    I an a fan of the Jokaero, and I still remember how, originally, the Zoat were emissaries of the old school Tyrannids once upon a time...

      Did the Zoat perform a function analogous to the Gene Stealers, or did they do something else?

      @@evensgrey I think he was more like an embassador, telling the planet to just give up. It was the old Tyranids, back before they were more like a swarm...

    'Zoat' appears to have passed along a Halo Device. This would be particularly dangerous if done to someone far from the Halo Stars, where such a device would be unlikely to be recognized. The question is whether it was separated from the host in time to prevent reanimation, since killing the host is known to accelerate the transformation a Halo Device causes, and the devices are known to be able to reanimate their hosts.

      I thought about halo devices as well.

    Additional insight into their behaviour through this more in-person diary entry, Jokaero are still boggling to me. As per Captain Drake's retelling here, was the Jokaero he encountered following him to abscond eventually with the scavenged archaeotech? Being that the space ape at least presented itself to the rogue trader as being alone. With their individuality or separation from service to any Imperial, who is to say if this species' intelligence truly involves more than a technological 'glitch'? Or, how loyal and receptive some Jokaero are to the Imperium when evidently out on their own.
    Zoats' lore development has certainly come a long way since an initial, vague thrall species to the Tyranids. These xenos' common tech, both implanted and separate but attached, has always looked creepy-mysterious-cool. Making it appear like even more of a threatening far future dino-rhino-shaggoth. Very cunning and covert through use of proxies, like the Shadow Broker of the Mass Effect trilogy.
    Of the two, the Jokaero may be potential jokers and jackasses when not fixing everything but Zoats are sinister. Aliens who singularly manipulate like the machinations of skaven leaders. It's too bad there's not yet more, literary or lore-wise about those scarier, scaley beings. The Jokaero would do, too...but, what's with their eyes? Besides that, I appreciate yours and this book's long trail through all of the inhuman beasties aboard this particular black fortress, GDN. Until you peruse more pages of the captain's personal log, have a healthy and awesome week. The Emperor protects.

    Oh boy not the tinkerer it would of been sad if it got shot because Jokaero is one of my favorite races in Warhammer 40k since there's a lot of dark characters within the universe it's a breath of fresh air to have a race not going over zealous about wiping everything out, so "roll!" "roll!" and do a "barrel roll!" Tinkerer all you want, Plus they can fix my stuff if needed, Love that one Jokaero artwork at 1:48 that's well done
    Plus the Zoats is one bad ass sneaky smart Mama jama, to appear anywhere, and in that one awesome artwork at 12:20 that Tyranid weaponry that one Zoats grasping in his right claw 🤔 it would be interesting if the Zoats use such Grimm devastating weapons of Tyranid faction. Oh man "👍😃

    Something I'm curious about. Why would archeotech be of great value to the mechanicus when they're technically not allowed to really invent or reverse engineer at the risk of heresy? Or is it more so that recovered items would be seen as holy relics of the Omnissiah?

    • @keyanklupacs6333
      @keyanklupacs6333 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It still serves as a giant leap forward in technology. That technology which has been lost is returned to them. Them trying to innovate is essentially saying "I know better than the architects of the golden age of the imperium." The mistakes and costs associated with thst innovation have already been paid thousands times by their precursors in their eyes. Better to simply seek the out the solutions that have had all the kinks already worked out of them.

    • @GrimDarkNarrator
      @GrimDarkNarrator  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Some of the Mechanicus only follow those rules on paper. They're also tech hoarders, whether they actually do anything with it or not.

  • @Greshgore
    @Greshgore 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I realize it's one of the most satirized and over the top facets of the setting, particularly when it comes to the Imperium, but the xenophobia and racism inherent in that whole " they can't possibly be intelligent, it must be a mental glitch" thing is something else.
    In a more traditional scifi setting an "animal" like that would turn out to be a devolved old one or something equally crazy.
    On a related note, anyone with an interest in sci-fi check out a trilogy of novels by author F M Busby. I can't discuss the overarching plot too much because I'll get excited and end up spoiling some stuff, but in my opinion it's a great read and a pretty neat Fish Out of Water story.
    The books in order are "cage a man", "proud enemy" and "end of the line"
