      My comment button is missing.
I think the church is going through a pruning. Our congregation is starting to grow back with the people who accept everyone and are learning to ask newcomers to coffee. They are making quilts, shawls, and hats. They make clothing kits for newborn babies and school kits for children. Other welcoming churches throw community dinners once a month. Our churches have a community fund that we can help someone one time with things like gas or diapers. They have organized cleanup groups after a fire or tornado. I have hope even though the pruning was severe.

Yep, It is beyond me and I’m a Christian American. I think Christian Nationalist are just hoping Trump will help them get their policies in place and he just wants their vote, but he probably doesn’t care that much about their policies. Looking at the Ten Commandments, here are Commandments that Christian Nationalists and Trump have clearly not kept:
Thou shalt not have no other gods before me.
Thou shot not make unto thee any graven image
That shalt not kill. (Trump suggested Mark Milley, the Joint Chiefs Chairman, deserved execution/a member of Trump’s base attacked Pelosi’s husband in their home/Trump said maybe Pence ‘deserves’ to get hung and the insurrectionist were chanting “Hang Mike Pence”
Thou shalt not commit adultery. (Two legal cases involving E. Jean Carroll and Stormy Daniels)
Thou shalt not steal. (Fraud case)
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. (Trump lies nearly all the time; the lies are part of every indictment)
We need good servants (judges) to prevent anymore delays from Trump and his attorneys, we need good judges, attorneys, and juries to find Trump guilty of all counts as well as citizens and good legislative people to speak out and to vote Trump out of office. Trump is just trying to delay the court cases so he can get elected before he is convicted. I’m hoping conviction would open some voters eyes who aren’t aware of everything. The mainline media doesn’t tell everything. I listen to Meidas Touch (Pro Democracy info) on You Tube to get the latest unvarnished truth about everything MAGA and Trump related because they help me understand and keep up with everything. I do have to work some relaxation time because hearing about all the craziness can cause stress and anxiety. I’m praying these people see the light.

I tell people that my politics and my theology are somewhat opposed.
If I voted my theology, I would be a Bernie Sanders Democrat. If I worshipped my politics, I would be a Southern Baptist.
By the same token, my politics are a combination of Great Plains values (my grandmother belonged to the WCTU), Monetarist economic theory, foreign policy realpolitik of Henry Kissinger, and beliefs of the likes of John Locke, Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan, and William F. How wonderful that Jesus is unchanging and always provides an example of how to live to please and serve God. Please continue your ministry, you give me hope that there are Christian Fathers and Pastors and Reverends who stand up for the truth and represent Jesus as He truly is, has been and always will be. Reverend, you seem a reasonable man, and I like your channel, sir. For what it's worth, here's my opinion. Our churches ⛪️ based on Jesus Christ will survive if we stay focused on him ! All those who choose to follow Rumph and Drumph will either exit his personality cult ; double down on his ideas; or collapse with his cult ! Trumpism is the exact antithesis of what Jesus Christ taught his 12 Apostles, who taught others and has been passed down throughout the generations! The wicked have their time ; and in God's timing, the wicked will perish! So it says in the books of Psalms, Proverbs, and Eccliastes ; and probably elsewhere. The churches are going through a " Great Apostacy Cleansing " and will be better and stronger afterward! I'm a Christian, and in spite of all the turmoil and tumult occurring around me ; I still maintain my faith in Jesus Christ to see me through! It isn't easy to remain calm when everyone is losing their minds and peace; but I'm tied to the Rock, which is Jesus Christ, Amen !

How does staying focused on Jesus save your church from the stain of Christian nationalism? How does that show the people, especially those the church harms, that you are not one of them? Christian, evangelical, even Jesus are now names associated with harm, authoritarianism, discrimination, subjugation, threats of violence, and violence. Your church and those like it may survive Trump and the current upswing of Christian nationalism, but for how long after? How do you get those who, in their formative years, witness the church calling for policies that cause harm, discriminate, segregate, impoverish, enrich themselves, acts of violence, dehumanize, etc. You can have faith and keep your focus on Jesus, but faith without deeds is dead. If Jesus focused churches are not out there, in every place, as loud as the Christian nationalist, the church in the US may survive Trump but not the generations coming and how they perceive what Christianity is.

Whenever I think of DJT from my perspective of Christian belief, I keep coming back to the passage in John 8:44: “You are from your father the devil, and you choose to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” Any person who is so willing to speak untruth without limits reminds me of Jesus' designation of Satan as the “father of lies.”

As stated before, Rev. You're the only "Church" I attend. And for reasons before Trump even came along, I felt the strong desire to explore a variety of religious thoughts across many spectrums. So spiritual Not religious, I can love JesusAt least for what I remember most is the Sermon on the Mount type of stuff about human character in general. But not belong to any Church.
The types of things that I can carry with me in my pocket wherever I go. The fact is religion already falls short in terms of the Holy Spirit generalities. When you add clear corruption by MAGA and other extreme ideals, it sullies it.
Fact is. Christianity has been sullied,. And it takes brave men like you that keeps bringing a guy back here to listen to you. Remind me of what the boy in me remembers. Gentleness, kindness, charity of Spirit.

I feel like this was a heavy video, so I'm going to try to add something and maybe bring some hope to the discussion. I'm not religious and most of the people around me aren't either. I don't see us becoming religious any time soon. However, I am seeing something very encouraging. We're becoming kinder, gentler, more patient and thoughtful. Most importantly, we seem to care about our neighbour more and more. You never see us at Sunday service, but I have a feeling that, if you made the comparison, you'd find we're trying to live our lives in a way that would hopefully make Jesus say "Well done, kids :)" And isn't this the goal, after all? Being nice to each other. ✌

The GOP has to be voted into irrelevance and another party must form to clean house after the last 7 years... or we could grow up a bit and entertain ranked choice voting nationwide (a pipedream, I know) and stifle the "us v. them" two party dichotomy.
Either way, there's only one major party today in the US; the opposition is a cult of violent ignorance masquerading as a party. That has to change.

Such a sobering and accurate account by the letter writer.
Pray for our enemies, the misguided, the greedy, the entitled, the ruthless, the hypocrites, that they be turned from their dark agendas and see clearly, hear clearly, and act on that clarity.
Maybe not all, but if enough people realize the disastrous path they are on, it will be enough to return to being people who actually live as Jesus exhorted: love God, love everybody, and what that truly means in the deepest part of their hearts.

I cannot accept that God is anything but pure love. I saw this the other day and it really sums things up for me.
When we die, God isn't going ask us about the two men down the street who got married. He won't
ask us about the girl who had an abortion. He won't ask us about the atheist that lives on the corner. He won't ask us about the woman who feels more comfortable as a man.
He WILL ask us how we loved those
people as He called us to do.

I absolutely agree with what you have said here. The true church, the part that truly does it's best to be Christ's representative in this world by following His teachings and His example will survive anyone or anything that this world throws at it. But, just as there have been times in history when "The Church" has evolved into something that is so antithetical to what the Church is supposed to be, that as you say, it must be pruned to cut away all the unproductive "dead wood", so will this happen from time to time, until Christ's return. This may well be one of those times for "the evangelical church" in the United States.

Reverend Ed, I want you to know I listen to every one of your videos with the most open heart I have. You see, I'm an Athiest who was raised in the church. Religion was never about love, only punishment for failure to strictly obey everyone - your teachers, your parents and the rules of the church. There never seemed to be any room for humanity. I believe in science. But there is a part of me who realizes what the church was always meant to be. The Republican Party and MAGA are all heretics. They treat the Bible like the Terms of Service on an Apple product. They never read it, they just click 'Agree'. Heretics is exactly the word I use to describe them when they called themselves Christian in the same breath as they explain why they want to pass a piece of legislation meant to hurt or oppress someone. There's no hate the sin, love the sinner in them - just hate.
Thanks for reminding me what the church was meant to be and to reinforce my belief that I left the church for good reason. Even as a kid, I was right about them all along. You're a good man.

Oh, that ship sailed long before that commenter even thinks it did. A big pet peeve of mine is when (former) Republicans and Christians claim that Trump is the problem and all the bad stuff will go away when he is gone. In all honesty, I don't remember if I left the Repelican party before the 1980 election, or the 1984 election, but when I realized I could not be a real follower of Christ and be a repelican, I decided I couldn't continue to be in that party that went against every value Jesus taught.
By the end of 1997, possibly much earlier. I had Baby Bush pegged as a pathological liar. I did not believe he would ever admit a mistake. After all, a couple years earlier the repelican party had made, "Never admit a mistake," an official plank in the party platform, and I did not believe Bush could even recognize that he made a mistake, much less admit one. He later proved me wrong when in 2006 he admitted the Iraq war was a mistake. Regardless, in 1998, when the fake Christian Right started saying, "We have to elect this guy because he is one of us," I recognized immediately what they were admitting, and to this day do not realize they admitted it. They are all liars and have always been liars. Paul called it a powerful delusion sent on them by God. This condition has been a part of Christianity for a long time.
This commenter said something about those who tell you they are Christian being honest in the past. Some, maybe. In my own experience, those who are Christian and honest are not telling you they are Christian. Those who tell you that they can be trusted because they are Christian, more often than not, seem to me to be saying, "Watch your back because I will rob you blind the first chance I get and I will tell you it is God's will and what is best for you."
I think Christianity will survive Trump. God put him in place to reveal the rot in the system (See Ezekiel 8), and the church will be cleansed if the Bible is to be believed. It may be a somewhat painful process, but it will happen, just as it has happened in the past. The Repelicans I am not so sure about. I think that party might be finished because of Trump, but I am not going to lose any sleep over that. It has been rather evil for quite some time, and Trump is not the cause. He is just the light shining into the dark corners, and those people still won't admit the crap he is showing them has been there all along.

And you are right, in any group where there are extremists, those who aren't that have to stand up and at least identify themselves as not that, if they don't actively oppose them. Standing up like that takes courage and standing up to the extreme element also takes courage. I'm afraid I agree with the writer, we're in for a bad time. Truthfully, I feel that real Christian pastors and priests should speak out publicly against all the false pastors and priests that are not upholding the teachings of Jesus. Silently sitting by and allowing the false followers to yell from the rooftops is seriously damaging the reputation of Christianity in general. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

Hello Rev Trevors - I love listening to your messages as they are hopeful in this crazy world. One thing you may not have know about is that some of the Evangelicals are now coming out and saying that Jesus's ideas and teachings are too "woke" and he would not be listened too by their church because his ideas are too liberal. This is very scary to me. I am not a member of a church as I don't believe in many of their rules and lies but I love Jesus and God. I don't want the chaff of these crazy people to transplant anywhere but in the stones/rocks so they won't grow. Trump is now selling Bibles with American laws and song in it and he says it is endorsed by him. This man would not know one book from the other. I know this could probably back fire on him but he is not a good person. Happy Easter to you and God bless you. Julie

People who have actually read the words and deeds of Christ know what is The Way. And tRUMP is off the path.
The Church will survive. Pope Francis is keeping the faith though he has opposition. Pastors and Reverends locally are more focused on God than tRUMP.
Plant seeds of love and hope and we water them with our tears.

Hi Rev Ed, TH-cam randomly served your video up to me and it really hit home. If my personal experience is any indication, this will most definitely have a profound impact on the church. The cornerstone of the church may be Jesus Christ, but the church itself is entirely made up of people. And as much as we might want to think a shared belief is what binds us, in reality the shared set of ideals we associate with that belief and our aspirations for life play an equal role. When you no longer feel the people around you share those ideals, and when you see that an agenda can override hope, love, honesty and empathy, at that point you start to wonder why you need it in your life. I personally am not sure if I’ll ever want to walk into a church again, and during this time I’ve come to realize that the ideals I strive for were always independent of the church … and left me asking whether they are independent of Christ as well. I can't believe I'm alone in this feeling, and without people who see the church as a haven for those ideals, there is no church.

I believe you correct Rev Ed. Many think of the Bible as just a history book. I believe not much has changed in the way people act. Hate, violence, separation of tribes and last but not least is love. God is love so I trust God and pray for mankind. Thanks for sharing

There is a sifting going on. The counterfeit believers are revealing themselves. They are showing us who their father really is. We must stay strong in our faith and press into our relationship with the Lord. We are being tested and with Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we will and are prevailing. We are more than conquerors! Focus on God and the truth of His Holy Word! Remember the road that leads to life is narrow and few find it.❤ God bless! Stand frim!
