Gamers love to say "graphics don't matter" but when a game looks slightly off because it's made with absolutely no money everyone complains. Put your money where your mouth is, if the game is fun who cares about the graphics?
Graphics don't matter and I'll probably buy it regardless. Also I should note the argument is used for games not tied to an existing artsyle. It's harder to make graphics not matter when you can't design a unique artsyle that works regardless of graphics.
That's true because I don't like the graphics of Marvel vs Capcom Infinite but the game was Dope 🔥🔥🔥 And very under rated!!! Even though the graphics wasn't all that they honestly wasn't that bad

The characters actually look like the characters. As long as I can make an all Phantom Trope team I’ll probably get it. It would be more accurate to say Everyone is making a versus game except Capcom. Because, yes, like you said in your second comment, they could do crossover with something other than Marvel, or even finally do a Capcom vs. Capcom.
The game looks fun, but as a HxH fan I wish they added elements from the actual series. The Nen system in HxH is a huge part of what makes the show so engaging and would've been a cool universal mechanic. I'm not sure what "Overgear" even means. What made FighterZ so fun is it pulled off being a fun competitive fighter without sacrificing the identity of the show so fans of the show could get into fighting games too.
You need to keep in mind that it's a fighting game. Maybe in an RPG you can get a Nen system to work, but it's extremely complex for a 2D fighter, unless you want a really watered-down version like a rock-paper-scissors kind of thing.

Was sparking blast a thing in any DBZ media other than Fighterz? It would be kind of hard to make a "nen system" when most expressions of nen are unique, but perhaps they could have done better by at least referencing the four major principles of Ten, Zetsu, Ren, Hatsu or Gyo, but they probably couldn't utilize them mechanically much while relying so much on the MvC3 gameplay engine. The fact that this game is on a budget might be another reason why the game very directly uses MvC3 mechanics without many new additions. New systems would be more time-consuming to playtest and refine, and the MvC3 system was well-loved and oft-copied, so it's tried and true.
Defo, would love to see a 2d (also sprite-based) one piece fighter. That would rule :O (I know there's the 3ds game but its not rly up to par, sprites are kinda nice tho :P)

I'm really happy that Machi is in the roster, I've grown to like her over time. Also, in the anime, Killua has so many stylish outfits in 99 and 2011 version, hope they add some!! I also would like the option for Kurapika without his blue tabard, he took it off for his fight with Uvogin. Also Kurapika in a suit would be badass
I didn't go to far watching Hunter X Hunter, so I got caught off guard how flashy and fast the fights are here doesn't reflect how I remember them being in the show. It's nice to a have a fighter like this since we haven't had one in a while, but aside from how flat it looks and the reused animations, making it a 3-v-3 on what looks like a 16 characters starting roster is baffling to me.
That's the thing tho. It doesn't reflect how fights are in the anime/manga. As a big fan of hxh I think it shouldn't be turned into a fighting game this just looks kinda lame because the manga is not as flashy or marketable as things like Naruto and Dragonball so it feels a bit forced. It's almost as bad as the fight club fighting game imo. Also there's a tragic scene that they turned into a super which I find kind of insulting to the original story.
The reason why the game is flashy it's because "the anime is not flashy" and the show (anime/manga) is not as popular as Naruto or One piece or modern shonen (Demon slayer). I assume you didn't go far because it "wasn't your thing" . Making 3v3 eliminates the needs for them to make a "story mode", save costs and makes its easier for people play since they are experts in making UMVC and DBFZ did very well from arcsystem... Plus, I am sure it's 3v3 so they can have guest characters from other shonen because HxH doesn't have the number of characters to fill up a whole roaster of characters. It's very rational if you ask me...

If they followed the story, the game would not be user friendly to 90% of the public and a lot of people would not be able to play it. For example, how do you incorporate nen, Hatsu, en, etc? Have character based fighting moves since as you would know, characters in HxH are very unique and Plus, 90% of the characters we don't know much about them nen wise... With a bigger budget, I am sure they can turn it into a SF style game but that would be a huge undertaking. You have give credit with how they have attempted to bring as much of the show as much as possible... It's quite different heartening how negative you are about this...
Maybe a hot take, but I wish they brought back TvC's Mega Crash in some way. The dynamic of making combos burst-safe and punishing Mega Crashes is always fun, even though Mega Crash was pretty jank. Comboing into Mega Crash to get red health for baroque was one of the coolest examples of system abuse I've seen in a fighting game.
I'm really excited for this one. Hopefully it gets rollback so people give it a try. I'm hoping to see Morel, Youpi, and Pitou. And to hear some good music 🙏 I loved some of the HxH opening and closing themes.
Justin, what does S do in the air? Every single play guide / manual for the game so far only mentions what standing and crouching S does but not jumping S. Is it also an air combo finisher like in umvc3?
I'm glad that you are more level headed in discussing this game.. definitely gonna main Hisoka and Kurapika here. it really made me happy that the Quick Gear/ Baroque was brought back but I do hope OverGear would be adjusted to the point that it's still usable but not as broken as X Factor Level 3. No problems with the auto combo but it should have damage scaling compared to when it is performed manually so modern Flame of Recca/ Yuyu Hakusho fighting game when? xD
Despite being a shonen series, Hunter X Hunter is actually quite hard to adapt into a fighting game, 2D or otherwise, be it because of the overly complex and situational abilities being a pain to make into something fun to play or many characters not having enough to work with, it's kinda telling how most of the games before this one were rpgs or adventure games. Not saying that it's impossible to do, just very hard, so i can appreciate the attempt if nothing else. Also i hope that if this is successful we could get a Yu Yu Hakusho game.

Look, I've long gave this game a pass on graphics. My problem is that this game is essentially a MVC3 reskin with HXH characters. And while that may not be a bad thing, to me being HXH there's nothing special about this game that makes it stand out from MVC. It doesn't come across as a HXH game except in IP only, and on top of that could potentially come out as a full price game. I get it, you guys want this game to do well so we get a sequel and/or other anime to get this type of treatment, but when (some of you) tend to push the narrative that If we don't buy we'll just continue to get more arena fighters, while ignoring the fact that this is technically doing the same thing that they are constantly criticized for being low effort (Being a copy & pasted game of another title while being charged full price.)
I don't think the visual direction is impressive. However people are overreacting about how bad it is. It's decent. Follows the aesthetic direction of the anime. Which is quite plain. I would have preferred following the expressiveness of the manga, but what are you gonna do. Mechanically seems quite fun! Can't wait to see Chrollo, biscuit, Meruem
It really looks like the anime and the style seem like a legit fighting game also HxH has never had a good game so as a fan of the manga/anime and fighting games im really into this

What bothers me about HxH is the untapped potential for literally everything. Between Togashi's breaks, the fact the anime or manga are nowhere near done, and the fact it's pretty much the most well respected shonen despite all that is insane. Like imagine the sick games we could get once all the characters/nen abilities have been revealed. Makes me so triggered thinking we might never be able to get that stuff.

This game looks pretty sweet. With the current roster though, I feel it'd be better as a 2v2 mixing Tatsunoko, MvC3, and FighterZ.

I hate the Special Move button. Not because of simple inputs. But it makes the button layout so awkward.

Honestly my only gripe is the roster size for a 3v3 besides that after getting over the janky graphics the game looks like a ton of fun, grew up playing Tatsunoko vs Capcom and never got that itch scratched again and this looks like it’ll do that for me
