Foreshadowing and Callbacks in Portal 2

- Some of my favorite examples of foreshadowing and callbacks in Portal 2. There's a hell of a lot more, but I can only cram so much shit into one minute. Maybe I'll make another one if people like this.

All these foreshadows but Valve still can't count to 3
I mean the portal games dont need a sequel
HALF LIFE ON THE OTHER HAND
@@thecomiccrafter3866 and HL:alyx don't count
The number 3 is a myth
i think if chell was somehow dragged back into it again it would feel too forced, maybe a prequel would be great
@bubbletea-v4717 they could make it to where you're one of the subjects that was released at the end of the co-op mode, then you could have character creation for a multi-player mode with human characters.
The cube you get at the end of portal 2 is probably the one she forces you to incinerate in Portal 1
It is
Probably, since they specifically used the first game’s cube design rather than the newer one.
@@caldercockatoo2234yeah, and it’s also completely charred and burned…
@@thedogwithrabbitears I guess I assumed it was just dirt, but yeah that makes more sense.
I thought this was fairly obvious when I first played, and I was like 7

What a great game.
also when you have a puzzle with different laser receptors you can hear each one make a sound while they are active, and when all are turned on the sounds fit with each other like they are instruments playing a song
my favourte musical moment in portal two is "your precious moon" and "caroline deleted" which call back to "don't do it" (caroline deleted uses the same techniques when increasing tempo) (your precious moon uses the music right fromthe end of don't do it)
Mine is how the melody when Wheatly betrays you can be heard in the music from the Courtesy call when Wheatly moves you.
I always thought that the bridge sound effect sounded nice
It isn't a sound effect, it is a song
@@YourMothersFavouriteTerminal I know, that's why I like it
I remember the turret saying something like: Don't make lemonade
the lunar symbols are actually left over from the beta, back when the game was planned to have multiple endings. one of the endings was an easter egg, where observant players could portal to the moon from that very mural.
when valve ultimately scrapped the multiple endings idea, they wanted to have wheatley overthrown in a less violent way, leading them to combine the moon ending with their crushing wheatley to death ending they had developed.
They robbed us of crushing Wheatley to death?!
@@corwinhochrine3044 yes 😔
@@corwinhochrine3044wouldn’t say robbed since yeah he was evil but like come on it’s Wheatley. Being lost in space forever is actually a really terrifying fate but it’s not outwardly cruel looking and it seems in the post credits scene he’s taking the fate well and has an upbeat attitude.
@@vadernation1233 I have no love for Wheatley. I would watch him die with glee
I want the ending where Glados uses her torture method that she said she'd use on Wheatley when she was a potato
Also idk who else noticed this but the companion cube that GLaDOS gives you at the end when the burnt one pops out of the shed, it has the portal 1 model and it's charred (obviously) so it's the same cube
Also at the point after you fall down into the original Portal 1 test chambers, in Chamber 05 the announcer says: "-Aperture Science personality constructs will remain functional in apocalyptic, low power environments of as few as 1.1 volts." Which forshadows how the potato battery that GLaDOS ends up in generates exactly 1.1 volts of electricity.
i noticed the shed too but wasnt sure cuz the proportions of bridge output and the cables for input dont fit quite together
tho its aperture. like..they would build cables with like 20m diameter
@@Dr_Doctor_Lee it's a very aperture thing to build massive wires and cables for no reason
Chapter 5 IS the second act and the turret alluded to events in the third act, not the second
that moment when consistent story telling is considered foreshadowing xD.
The Courtesy Call *alone* foreshadows nearly the entire game
I was in shock my companion cube survived first time I played portal 2, I loved that shape.
Somewhere i heard in game that the lab can be operated by just the voltage that a standarts potato battery can provide
I though surely thats gonna be relevant later
So... this confirms that wherever glados shits us out at the end of the game is still aperture property
I mean I guess that makes sense, it’s probably a secret entrance to the facility. But this confirm she didn’t die
well yeah, you came out of a shed with a massive underground facility beneath it. It is most definitely their property
Okay, I didnt knew about the last one with the shed, thats cool!
Truly says alot about my attention span, damn
i remember the moon phase thing, i just never knew what it was supposed to be, also knew oracle turret and companion cube, but damn
Damn, I didnt know most of that, game was fantastic on its time that I just enjoyed and never cared about things, good to know.
I only recently realized the Oracle turret actually shows up way in the beginning with Wheatley treating it like a grifter
You can also find in a level hidden turrets out of bounds practicing their singing
Still my favourite game all these years later. The details are just so polished.
You forgot to mention that the bottom mural is a depiction of Glados' human mind waking up in a machine and killing the scientists with nerve gas.
Portal 2 is literal solid foreshadowing
I’ve played Portal 2 like 7 times and never noticed the moon mural. Thats so cool
Another part of the potato foreshadowing, that was even more subtle, was when the "announcer" informs you that the AI personalities can be safely kept on 1.1 volts or something to that effect, because that's about the same amount of power the potato gives off to support GLADos later on.
Early in game gladus did a sarcasm self check. Later Wheatley's answer was interpreted wrongly because he didn't.
I loved portal two, I started playing the story mode on my PS3 and beat it in like 2 or 3 days
The turret also talks about lemons, but that turret really foreshadows EVERYTHING
Also, the radio music refferences "Still Alive" but in a more happy format.
They need to remaster this game for newer consoles
Dude I want a sequel or even prequel of this game.
@@maimaibiri9045 half life is the prequel lmao
@@Matthafford I know I am referring to portal creation or right before it like creation of glados.
@@maimaibiri9045 would have less chance to inovate
@@maimaibiri9045 Theyre RTX remastering a Portal mod like that, official remaster too
i actually didn't notice the moon phases on the ceiling because i didn't bother looking up right after i got the portal gun. nice detail tho, i like it.
Here’s a super interesting fact, in the bring your daughter to work day section, you can find a post with “By Chell” written on it. Implying that our main character, Chell, was the daughter of a scientist who worked at Aperture, possibly even the daughter of Cave Johnson. As we know in the lab rat comic, GLaDOS cryogenically froze and possibly cloned some of the people she found after she took over Aperture. Ofc it COULD be a diffrent Chell, but let’s be honest, who the fuck names their daughter Chell?
the one about the moon was an easter egg to the scrapped ending where you could beat the game in 2 minutes.
The oracle turret has seen some s**t
its absolutely insane how every Valve game released is a home run
Valve makes really good games
Great content
I like reconstructing science
I just played portal 2, and I can hear some music I guess coming from the light bridges, but sounds nothing like the turret song at the end. Results with the companion cube soon to come
RESULTS FOR LIGHT BRIDGE: OK you can hear the song, you just have to listen closely. Results for the companion cube coming soon
RESULTS FOR COMPANION CUBE: yes, the companion cube does indeed play the turret music. ilbeit slowed down and repeating
How does valve not realise how much money they could make if they just learnt the number 3. It would be atleast 30 yachts
seems like a combination of a change in the way valve works and fear of not being able to live up to the huge expectations.
I have played this game maybe upwards of a hundred times. I can't believe I've literally NEVER noticed the Moon mural on the ceiling. What the FUCK
its crazy that portal and half life 2 share the same story
Didn't know about this. But interesting
Best Game ive ever played in koop
Portal surface sludge is also made out of moon rocks I think
I never looked up when you get the first portal gun
Can you elaborate on the light bridge and C cube playing the cara mia audio?
if you get near the companion cube or light bridge and listen closely they play the melody of cara mi addio, it's easier to hear w/ the companion cube but definitely noticeable w/ the light bridge once you know it's there
mommy G.L.A.D.O.S 🗿
The subtitle are covered by the channel name, might wanna fix that
Portal 2 is definitely among the greatest games ever created. I bought Portal 2 back in 2019, even gifted it to two friends and I honestly don't think I've found a more well-rounded and consistently enjoyable game. There has been so much attention to detail put into this masterpiece, and the way it manages to cater to both players of the original Portal and newcomers is genius. The game's sense of humor is unlike anything I have EVER seen, and the ending is concise and satisfying. What's more is that the multiplayer campaign gives you so much extra content with so much replay value given you play with different friends each time. Then, the user submitted levels provide infinite content for the game, giving players access to all of the game's wonderful gameplay features and more given valve's prominence in the history of modding. All of this for ten measly dollars, and it runs like a dream on my shitty family PC. It is barnone the best game on the PC market, anyone with a steam account should invest ten bucks on what just might be the best game you've played all year. I love Portal 2, even if we get a Portal 3, Portal 2 will surely be my favorite.
Well said, engineer PFP
I'm going back trough the game
It’s called good story writing
I never found out what wheatley meant by "a girl who makes holes" at the start of the game
As an italian, your pronounciation of "cara mia addio" is not the best but it doesnt have the overly italian accent good job
I... never noticed the moons
btw "cara mia addio" means "goodbye my dear"
Question, did we actually escape the facility?
yea ik its peak
is the oracle turret flashing in morse code?
0:45 me an italian rn: 😐🔫
Her name is pronounced "Gla-Dis". I know it is spelled "GLaDOS" so it seems like thats how it should be pronounced, but it isn't.
Portal 2 is fun so how dare you say this!!!
