I honestly didn't really care about his pretty girl controversy, but the way he was so quick to blame others and make ballsy accusations with no backing other than his own speculation really says a lot about his character. he can't even take accountability and handle a small scandal with grace, I don't want to imagine how he'll handle national or even international issues. Also, he claimed to care about young Singaporean's but he didn't even try to empathise with their opinions in this situation or fully hear out the hosts throughout the whole episode and then proceeded to call us, the audience, dumb. imo, being unable to explain well in simple terms shows lack of confidence in your own understanding. He just comes off as narcissistic and out of touch.

Exactly. He sounds disgruntled and out of touch, especially saying he will “make things very difficult” for the government if they don’t show him respect. ????? While at the same time, saying he’s all about solving problems not being political. He’s a dangerous man we cannot have as President at all cost, a remnant of the past.

In other words, you would prefer that he kept quiet and just take whatever allegations the host or the media or whoever throw at him like some meek hamster?
Why is this even a controversy? Obviously somebody scrutinized what he had said from any point in his life and make it into an issue now, at this golden moment during the PE, in an attempt to discredit him.
God knows if he kept quiet, people like you will say he is not assertive enough, blah blah.
He comes off as narcissistic and out of touch. Wow, have you taken a look at the PAP ministers? They are guilty for every unfavorable thing you say of this guy leh. But why are you not bringing those up?
You wanna play the finger pointing game, you be fair across the board !! Dun just suga suga cherry pick and blame this guy for 1 thing today, but conveniently forget about what the other guys did yesterday !!

end of the day, take a step back. He is being flanked by everyone who is anti-PAP and wants the President role to keep attacking PAP. President's role is clear, 2nd key and represent SG. I sure hope he doesn't get elected and end up staring at short shorts when the camera goes click. Not my president thank you.

Never have I felt so frustrated when watching an episode of TDK. He seems adamant on imposing his views, and didn’t bother to hear differing opinion Dan tries to bring across. If he can’t accept or is willing to hear opinions that differs from his, I wonder how accepting he will be to listen to Singaporeans concerns if he ever becomes our president.
He also seems a little delusional at times, and brings up statements that can’t be backed by facts/data.
But would like to thank Tan Kim Lian for coming out as an eligible candidate so that Singaporeans get an extra day of holiday this year. But frfr, we all know who our next president will be and it’s definitely not gonna be TKL.
Looking forward to the next episode with our future president!

nah I had a different view.. I like people who are real because you revealed what kinda character you are. Whereas there are some who are what we called double headed snake, who could really hide their true nature just like acting and these are the ones whom the current fake society loves. So would one prefer someone who you never really get to see his true character or one who disappoints others by revealing his real face? Lies are soothing to the ears but truths are painful to hear.

He was the head of NTUC Income for many years. Knowing how these legacy local institutions operate, as the chief he was likely able to get his way with minimal or zero criticism or feedback, and all his staff likely took what he said as the gospel. I believe anyone who has worked in similar organisations can observe similar type of vibe when it comes to dealing with superiors - don't question, just do whatever boss says, boss is always right. After so many years he has gotten so used to this and probably thinks he is damn great and that his sh1t don't stink. Not saying this as an excuse for him but rather an indictment of how our local organisations operate.

Delusional is right. Wonder where he gets his confidence from. But such an attitude and view keeps him happy la. Good for him. He is also not listening to views. How can we accept a president like him? He doesn't even try to understand other views. Also, come on Mr Tan, whatever you post before you were running for president, of course no one cares because you are a nobody. But once you want to run for president, the behaviour of objectifying women becomes a concern obviously. Why is that hard to understand and also, you are not such a threat that people are trying to bring you down la. I think you already brought yourself down.

I think TKL genuinely believes he’s smart. And I think it’s because he hangs around a bunch of rusty old people all the time. Not to insult old people, but it’s a fact that a large number of them are more “simple minded”. And older generations of Singaporeans are more likely to be yes-men.
If someone hangs around such people all the time, their reference for average intelligence adjusts to that level. No wonder TKL thinks he’s smarter than everyone else…

Some things even if technically not wrong, doesn't mean it's okay regardless the circumstance.
When he commented on pretty girls while upholding the image of Internet troll, people accepted that as part of his trolling. He seriously gamed the system with all his troll posts even much better than youngsters. If people disagree with his actions back, they can choose to not see his posts. Because at most is the ladies feeling uncomfortable and irritated, but not violated. He is just him, an Internet troll.
But now he serious about becoming president, then its whole different ball game. The symbol and representative of the country. The stakes are too high. Which in turn amplifies the negativity of the old posts.
He is right to ask why years ago no one find fault with him, yet now it becomes so huge. All these organization used to ignore and suddenly now everyone after him. Unfair? Maybe. But this IS politics. Being president IS a big deal. And the answer for his questions is that from representing himself, he now wants to represent the people.
So many people changed their mindset from "you are your own problem. Not my problem" in the past, to "it is going to be my problem now if he wants to represent me".

But now he is running for president, and we are not sure if we want such a risky person to be the face of our country. Later he says things that are OK among ordinary friends that are borderline offensive, then if he says it as a official claim or smt serious, it might be problematic, ignoring the hurt done to people that are affected.

I think Tan Kin Lian is quite emblematic of the people (esp the elderly) who fall behind with regard to social progress in current society. To some extent, even our PM Lee and Shanmugam fall victim to this, though of course not to the same extent. They don't understand that values have progressed over the years. People nowadays value more accountability, gender equality, a higher degree of respect between races, etc. It's a reminder to us all that we hardly know anything for certain, and to always stay updated with current affairs by reading perspectives from different groups, interacting with them, etc. Most importantly, stay open and humble to new perspectives even as we age and become more financially successful.

If that is so why Mr Ong Teng Cheong was so well received by the people back then and exercised his authority independently? Isn't he once a PAP member and held a Deputy PM officer before he was elected as President. I don't see there is a correlation between establishment and independent thinking. I'm an actuary and actually (pun intended) offended that TKL said his audience doesn't understand it, surely he should have learnt that communicating complex concepts in a lay person's manner is very much part of our skillset.
Anyway, no idea what he means that you "that's not how countries accounting is usually done". Surely government spending (Edusave, other discretionary spendings) should be accounted under your annual P&L statements. Whether the amortisation of these spendings are done with the "right assumptions" would perhaps be a more judgmental process, that TKL could have a view on what's right or wrong. But his explanations were too broad brush... more details please Mr TKL. Don't forget that the SG govt. is able to plan longer term, and hence budget for such costs on a longer term rather than on a year by year basis.
And whether sufficient reserves are needed to defend SGD, George Soros famously won a trade against the Bank of England back in the 90s. Whilst the SGD may not be as widely issued as the GBP, this clearly shows that you need substantial firepower to win such trades. Further, SG's MAS monetary policy is to ensure SGD stays within a FX range requires MAS (and further govt reserves) to be available to buy back the currency in case of an adverse movement. For example, it wouldn't be prudent to tell the everyone else how much money you have before going into a bet.
Though I do agree that the govt. probably should not have used to much of a broad brush approach to help every company with wages during the pandemic, and that monetary assistance could have been more targetted.

He clearly does not know the role of the president by saying he can set the investment policy for the reserves, this was repeated explicitly throughout this election that the president has no powers to do so.
He claims to know how much reserves will be sufficient and thinks that we should release the information about the total reserves. And he thinks SGD will not be attacked, and bigger countries will fall first before Singapore if there are 3 consecutive ‘Black Swan’ events impacting global economies.
Seriously?! What is TKL smoking ???

      1) Any P with less than 50% vote is not representative of the populace.
      2) Perceived objectification of 'pretty girls' or 'attractiveness' might be an unconscious display of 'feminizing' men -- by feminist(s) regardless of gender.

Tharman is arguably not the best, but he’s definitely the best of these three . 👍

Wow, I've never disagreed with a guest more. John, Jared & Dan really did really well here. Thank you for sharing this podcast TDK. He is not my president.

TKL lives in the old era. Unable to keep abreast with the current world. Whoever is not on his side is deemed malicious or he simply cut him/her off. The most challenging interview session by TDK. 😅

Can anyone imagine Mr Tan sitting in a room full of other world leaders/vvips/govt, and also having to represent Singapore with his thoughts/views? I can, but I wouldn't want that.

Quote “I think is wrong to be offended on behalf of others and you impose your views” - so you should NOT impose any views during your campaign 😅

LoLx, he disagreed with some many policies of the gov, is he campaigning for presidency election or opposition party election????? I want a President that brings Peace and Stability to our country, not the other way round...😢

Mr TKL, a president must have wisdom because what you say has consequences. In addition, I believe that you will be a confrontational president (if elected) against the government. We cannot tolerate any disruptions in the stability of our government. You will likely lose your deposit again.

This vote would be very stressing i wonder how the cast manage to end it. Wonder how john and dan manage to maneuver it can tell at the start really look uncomfortable, speaking from a neutral side
