- RFA Proteus K60 (Multi-Role Ocean Surveillance Ship) MROSS of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary exiting dock, exiting dock at Cammell Laird Shipyard and making her way north towards Alfred Lock, further up the River Mersey. She is helped out by tugs Serviceman and VB Phoenix.
"Ooops! We forgot the landing pad! Better stick it on the front, there's no room anywhere else" 😂😂😂
Like the majority of offshore support vessels
Sensible since the copter cannot fall into the sea off the stern
Just like all the ships worldwide that serve the oil and renewables
Hello Mersey Shipping, A very interesting shaped ship, with various weight distribution points. Must be a nightmare for her ballast tanks! You mentioned she was going North towards Alfred Lock. It looked Like she was heading out to sea. I'm a bit confused on what she was actually doing. Excellent video. Thank you. Spoolbox.
She is being moved out of Cammell Laird as the gates there are being replaced. She moves into Alfred Lock and went through into the West Float
The port side Lifeboat sticks out more than the starboard side one does ...
She is expected to undergo sea trials, then head down south for a naming ceremony in London some time during October, her future role is apparently sea bed surveillance and Infrastructure safeguarding ,and seabed warfare ,definitely a weird looking vessel.
Yeah that's her role amongst other things. Not sure how long she will be in Birkenhead docks for though. 👍
I thought it was a fuel supply ship looking at the crane gantry and hose reel.
Looks like it was designed by a committee! Awful. I suspect it will carry out research for the private sector.
What do you think "RFA" stands for?
She was an offshore support vessel originally, designed like that to withstand most things the North Sea throws at them
This is what modern Diving / submersible support ships look like, very common in the North Sea, come up to Aberdeen there are always 1 or 2 either in the harbour or at anchor just outside in the bay waiting to come in to get re equipped for next job.
@@nevtinnion9431 oh I didn't know that, I thought it was a new build. I withdraw my comments!
@@Paul_Harper I'm sure the sailors have their own witty ideas 😅
