happy I have it (it’s not the Texas chainsaw set that was 300) I spent more for less 🤦♂️ some buyers remorse, but more that it was cheaper when it came out so I over paid on eBay. That Neverending Story set got me 100 percent on nostalgia and I wanted that book since I was a kid. The only thing that would make it better would be a Auryn necklace
I don’t think so with what you are getting as far as the different versions of the film the extra features and the box is heavy wrapped in a leather like material with die cast metal ornamentation. What screams of ripoff & price gouging is the Labyrinth and Dark Crystal sets just announced from Shout factory that is over priced for extra paper garbage 90-260 dollars. Just because new extra costs for some Q&A and a juggling tutorial.
I completely understand that and if it was any other movie I would have done the same. I was actually debating on getting it last week because I was already importing a movie I didn't have and only got a German release.
I want this so bad I don’t have it on physical media at all and it’s one of my favorite all-time movies. $200 is gonna take a minute though. I’m still paying off my employer for a slight advance to finish off my set up last month. So I hope it’s not too limited! I couldn’t tell if it says it on imprint’s website or not.
I didn't notice how limited it may be they usually have about 1500 or so but say it. They might be waiting to see how well the preorders go. I'm fairly certain that other versions of this movie will be coming out soon.
If it helps the company recoup money and it eventually gets to regular buyers that's fine. I personally cannot fathom $200 for a single movie no matter how many cards are pretty a box it comes in... That's just insane but whatevs
I get it and wouldn’t spend that on just any film, that one got me. Around the same time this was announced so was the Dark Crystal and Labyrinth both from Shout studios. Those had multi tier pricing starting at 90 and going over 200. Everything they had was silly junk. I love those films but zero value. I always look at it like sports guys that collect autograph balls, bats, cards, etc…. And those that have to have the game used stuff only. Not everyone is going to agree, but to them there’s something in it that sucks them in.
Yes every single one of the has been region free plays perfectly in any player. I’ve been buying Imprint films long before I had a region free player. I have noticed if I get one off Amazon the site default says region b but I think thats a default message. Never been an issue.
@@markpugh6808Yeah I think a few companies do it as some kind of loophole. The Masters of the Universe set even had an email go out claiming region locked worked perfect didn’t have to use my region free player.
Lol, I always tell people I'm a film collector and have to explain to folks I don't collect stuff you buy from Walmart. They aren't into this stuff like we are, so they dont understand. I'll usually have to do a show and tell so they can actually see what the differences are. I've been collecting a while now, and most of the time, you pay for what you get. I still stand by that Texas Chainsaw massacre with the Chainsaw display is a waist of money.
@@timothycrawford3476 that’s the real point and the people that get upset about it, I just don’t get it. Big expensive premium sets have always been here. The only difference is now every TH-camr is like an infomercial on that release more eyes on the prize if you will. I agree about the Texas Chainsaw set. I was all about it until I saw the price! I’d rather overpay for the original off eBay. That set at that price really should have been all the movies.
Trust me there are plenty of big collector sets that I’m happy to own the standard release, I would never spend that regularly. I think they should have released two version at the same time but that they wanted to sell out of the higher price point version. I would be shocked if we don’t see a standard release within a year from somebody. That bluray has been released multiple times all over the world.
My first thought was they included a copy of the original book with the high quality cover from the movie. That would've been amazing and I would've pre-ordered instantly. But the 'book' seems to be a case for the whole set. Also, Dolby Vision for the 4K version 🤢 DV sucks and gives white images a yellow hue, like the movie is playing on a worn-out projector bulb. I'm still interested and may pick this up. The movie meant a lot to me and they deserve the income for restoring it.
I’ve heard of some people having that dame experience with DV. I have not, there was a great video about how there is no standard in 4k tvs and settings can ruin a picture. The replica book would have been cool but probably just leave it on display and never read it anyway. There are plenty of expensive sets that I skip but this one has all the nostalgia.
Casual art lovers buy cheap reproduction posters. Art collectors spend millions on original works. Casual film fans watch vanilla versions of films on their phones. Film lovers collect their favourite films in the best packaging at the highest quality. I don't see what the problem is? It doesn't make sense to sell an enormous box set like this at vanilla disc prices! Yeah, I can understand how it won't be much fun for those people who can't afford it, but at the same time, it's always possible to buy this instead of any number of other things for a few days or weeks. It's just a matter of having enough will-power to not buy a lot of other stuff. Some discipline. I personally love the idea of owning the ultimate versions of the films I admire. And the fact that they're limited editions that will never be reprinted, well, that only makes it that much more special. I can't say I'm always that into all the swag that comes with these releases, but when you get a box set like the Neverending Story, where EVERYTHING (except Michael Ende's novel) is included, then it's a pleasure to pay a premium price. It's a hobby and a passion to collect. And most of all, it's fun. I used to be a smoker. It's a lot better to spend the nicotine cash on something like this!
@@SpaceCattttt I completely agree! Glad I’m getting one and it is a hobby people can’t grasp the idea of being a movie buyer and a collector. For me the best part is not everyone will have one but I will!
Good video! Personally, I would never purchase the set. Way too expensive imo. I've been a movie buff for almost 40 years now. 1200 movies out of all thousands i've seen in my life I consider 'my favorites'.. suppose I had to buy (or rebuy) those for $160 a pop?? I think the pricing of physical media is insane. And it alsways hase been like that. Outrageous! :D
Thank you and as someone who has a large collection with many movies still on VHS and DVD if I had to start replacing them at that cost there are many films I wouldn’t buy again. I have saved my absolute favorites for buying these more expensive premium sets and thats a fairly small chunk of my whole collection. I know this got me only because I wanted that book since I was a kid I’m sure a replica book exists out there but I’ve always been a movie guy. This stuff is outrageous and would I have liked a cheaper set of course.
Can’t tell you what to do brother but I look at it this way I wouldn’t spend that on just any movie. The replica book is about 100-130 cool as it might be I’m a movie guy a bit more and I have the coolest extras plus the movie, plus I also collect press kits even though thats a replica the only one I saw on eBay was 500. If this was just a steel book which people pay more for on ebay I would say it was crazy. Every one has that one crazy piece in their collection I have a lot and nothing like that yet. To take the sting out of the purchase Imprint lets you use paypal so you can use the pay in 4 feature 50 bucks every 2 weeks is easier to swallow.
I can see where you are coming from to a point there are plenty of over priced sets I have passed on. This is one that if it was a bit more I would have been out. I think it’s fair. The shout factory Labyrinth set is crazy and feels cheep.
It also looks really stupid when studios have a title like Neverending Story of which there were two parts. But as big as the disc space they have is, the goons still release only NES Pt.1, and ignore Pt.2. So apparently it WAS an ending story, then.
I would usually agree but I still don't own the 3rd one and only recently bought the 2nd. Not everyone likes the sequels if they put out a whole set with all the sequels I probably would have passed on it or got the German 4k.
why ?? because...... someone is prepared to pay this. I'm not interested - Aussie here. There's just too much tat : art cards are pointless. A 'collector's market' does not bring more people into this product market - which then reduces the amount of titles released. We should be getting more buyers into buying media - rather than less. I don't know 'how' you can compare a VHS price to the current disc formats - that was a product in its infancy - Blu / 4K has been out for many years - we can't have products returning back to the 'good ol' days of way OTT prices' - otherwise we will be left with fewer options (eg streaming).
This set is for that person who has to have it, clearly not for everybody there will be standard versions coming down the road. The Blu-ray has been released so many times in multiple countries again and again. When it comes to collecting sports memorabilia and cars prices are insane with not as much hate, there was a Lord of the Rings box set that came in at $800 around 2016 most people don't know that it exists because it wasn't for everybody. VHS was introduced 10 years before the example I gave hardly in It's infancy given that the 1st 4k disc was launched 8 years ago. The point wasn't comparing apples to oranges, but the people buying them then and the people buying them now are the same people that want to own their movies just like then. Getting people to mass purchase movies that ship has sailed no matter what happens people who want connivence will choose that. 2700 plus movies in the house and the family would rather stream movies we already own.
@@80sMadeConsumer just to note - Imprint has not re-released many titles in 'standard editons' - we haven't seen much here in Australia where they have done that - it's mainly just getting rid of the case (which is pointless as the vast majority of stuff here don't have them). I'd be surprised to see Neverending released in a standard version at this point
@@sylvaniaboi You are probably right on that, trying to collect Imprint titles I have noticed a few in the collection that I missed out on did get a re issue without the slipbox. If Imprint doesn't do a standard version I bet others will. The Blu-ray got over 16 releases 5 USA, 3 UK, 2 Japan. I think this might be the 1st Australian release though.
The big draw of this set is the book. It is a leatherbound book replica measuring roughly 12 X 14 inches. The medallion and corner pieces are all die cast metallic pieces. Also has gold foil stamping on the book. It is expensive but it is not like you are just getting a cheap piece of cardboard like most sets. This is actually a quality replica and many people that grew up with the movie will love to have it on display. You are also getting the Lenticular hardcase with all of the standard limited edition swag. That alone would cost in the $80 range if sold as a standard Imprint limited edition. $100 more for a prop replica is not that unreasonable if you have ever bought or priced replicas in the past. From what I have read the entire set weighs a little over 5lbs. A standard edition will be released form Imprint or another company in the near future. It is rumored that Arrow may have the US rights so time will tell!
Exactly I'm just shocked at the amount of people hating on this. Of course it isn't for everyone, but to pretend it isn't a quality collectors item and claim its just paper and cardboard seems like a weird thing to get mad about. wouldn't be surprised at all about Arrow picking it up definitely makes sense for arrow and that Blu-ray got something like 16 releases all over the world give it time standard releases are coming down the road.
If they included a real size snake medallion necklace with it, there would be no 2nd thoughts bout it. And charging 200$ they should! Love this movie I grew up with it but I have the dvd, blu ray and imported German 4k. I’d be buying this strictly for the storybook/ packaging, just kinda silly. And just fyi imprint, nobody gives a shit about dumb art cards
A necklace medallion would have been perfect! 100 percent the book is why I wanted it, would have been happy with a standard 4k but they hit me right in the nostalgia. Art cards post cards most of the time I couldn’t care less, but there have been a few exceptions on my favorite movies where I have framed them.
I think I may end up pulling the trigger on this one myself lol. It’s really been eating at me. It’s just such a special film to me, I think any one who grew up in the 80s can relate. The price is absurd but f it, you only love once and this is the stuff that makes me happy. Getting my preorder in now, have thought long and hard about it
@@mikeward5192 I still watch all 3 regularly, I have the 4k versions of Labyrinth and Dark Crystal that Sony put out. At 1st I wasn’t interested in the new box sets that shout studios is offering. They added more too them and now I’m a little on the fence for the base versions. Not 100 percent sold but there is some potential.
Great commentary my friend….SUBBED👍🏼… I loooove this film and it’s pricey and I know I can’t afford it but I’m really conflicted because regardless of what boutique label or Warner themselves release this film it’s not going to be as good as this lavish box set …. It just isn’t so I dint know , I get paid Wednesday and I’ll make my decision then , but at best I’ll just charge it because there is no way in hell I’d pay $200 of my hard earned , making less than 50k a year including overtime ass money on this .
@@papmasterOST love the honesty, and I haven’t been too keen on modern cinema, but I am a sucker for Vampire films good or bad. But that bluray is not a collectors edition it really should be in the bargain bin by next year.

I appreciate your honesty I have a friend who does it it’s just not for me. No ill will either way, but be sure to let me know of something I miss. Don’t want to have to find it on ebay.
When I picked up the whole Back to the Future trilogy in 4K with included orginal Blu-rays and the digital codes for only $25 dollars, I can't see the justification in that price for a film I have already owned on DVD for about two decades at a fraction of that price. Even The Matrix DVD set with 7 disks and the Neo bust wasn't that much. I will definitely wait until they release it on 4K in regular packaging. I have been a collector myself for over 25 years with several sets that were more expensive than typical DVD or Blurays but as much as I love that film since I saw it as a kid in the early 80s, I find that price to be outrageously high. The fact that I can't even put that on a shelf with my other films is another reason I won't ever be getting that. If I wanted a replica of the book, there's plenty of them being sold on Amazon. Movie collecting is already a niche market, and I can't see this helping anything. DVD sales are still the vast majority of physical copies of films being sold today.
I can see your point and most certainly wouldn’t start paying that if every movie came out at those higher prices. I’m completely skipping the Labyrinth and Dark Crystal sets from shout factory. I’ve been aware of the book for quite some time but not being a book guy never saw the point some of the better made ones hit that higher price point of $130. But big expensive collectors sets have always been around there is a ridiculous Lord Of the Rings set made of wood the movies are in fake leather bound books that had a price tag of 800 back when stores still had several isles just for movies. Now I never paid that but getting it on clearance it was still more than a car payment. Its a set most people didn’t even know it was available it was for the die hard fans or in my case bought it for my wife who isn’t a movie person but loves those films. Don’t get me wrong I love saving money I have several hundred VHS tapes that I started rebuying at a dollar or less cheaper than renting a movie digitally and now I own films that for the price point happy to own and rewatch when ever but probably wouldn’t upgrade many of them.
How so? I have hundreds that look incredible. There is in fact no standard with tv settings and a picture can vary wildly between different model televisions. If you are talking about a bad transfer with inconsistent film grain from scene to scene, Blu-ray had some stinkers in their early days as well.
I pre ordered it a few weeks ago and it is amazing love the imprint movie collection
Awe man I’m super stoked about this one! Huge Imprint fan, just got my shipping notification the other day! Hope you enjoy .
@@videoproboston2450 Good job! Enjoy it! I know I will in spite of other's negativity.

Great video thanks!!! Pre-ordered also.
Awesome! Thank you! Glad you got one
Well looks like it's almost gone. Hard to find it lower than $300 atm. Glad I snagged it.
I pre-ordered it. One of the first movies I remember seeing as a child. Totally okay with the price.

Companies price gouging is insane. Collectors need to vote with their wallets and stop buying this crap.
The amount of memories I have of this movie this is a personification of it
You and me both! And no worries calling someone a fan of something is shortening the word fanatic. I’m a fan!

This box set is worth it for the chance of seeing the bullies jump into the dumpster in glorious 4K alone!
@@SpaceCattttt 😂it’s a great scene.
Generally, the cost for licensing a film for home video distribution might range from:
* $10,000 to $50,000 for smaller or independent films.
* $50,000 to $200,000 or more for mid-range films.
* $200,000 to several million dollars for major studio releases or highly popular films.
The cost of a 4K restoration of a 35mm film can vary depending on the film's condition and the extent of the work required. Generally, you might expect the cost to range from $50,000 to $150,000 or more. This price typically includes the following steps:
* Scanning the film at 4K resolution.
* Digital restoration, which involves cleaning up scratches, dust, and other damage.
* Color correction and grading.
* Audio restoration (if needed).
* Mastering the restored film for distribution.
The total cost can be higher if the film is in particularly poor condition or if extensive work is required.
Yeah, Imprint is in my top five labels and maybe moving up. Why, because of the types of movies and presentation / aesthetics.
I 100% agree and would have got it anyway even if it was just their standard slipbox, but come on that packaging is top notch.

Look, eventually they will release a cheaper version smaller without the bells and whistles. I ordered it because I'm getting older and the nostalgia of Neverending Story formed me as a person. I was happy to put the money on it. And it will be THE highlight of my physical media.

Figured you'd like the walmart bin reference. Oh man people forget how expensive this home video used to be I remember the 1st two seasons of Friends were probably 70 bucks when the show was still on the air,and the prices dropped when season 3 came out. Legend is another one that would have gotten all my money great film.

I’m really looking forward to it! Glad you got one too. I have a friend in Australia he pointed out it was quite a bit cheaper for me.

Yes, it does come down to what is featured in a particular release of a limited edition.
My order shipped days ago and it's been stuck without an update. I saw an unboxing of it and it looks amazing!

200 bucks just to say you're the coolest kid on the block, no thanks
I get it and wouldn’t do it for every release only a small handful of my favorites. I’ve wanted that book since childhood.
Great video. I hope they rerelease this as a standalone version down the line, because I do not have the space for that big box.

What screams of ripoff & price gouging is the Labyrinth and Dark Crystal sets just announced from Shout factory that is over priced for extra paper garbage 90-260 dollars. Just because new extra costs for some Q&A and a juggling tutorial.
Can't justify the cost. I did get the German one which is 4K and a customized english slip cover which is beautiful for $35
I completely understand that and if it was any other movie I would have done the same. I was actually debating on getting it last week because I was already importing a movie I didn't have and only got a German release.
I want this so bad I don’t have it on physical media at all and it’s one of my favorite all-time movies. $200 is gonna take a minute though. The Blu-rays have always been region free and so far all of them have been top notch quality.
i find nothing wrong with collectors edition. imjist want a reg release with a slipcover and the blue ray with digital code for a cheaper price
Yeah, I can understand how it won't be much fun for those people who can't afford it, but at the same time, it's always possible to buy this instead of
any number of other things for a few days or weeks. It's just a matter of having enough will-power to not buy a lot of other stuff. Some discipline.
I personally love the idea of owning the ultimate versions of the films I admire. And the fact that they're limited editions that will never be reprinted,
well, that only makes it that much more special. I can't say I'm always that into all the swag that comes with these releases, but when you get a box set
like the Neverending Story, where EVERYTHING (except Michael Ende's novel) is included, then it's a pleasure to pay a premium price.

I would never pay that amount for a movie.... BUT is the never-ending story. Right now I don't know what to do. I really want it. But is so expensive.
@@80sMadeConsumer Just bought it on diabolikdvd. Thanks man
Seems to be a lot of price gouging in physical media. They really don’t want you to own anything
3
That 3rd one is hard to watch even though it has Jack Black, I can't get over the Falkor design
Getting my preorder in now, have thought long and hard about it
@@mikeward5192 Enjoy my friend!
Thanks you to…and on top of this labyrinth and dark crystal 4k box sets! Sheesh all 3 of these films I watched religiously as a kid, gotta have them
@@mikeward5192 I still watch all 3 regularly, I have the 4k versions of Labyrinth and Dark Crystal that Sony put out.
Thank you ! Hope you get one, if not charging it use PayPal pay in 4 option splits it up every 2 weeks less hurt on the wallet
It wasn't that good of a movie to warrant the insane price.
For you maybe and that's cool.
Couldn’t have said it better 👍

To be fair and Honest, Abigail was Crap.
@@papmasterOST love the honesty, and I haven’t been too keen on modern cinema, but I am a sucker for Vampire films good or bad. But that bluray is not a collectors edition it really should be in the bargain bin by next year.
@@80sMadeConsumer I hear you,Oh I didn't realize that I Do like Vampire Movies until I started Naming every Vampire Movie I could think Although I do prefer Vampires kiss over Reinfield..I'll catch you next time ✌🏼
tbh i have ordered 2, one for me and one to sell. Done the same for A Nightmare on Elm Street
Ultra 4K is SHIT !
How so? I have hundreds that look incredible. There is in fact no standard with tv settings and a picture can vary wildly between different model televisions. If you are talking about a bad transfer with inconsistent film grain from scene to scene, Blu-ray had some stinkers in their early days as well.

4k’s make Standard DVD’s better picture quality.
