I'm a professional mover. 17 years experience. This is how you wrap an expensive couch that cannot get dirty or damaged. If it's just a cheap or old couch, nothing expensive, you dont need the blankets or that much shrinkwrap. Start at the bottom and as you go, PULL TIGHT and go around to the top. I make sure the entire couch is covered in a layer of shrinkwrap so whenever possible, I can put the couch on its side to save space and it's not getting dirty. I do lay a blanket down before I place the couch on its side, just to make sure. If it's raining, I use some extra wrap to make sure the couch cannot get wet. Again, the method of wrapping in this video is only for expensive couches or of course if the customers requests it. BTW, be careful with how much time you spend wrapping. Some customers, if they are paying an hourly rate, will think you're overwrapping to run up the moving hours. Yes, some customers are clockwatchers and get nervous if they think you're taking too long to complete the move. Best way to avoid it is to wrap each item according to its condition and worth and do what's necessary but not overkill. If it's glass, bubblewrap it well, then a blanket, then place it in the truck in a way it cannot get damaged. China cabinets, curios, any large item with glass, there's no such thing as overkill IMHO.
That is a pristine job man... I clicked and watched it to get pointers for tomorrow's job and eventually forever to get it done better. Thanks for recording and posting. Good pointers.
Nice work, only tip, blankets on a moving truck are typically not very clean, and can transfer a lot of dust and dirt to a light colored cloth furniture causing a damage claim, its best to shrink, blanket, then shrink again, to avoid damage.
Looks good. Always use the light side of the pad if available on all furniture. Fold them light side in, it keeps them clean. The only thing I would add is the bottom dust flaps of the couch should be folded up and secured as this will keep them from getting wrinkled.
So I typically use the light side to indicate that something is fragile or has glass. You are right about the flaps for these older couches, this one was just a throw away!
Walmart, Home Depot, other stores like that will carry these items. The blue cloth padding is usually called “moving blankets” and the wrap is called “stretch wrap” or “moving wrap.”
Thank you so much, I will work on getting a video up with that information but in the mean time you can always find moving blankets and stretch wrap at your everyday home good store such Walmart Home Depot and Lowe’s. There are specialty stores that allow you to buy other equipment and materials but they are usually specific to your area.
Thanks for the great video! I would like to see a video on techniques for loading the moving van. Also tips on knowing what size van to purchase based on amount of stuff. Proper lifting techniques would be helpful as well. Thanks again!
@@smartestmover1239 Yes. In the past; I’ve noticed that no matter who helps with move they can never figure this out in a way that’s safe for long distance driving or even how to cover for rain protection. Thank you so much
Do I need to use pads or can I just use the plastic wrap?? I’m moving everything myself so I feel confident I won’t carelessly get it dirty.. but I’ll be an easy sell on what’s best recommended
Get a box. Label the box cushions. Put paper at the bottom of the box. Add the cushions. Place additional paper on top of the cushions. Seal the box. Upon reopening, ensure you don’t accidentally damage the cushions.
You can typically wrap the couch with the cushions just lay them down. However if they are oversized you can either box them up or if its a personal move and you don't mind, you can use them as fillers on the truck to fill any dead space.
You can but it depends on how long you plan to leave it in there, as it could cause wrinkles to fabric. Also if you have a leather couch do not leave it wrapped in a storage as the fabric needs to breathe
I usually keep them on unless it is a sleeper sofa. Makes everything easier. Leaving in storage is different, you may want to remove if in there for a long time.
I personally have bought moving pads from Eco Box, Amazon, and even Craigslist when I was just starting out. You can find pads at Uhaul or most home goods store such as Home Depot, Walmart or Lowe’s.
If you mean your typical household blankets? I wouldn't see why not the only thing is they may not have really good protection if you need to maneuver it through a stairwell or elevator.
Yes you are right that definitely a topic that we have talked about another alternative could be tape but it just is not as efficient or cost effective. If you have alternatives I would love to know!
Just keeps everything together, if not you have a bunch of loose pillows and the chances of them getting dirty or damaged increases. Depending on size of couch I would sometimes remove
I just wrapped my couch up! Im a single 23 year old woman and your video made it easy. Thank you
I love reading comments like yours, glad I was able to make it easier.
@@smartestmover1239 WHATS the name of these wraps so i can buy them?
Thank you for not making this video any longer then needed. 👍🏽

Exactly , specially the light color sofas
How do you shrink and then wrap again. I don't understand fully. Shrink what? Im moving myself is why im asking. Thank you...
@@sunig5590A bit late, but I believe they meant shrink wrap, or just plastic wrapping it before and after putting on the blankets

Thanks for checking out the video. Will definitely upload some videos addressing those topics. Appreciate your comment!
Use your legs to squat or get low, never your back, and carry heavy objects close to you.
SO helpful!! What size plastic wrap did you get? I just went to Home Depot and there was a bunch of different sizes
The stretch wrap I use is 18 in long and 80 gauge. It is a little bit thicker than most other wraps but I feel it works well.
Thanks for the upload!!! What size roll and gauge should I get for a love seat and sofa?
The roll I use is 18inch 80 gauge stretch wrap. These are great for covering a lot of surface fast.
Hello! Do you have advice on how to wrap a large mirror- its about a 6 ft tall mirror 😅
Wowww!!!
Can you do a video non how to pack a couch and a queen mattress and boxspring tightly on a pickup truck for a move? Thanks

Can you recommend where to purchase blankets? The ones I see on Amazon don't look as thick as what you are using.
Maybe try your local moving supply store. I have one close by called EcoBox that I use.
@@smartestmover1239 Thanks!
Why can’t we rent pads somewhere?
I do it with one blanket
Nice Video. I wondering I can rent a Moving blanket? I need a lot.
Not sure if you can rent them. Maybe return after use but don't quote me on that lol
You can rent pads at uhaul
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

@@TripleOG_ can you Keep the cushions in a box over a long time in storage or will that make them mildew or anything?

Need help protecting a king size mattress for shipping overseas
If it is an all foam mattress you may be able to flatten it by vacuum sealing it. If not Amazon has Heavy Duty mattress protectors for like $50.
This is great! Do you recommend always keeping the couch cushions on when the couch is moved/stored? Or wrapping those up separately?
I usually keep them on unless it is a sleeper sofa. Makes everything easier. Leaving in storage is different, you may want to remove if in there for a long time.
Do I have to have pads
No just makes things easier!
How much did it cost to use all that wrap?😮
Maybe 10 cents if I had to guess.
Thanx big guy
Hi, where did you get the pads from?
Uhaul has the best price I've seen on blanket pads. Otherwise any big box store (Lowes/Home Depot)
I personally have bought moving pads from Eco Box, Amazon, and even Craigslist when I was just starting out. You can find pads at Uhaul or most home goods store such as Home Depot, Walmart or Lowe’s.
With it being white, shouldn't you shrink wrap then pad and shrink again so the pad don't bleed onto the white couch
Have you experienced pads bleeding onto light furniture?
No never, but depending how well kept your pads are I can see the concern of getting dirt in furniture. However this has never been a concern
How large are the pads?
80" x 72"
Can I just use blankets
If you mean your typical household blankets? I wouldn't see why not the only thing is they may not have really good protection if you need to maneuver it through a stairwell or elevator.
Great video. Too bad those pads are pricey
I'm here to prevent bed bugs don't judge me
Good job, but I hate that all that plastic ends up in the ocean. But there’s not much alternative.
Yes you are right that definitely a topic that we have talked about another alternative could be tape but it just is not as efficient or cost effective. If you have alternatives I would love to know!
Except when you're on a job you don't have time to wrap it like that. Way to much stretch wrap.
We did this on every job and it is actually more efficient to wrap like this and prevents damage to furniture.
Waste of time, use a couch bag takes about a minute. Or just use stretch wrap don’t need pads it’s not wood...
Why wouldn't you remove the pillow from the couch before wrapping it? Why wrap the pillow with the couch?
Just keeps everything together, if not you have a bunch of loose pillows and the chances of them getting dirty or damaged increases. Depending on size of couch I would sometimes remove
