Fascism already came to America in the 1920s and 1930s. The Holocaust hadn't yet been proven to be the end result of HItl*r's fascism, and Americans were impressed by figures like Mussolini, and they were attracted to the prospect of authoritarian government.
Segregration was then legal and 'normal,' (Jim Crow), the Klan had millions of members (touting Christian and "family values") and eugenics was progressing in the states. Plenty of clergy supported both white and Christian nationalism.
Then, like now, a large portion of Americans were needed to thwart the spead of fascism and Americans who supported it. We can do it again, if we understand the history of this virus in our nation.

My mother is one of his cult members who thinks he is a good Christian. It has gotten so serious we hardly talk anymore and if he wins the next election, I will probably never see her again. A few years ago Trump was asked in an interview whether he prayed for forgiveness from God. His response was that he didn't see any need to asking for forgiveness because he lives a good life. The fact the man doesn't understand the most basic fundamental concept of being a Christian and being saved, is there any bigger red flag that he isn't a Christian? Yet his Evangelical Christian followers ignore or make excuses for Trump. I seriously would like to know how a normally rational person not see the truth in front of them?

@@cyrus22999 Thank you Cherie for those words. I have repeatedly demonstrated my love. But I can't go to her in the spirit of Christ, since I am one of those darn nonbelievers. I tried to go to church but I can't believe in something I truly feel is completely fabricated. I listen to Rev Ed because, if I could be Christian, I would like to think that I would be someone with the thoughtful compassion he shares on a daily basis. For some people, belief in god is easy and natural. For me it is an impossibility. I can't believe in an all powerful, all loving god that would give an infant bone cancer and make it die a painful death. If god created everything on Earth, why would he create a parasitic worm who's only job is to dig into the human eye, blinding the person? If that is god, I don't want to know him. In my heart and mind I truly believe that when a person dies, they just stop living, not go to heaven or hell. I live at peace without religion in my life. Have a good weekend.

Friendships and families have been destroyed by it. Entire websites that used to be rational before and where things could be discussed turned into raving Christian nationalist Trump supporters only. I am thinking of "American Thinker" i used to love it when they still had a normal discussion forum with "Discus". Hey Rev. Ed . When I first heard about #45 selling Bibles I thought about the movie "O Brother where art thou". John Goodman played the part of a KKK member Bible salesman, who beat up and robbed Everett and Delmar, saying "It's all about the money boys!" That's old #45 for sure!

I'm an atheist but I find you very amusing and humble and in reality that's important to spread your message I think. I wish more people were like you. You have a way of speaking that shows your anger without actually spouting out like some would, myself included. I don't get into the scriptures and what not but I understand the message you are trying to portray to both religious and secular people. @chuckmathis958 Originally a division of Harper Collins was supposed to produce this Bible, but while that was in the works, Jan. 6th happened. So when they saw the crosses and religious paraphernalia mixed with the Trump flags and violence at the Capitol, they backed out of the deal because they didn’t want involvement in anything mixing religion and government. Greenwood then had to move to lesser publishers.

"Pledge of Allegiance." I'm so embarrassed by my country. I feel like I need to constantly apologize for where we are. This country was founded on the idea of the division of Church and State (based on experiences with England during this time). Now, thanks to this one truly crazy man, a huge portion of our population is trying to combine them!
While I share your emotions, I think the underlying movement existed first, and for a long time. Grifters don’t create their victims, they just ride the waves of opportunism. The man will go the way of all men, but the will to dominate those who are different, those who have less strength, those who are vulnerable, that has been with us a long time and likely will be for a while longer.
Trump is a symptom, not a cause. Theocratic fascism/authoritarianism has been slowly bubbling up in the US and other parts of the world for a long time. A truly cursed combination of celebrity culture, low education, late stage capitalism/corporatism and a host of other factors created Trump specifically. But he himself did not create those factors that lead to him being where he is.
I know this is not exactly a fresh take. But it's important to remember. Because if we don't deal with the fundamental issues that lead to Trump, we'll just get more Trumps, and more intelligent and/or capable ones. Which is a truly terrifying concept.

You said it just what I saw with my eyes. Trump's hateful smile holding the Bible. That smile made me feel sick.
Looking at him and listening to him, since the early-mid 90's, has affected me negatively. I have a radar for ev!l energies and entities. The ways that ev!l affect me are a heavy weight on my chest, my adrenaline begins rushing reaching a point where I feel like my soul is attempting to jump out of my body, my eyes burn and ache and water. When I hear ev!l speak my right hand automatically reacts by making a motion of an X 3 times while feeling utterly offended by the lies (For instance, a neighbor of ours up north, at our cabins was speaking conspiracies about the pandemic. I looked him in his eyes while motioning the X in front of him). I then remove myself from the vicinity of, or, in the case of 45, I mute the volume or turn the channel or forward through. Since I was knee-high to a grasshopper, I've had these natural reactions to ev!l. I must also add that I don't have the tolerance nor the temperament to put up with ev!l, it's so offensive to me.

@@sue2613 , yes, it is a gift. I have the gifts of Clairaudience, Claircognizance, Clairsentience and Clairvoyance. I'm also an empath. You know, I hear a lot of people with these spirit gifts complain about how their gifts are, at times, a burden. I don't feel that way, at all. Our Creator provided me these gifts for purpose, a purpose befitting for His purpose, therefore I will never complain. I will never see it as being burdensome. I utilize these gifts to help others; to protect, to comfort and to guide those seeking help. I also work with the angels which offers me the strength and courage and fortitude that I need to help others. There's much more to it. It would take me hours to explain.
May I suggest to you that you work with the angels? They will assist you greatly. They will give you the support you need to help others. Working with the angels will also develop and strengthen your own gifts, if that's what you choose. The angels will also cover you with protection, comfort and guidance when you get those gut feelings of unease.

God doesn’t need an endorsement from a man, let alone a man who breaks every commandment. It’s such a new low. When my mother passed I took 4 or 5 Bibles to the Salvation Army. They told me they can’t sell the Word of God.. However they would make them available to anyone in need.
Don Porleone selling Bibles would be like Jeffrey Dahmer selling cook books. He is a walking violation of the 10 Commandments. I try to have empathy for his supporters, because I keep telling myself that just because people are gullible enough to be taken advantage of, doesn't mean they should be. However, at some point, one would think it would register with even the most gullible. It's baffling to me that it hasn't with some.
I am sad to say I cannot have empathy for his supporters. I witnessed it firsthand after working 11 years for a family practice physician obviously well educated pretty smart guy moved here from Romania when he was 19 legally he always says a racist person who doesn’t want to share his self-made wealth with anyone else who might need a hand up no social programs in his world. It’s a pull yourself up by the bootstraps mentality and of course he loves Trump. Trump embodies that racism. That’s selfishness thats unwillingness to help the poor or anyone who needs it nope, no empathy for them.

I really needed to hear this today. I find myself losing hope that Trump will be held accountable for all his crimes. More Pastors should speak out against him. People believe he’s sent by God to save the world and it’s frustrating trying to get through to them.

I've gotten used to being terrified having felt that way since 2017. I told all supporters in my life to get out - I had a no-Nazi policy. I have many times felt sorry for Donald. I feel like I am 1000 times happier than he is with a mere fraction of his money and life of luxury (if you consider MaraLago luxurious, lol) I have friends and family that I love and love me back. That's worth more than money.

I love Reverend Ed. I’m feeling very discouraged…both about our country, and I’m grieving the loss of my dear Mother. Reverend Ed always brings me peace and comfort.
The story of the Prodigal Son.... I hadn't thought about that at all. I just know that Trump's spell has caught so many people in his web and has damaged so many relationships that it will be hard to repair some of those relationships. But, the image of Trump as a vampire, "feeding on" those people, was like a punch to the head. That IS what has been happening. Trump IS a "thing", like something out of a horror movie. It's hard to understand how one person could have caused so many tragedies, so much pain. And yet, it seems that the worst of the pain is yet to come. This has been the most powerful message I've heard here, and it is the most sobering one. It almost left me speechless. Thank you, though, for giving some ideas for "the day after". Hard times are ahead for everyone.

I have been saying for years on social media, welcome the people who realize Trump is wrong after vehemently supporting him. Give them a safe space to talk. Because being sarcastic and judgy to a person who has realized a very public mistake they made will only serve to alienate them further from society. They will look for someone else who says, “I see you” and once again, they will end up making the very same mistake, because you have proved to them that they are unwelcome.

And I've been struggling with the truth...as I read daily devotionals....that my constant looking to a possible future of Trump the President again......is not my job and most definitely not where Jesus wants me to be today. Beautifully said sir. We want our president to be the best example of society. Something went horribly wrong. I never voted for Trump but at the same time I felt this strange pull. He was bad at the beginning but just kept getting worse and worse. It was such a very long 4 years! Even after Biden won their was still great concern even to this day! I suspect you all felt and still feel the same way! It’s been like we fell back into the dark ages where ignorance and hate ran unchecked.
Sadly with MAGA I worry it hadn’t bottomed out yet. As concerned as I seem I do see a lot of positive signs that Democrats will win big this fall but on a daily basis it’s been 2 steps forward and one step back. Times like these offers opportunity for good men/women to do the right thing and make a real difference.
I see many stepping up and making a difference when we need it the most!
I agree with you Rev Ed, and excellently stated. The people that support Frumpler will need a lot of psychological support once they realize what they fell prey to. We need to help make them feel loved and get them to responsible psychiatric care. I will never forget the feeling I experienced in 2016 when he won the election. I felt sadness and I knew, at that moment, that something was really wrong! God, will you give us the wisdom to help our loved ones!

I am fortunate in that I have not had to sever relations with friends or family over this man, even though I do know people who support him. We just keep the subject at arm's length (and we don't get together that often). I'm all for reaching out and for forgiveness, but trusting them is a different story. Trust takes years to establish and moments to break. Once broken, it will take years to re-establish. I'm not saying don't try, but there has to be a genuine effort from both sides for it to even begin.
He has always been a grifter. I have always seen him as the worst kind of "used car salesman". He is working for a higher power, but it is not nor ever has been God! Satan is his God in my opinion. The joy is that the sprouts have come up. Slowly some are moving toward the open door and peering inside. What they see is table is set and fire is warm and there is a place for them. A place without judgment. Only gladness that an old friend has returned. But I do ask them to wipe their shoes 😉
