Their great guitars! Fender got this one right. From the moment I tried one out I knew I had to get one! The neck is wonderful. The one I tried was fantastic right out of the box. They are the best Strat's I've ever played!!!
just being honest I owned at least 25 strats been playing 40 years...Its avg. try it....the mexican roadworn series beats it...Just my 2 million cents:))
Amazing ME, I don't doubt what you're saying. The best Strat (feel and sound) I ever played was Mexican made. Shane has also played many Strats and said that the American Original Series 50's is the best Strat he's ever played...he should grab one for himself if that's true. I like his white Mexican Strat with the rosewood fingerboard myself.
Awesome Strat! This is what the Strats should sound! and your video editing skill is getting better and better! always nice to watch your videos. thanks.
I had a chance to get hands on the '60s version at my local shop, and it was okay. This sounds (and probably feels) a little better, but I'm gonna guess that some of that comes from the awesome tweed Deluxe. The telecasters in this line are superb, btw -- the '60s in LPB is gorgeous and feels great to play.
Wow, I’ve been a subscriber for years, and that’s the best tone I’ve ever heard come from you! I thought at first the price was off-putting, but now I’m going to try one! Thanks.
I know these are slightly updated versions of the Vintages Series they replace, but I think there are enough differences to warrant a name change. One thing I notice on some of the Original Series Teles was that the finish was already starting to crack. That wouldn't be a deal killer for me since most of my guitars have cracks in the finish, but it's worth mentioning that it may happen to yours, so you can mentally prepare yourself :-)
That smell might be the nitro finish, which is a super cool feature of the American Original series. The white 50's strats are made out of ash rather than alder, which is also a cool. I think Fender started using alder about halfway through '56. Normally, you'd have to go to a boutique builder for those kinds of features. Fender nailed it with this. I just bought one, and this video definitely helped with the decision. I'm obsessed with the look of the white finish with the single ply white pickguard and maple board. It's so pretty. Thanks, Shane!
I ab’d this guitar at Sky Music with an off white American Professional they had. This is an awesome guitar but ended up buying the Pro for the satin neck, shallower neck carve and two point trem. There was something really familiar about the sound, didn’t realise until watching this vid that the pickups were PV 59’s. I put a set with full vintage wiring in another strat of mine 12 months ago. Awesome awesome tones. Great video Shane. Awesome to have a fellow lefty reviewing gear. Have seen lots of lefties I never knew existed.
This ash model is heavy? Is the neck comfortable? I like to play Classic Rock and Blues type Creedance, The Cult, Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, SRV etc ... Which model is better? Professional or Original 50s? Help me choose ...
It has a nitrocellulose lacquer finish, while your others have a polyurethane finish. The nitro will age, and the poly will look as good as the day you bought it. Nitro is cool but gets gummy when it gets hot specifically the neck during live shows, which is why the custom shop removes the finish on the back of the neck so you’re not slowed down.
Aren't they Nitro OVER Poly? So will they actually relic, or won't the nitro just wear off and leave you with the regular non-wearing polyurethane coating?
There is nothing about Poly on the fender website. It only says Nitrocellulose liquored finish over ash body and maple neck. They even talk about unique finish wear over time. Where are you getting your information from?
So what you mean is this is correct what Fender is saying on their website, that the guitars are Nitrocellulose, and they are following a process that was done back in the 1950's by shooting the body with a ploy skim coat? You are also saying Gibson's aged better because they put filler in their grain and properly prep the wood for Nitro. This is why Fender's look beat up when they got played a lot and Gibson's don't? I'm alright with that. To be honest I'm alright with Poly. I imagine that every Fender I own has poly. Just give me something that sounds good and plays nice and I'm happy!
So many nice set neck guitars these days that heel and plate are now associated with budget instruments. Those Squiers years ago that had it looked killer.
Hey Shane, maybe YOU can talk Fender into making some Jazzmasters and Jaguars for us lefties? They've totally left us out (no pun intended) of half of the four top Fender electric guitars. Why do we only get Strats and Teles... and those only in very limited color choices?
Great playing and sounding guitar. Can you tell me if there is a difference in tone between the guitar your playing which is ash and the alder body one they also come in. Or does the alder body sound the same as the one you are playing in the video. Thanks
@@frankswildyear it was the most horrible guitar I’ve bought. I sent two back. In the end I settled for an AM Original 60’s. Although I never wanted a rosewood fretboard. It is a little better than the 50’s one. The 50’s looks beautiful on TV but it doesn’t in reality. Small low frets, weak trussroad, huge gap between neck and neck pocket, all that white color is very sticky all 3 had worst nuts ever. D string touches first fret all the other strings very high action at first fret etc. none worth 2000$.👍
Great review, that sounded really good Shane! I'm not really a strat guy either but that just sounded killer and it seemed to put you in the zone. Nice colour choice in white too.👍🏻
Can you comment on the width of the fingerboard? I just got one and it seems like the fingerboard is so narrow, the low and high E strings are so close to the edge. Do you find that a problem?
Did you notice a difference between the frets on this 50s vs. the 60s you reviewed? I A/B'ed some of these today and the 50s almost felt like a "fretless wonder." There was a noticeable difference in fret height. I got thinking about it. Could this be bc the 50s are lacquered and fill-in the board more, giving the feel of lower fret height? I'd like to order a 60s in CAR, but am hesitant if the frets feel low like the 50s one I played. Thoughts?
If I don't buy it,LOL. "I don't know what that was." it was inspiration! There's something very classy about a white strat. Your Mexi looks great with the mint, my Fernandez white strat has a 4 ply bwb/with mother of toilet seat top and it looks so nice. I think the 3 ply guards look better than the one ply white. My all time favorite neck I ordered from Warmoth, a fat D shape tele neck, and I paid more for it than I did for most of my guitars. Hard to find that feature on a production model guitar.
You smelled it twice. Is it nitro cellulose? That stuff has a sweet smell to it. I believe that would have been time period correct also. One other thing I saw, were the pickups polls not lined up correctly? That could definitely effect that sound from string to string.
I had a question , are you really left handed or not ? Because im left handed and play righty and the bass player in our band is right handed but plays lefty ! Just wondered if your like this
Hey Shane... I picked up one of these a couple of weeks ago. I got the one with the transparent white blonde finish (I had a project in mind, which I recently had finished). One very nice Strat... may well be one of the nicest Strats Fender has done in years. However, the 9.5" radius fingerboard and the tall frets aren't vintage correct... but, then I ain't complaining.
Awesome long play in! Let that tone sink in and we make up our own minds before some the subjective info. Very cool Strat! I can see commenters rallying to the cuase for you to buy this guitar just like what happened with the PRS. Maybe tade up from the MIM?
Really awesome sounding and totally beautiful! Thanks for sharing!! Definitely has that classic “quack” as it should! I know it’s a vintage replica, but I can’t help but think that there’s a reason tuners are built different these days and they wire the electronics differently now. Can’t wait to hear the shootout!
Thanks for playing blues Ive seen reviews on retro spec stuff and they always play metal. like, no its a period piece demo it as such, not even cause I want to hear blues but I want to hear a period spec piece play like a periode spec piece So thanks
Awesome video Shane! Sorry I bugged ya about this video, but it was worth the wait! I Played the 50s in this color and the gold color. The neck was just a litte weird feeling for me. I need to play it again to be sure. I dont have big hands, so that could be why. I also played the 1960s strat and the neck felt much better for me. However, thats 50s tone on maple! Damn, blown away! Anyway, thanks again for the video. Are you gonna lay down some cash for one of these bad boys?
Marco O since the last post I now have 8 strats. Although I will sell one of the cv Squiers to replace this excellent Japanese e series strat. Yeah man I'm addicted ☺
Def the best sounding strat you've ever demo'ed. It's that giant chunky neck on this model... not only adds to playing comfort but just makes it sound huge with all the extra resonance.
Its the only Strat out there that i would like to add one more Fender, As love my Anniversary Strat thats a 54 and my 62 real one. But thats got the neck i do love and its a quality guitar as far as i can see from all there new ones. Sorry people but if going to go Strat straight go a original 50’s you’ll get the best of the bunch. Treble bleed costs me about $11 for the parts and 2 bits of solder. So as a working guitar and to play and wear it in. The nitro is the the real stuff. The white is ash body
Great review Shane. I really like this guitar but I am a little pissed off Fender ditched the Pure Vintage after only 5 & a bit years . I played a shell pink '56 in the shop that had a nice big neck. Is this similar or bigger? Interesting they used the '59 pickups (originally mated to the '59 with a slab board...) And an ash body with a solid colour??! . The previous Pure Vintage Strats all came with a 5 way switch fitted , did you say this had a 3 way? Only 1 colour ?? What is going on in Corona ??! Oh well , wicked guitar all the same lol 👍😊🎸
Chris Carreno Bah. I’ll take hum over muddy shitbuckers any day. Oh nvm. It doesn’t have the hum cancelling positions. That’s annoying. Who wouldn’t want the rwrp middle pickup?
Ed Dana You are correct Ed. 3 way switches until '77, but Peeps were balancing in positions 2 & 4, so it's an invisible, but useful inaccuracy. I would bet there would be more complaints over a period correct 3way vs. The incorrect 5way.
Great blues playing Shane. Without hum cancellation the sound was awesome. It seemed the only real noticeable hum was when you were playing in overdrive for distortion. It seemed when you did the clean playing it was almost not noticeable. Would you agree. I am considering one of these circuits and was concerned about the hum. Thanks for any info.
I'm fighting with my psych dr.ss for buying this and the Original '60,i have the money enough, they won't let me use them! I'm driving to a metal mood😉😜🤣🤣🤣
I learned something new apparently they always use the right handed decal on the left-handed guitar. so it's true what they say Leo Fender was cheap LOL
While Vintage purists will poo-poo this configuration, I prefer it in a daily player guitar. The modern 9.5” radius is more comfortable and practical for most players than the true vintage radius of 7.25”. To me, larger frets are preferable to the tiny vintage spec ones as well.
Adrian Coker I look at it like if you wanted a vintage spec guitar but preferred a flatter radius or some other modern component, that wouldve been a custom shop job, so this is more attainable. Although the squier classic vibes achieve the same result lol
3 Card Monty This is similar to the Classic Vibe in that it uses the modern 9.5” fingerboard radius and larger frets, but it isn’t exactly the same. The Squier units have the narrower “import” string spacing and lower quality hardware, electronics and pickups. The Squier bodies are thinner also. That said, if the narrow string spacing isn’t an issue, get a Classic Vibe and make some upgrades and have yourself a nice player for a fraction of the price of this model! Many classic vibe units are RW/RP in the middle position also which makes the notch positions him canceling.
TupolevPilot to keep the cost down to build them & sell them for higher profits nobody gives a damn about craftsmanship anymore Fender went to shit when Leo sold out in the fall of ‘64!
Hey Mate! This looks like the same guitar as the red one I have shown on the Hangouts a while back. It is a Mex, right? PS Wait…Hold every thing. Remain calm. This is not the same guitar as the one I have. MIne is a Classic Series 50s Strat MIM.
Ok, well it certainly sounds she knows what you like. I'd say take her to the house for a while and find out what happens. She's a big girl. She'll be OK. Who knows could be a long term relationship. BTW, I think she's a beauty in white.
it is pretty weird spraying lacquer over a poly finish doesn't make any sense it's a selling point. it's a nice guitar. I am making an effort at keeping positive LOL it's also obvious you love those jumbo frets bending the hell out of those notes. I just bought American special Telecaster giant neck giant 6100 frets once you get used to it you can't go back to the small necks and small frets what also is weird is how my opinion changes from minute to minute I used to swear by small frets now I hate them
Yeah I bought it on the internet Sweetwater actually because they show the weight and it was a light one 7.3 that's why I bought it. I never played one so I didn't know what the neck was like but I'm getting used to it so much different from my 52 reissue and I love the Texas special pickup in the bridge with the greasebucket tone control
I wish I had played one before I bought my elite Tele. Loved my elite till I played that special. Live and learn. Funny how the expensive one has become my backup.
The elite looks like an awesome guitar. like I said my opinions change like the wind so that could end up your number one in the future LOL you just never know. Like I said my priority was the weight at the time I had the fever. the American special was the lightest one so I guess I got lucky but the pro and the elite look awesome not a bad back up guitar LOL
Very nice, but I think I like your MIM a lot better. 60 cycle hum may be vintage, but it ain’t very musical. And nitro may smell good, but it will eventually relic, whether you want it to or not.(I definitely don’t want that.) To each their own, personally, I’ll stick with the American Professional, and Mexi Standard Strats, and Teles, they’re the ones that have the Mojo for me.
Ah sorry mate, but this Strat sounds otherworldly. All to their own, of course. I personally don't care where and by who a guitar is made, it is ALL about the tone - and this guitar's tone hits every one of my buttons, dead on.
Matthew Kossler Cool, I absolutely respect your opinion, it’s important that we be true to our own hearts. Find the guitar that’s right for you, no one else can, or should make that choice. 🙂👍
Anyone else wanna see Shane's facial expressions when he eats food he doesn't like ??
Trust me, you do NOT want to see that! LOL!
Ha ha, he’s an expressive guy, but that’s part of his charisma. Great host, one of my personal faves. 😁👍
I agree. 100 %
He only shows the guitar faces to his closest friends! 😉👌
Quentin James I think a good blues player would make a lousy poker player😎
You could hear the excitement in your playing. If you had that guitar, you would be inspired to play better and more. Buy it once, keep it forever.
Some guitars make you sound much better than you really are. I tend to really like those guitars. They play themselves.
Excellent riffs, the tone was amazing
Thank you Mark :-)

They use a blast coat of poly to seal the body. Using this they don't have to use grain filler and it is faster. The top coat is poly.
There is nothing about Poly on the fender website. It only says Nitrocellulose liquored finish over ash body and maple neck. They even talk about unique finish wear over time. Where are you getting your information from?

jacmoll9 SG is ugly
poly undercoat is a deal breaker. the selling point to me on the avri was the flash coat.
Bit of lefty luck there because the white ash is definitely better than the gold one. Some vintage aged plastics would look even better!
The smell comes from the nitro lacquer finish; I think most people like the way nitro lacquer smells.

Ed Dana You are correct Ed. 3 way switches until '77, but Peeps were balancing in positions 2 & 4, so it's an invisible, but useful inaccuracy. I would bet there would be more complaints over a period correct 3way vs. The incorrect 5way.
That guitar’s fine lookin’ man
It’s something else ; )
Great blues playing Shane. Without hum cancellation the sound was awesome. It seemed the only real noticeable hum was when you were playing in overdrive for distortion. It seemed when you did the clean playing it was almost not noticeable. Would you agree. I am considering one of these circuits and was concerned about the hum. Thanks for any info.
OMG this guitar sounds glorious through that Blues D. Thank gods it's a lefty, or I'd be getting out my wallet
It sounds just like a Strat.
I'm fighting with my psych dr.ss for buying this and the Original '60,i have the money enough, they won't let me use them! I'm driving to a metal mood😉😜🤣🤣🤣
It will be mine. Oh yes. It will be mine.
Awesome tone and playing but if I wouldn't have to sell the house to buy the guitar, that would be great.
Treat yourself,buy it.
在哪里能买?我在中国,in china,怎么能买到?求指教!
Bro!我刚下单了一把!估计半个月回来了!伟大的淘宝上有!
Although the squier classic vibes achieve the same result lol
nice axe
Doesn't Squier put out the same model for about $350? I rather buy the Squier & mod out the pups if I really have to.
3 Card Monty
This is similar to the Classic Vibe in that it uses the modern 9.5” fingerboard radius and larger frets, but it isn’t exactly the same.
The classic vibe doesn't have the chunky V if anything the closest budget strat would be a MIM classic player or a Jimmy Vaughan
It sucks that it has poly under the lacquer and has a 9.5 radius
TupolevPilot there’s nothing like the real ones
Roy Hall I don't get why fender discontinued the American vintage. Now we have no guitars that have all the specs of the vintage
TupolevPilot to keep the cost down to build them & sell them for higher profits nobody gives a damn about craftsmanship anymore Fender went to shit when Leo sold out in the fall of ‘64!
There's plenty on the used market still, go grab one
Chris L yeah, but I hate the sunburst on the 65 and 56 strat. I'm a lefty btw
Cool !
Do it Shane:-):-)
Hey Mate! This looks like the same guitar as the red one I have shown on the Hangouts a while back. It is a Mex, right? PS Wait…Hold every thing. Remain calm. This is not the same guitar as the one I have. MIne is a Classic Series 50s Strat MIM.
Steve Mandrackie --- Hi Steve. Long time since we last spoke. Hope you have been well.
Hey Mate! Yeah, been a while since the last Hangout. Maybe Shane can get us all together again very soon!
If it smells that good I wonder what it tastes like! Ha!
Should grab it Shane or you may regret it later.
I just bought American special Telecaster giant neck giant 6100 frets once you get used to it you can't go back to the small necks and small frets what also is weird is how my opinion changes from minute to minute I used to swear by small frets now I hate them
Guitar ocd American Special Tele is my #1. Best feeling neck I own.
Why would you spray lacquer over Nitro? The nitro breathes, lacquer doesn't.
Artamus Sumatra just wanted to tell you. you were right about the bigger frets like another guy told me live and learn thanks for your advice
Guitar ocd Always happy to help.
