Visited Sihanoukville a few weeks ago. Well worth a visit in my opinion. There are still a few nice bars at Victory hill such as the Corner bar which serves nice food.
Wonderful walking tour. I have never visited Cambodia but feel it should be on my list…looks wonderful. Keep up the good work, from a new subscriber 🙏❤️👍
Wow..these are my old haunts from back in the day, about 20 years ago. This is very depressing to see. How Chinese money has destroyed the place. Victory hill looks horrible now. Much less bars today.
Blue Mountain is street no. 805, Victory Hill is street No. 141, & the Chicken Farm is on the unnamed road that runs one block directly behind the train station - there's a place called "Diskotik bobo" on Google Maps there as a landmark.
You said "Sihanoukville is lively as ever" for the nightlife... But it appears that you are the only one walking down the party street, and the bars are dead, with no people. (only bored employees sitting around, waiting for their 1st customer).
It's lively as in venues open fully staffed. Most of the expats moved to Kampot which means less punters, but it's always been a small scene. Let's face it though, it's not Bangkok! ;)
Ungrateful Hunsen forgot the day he fled Pol Pot and went to Vietnam to ask for help. Without Vietnam's help, Hunsen would not be in the position he is today. Cambodia followed the path of Pol Pot 50 years ago, listening to China's words of killing Cambodians, eliminating the neighborly relationship with Vietnam because of the illusion of benefits of the Funan Canal. Just like Nepal and other African countries fell into debt traps when China lent money to build ports, hydroelectric projects, and water diversion dams. These projects have destroyed the natural environment and people's living environment without exploiting economic benefits, leading to bankruptcy and becoming a debtor of China, so the land must be assigned for 100 years to pay. debt, politics will depend on China, other resources will be exploited and brought back to China at cheap prices. The Cambodian people will suffer soon. China benefits the most when Vietnam and Cambodia are in conflict; whichever country is weak, China will jump in immediately. The possibility of this project going bankrupt is high because in the dry season, to store water for the hydroelectric dams above, the canal can only accommodate small boats, which will surely result in a debt trap for China.
Cambodia will be hoping to save costs in the long term by not having to pay transit fees going through Vietnam & by never having to fear the Mekong/Bassac river being closed to their trade in future if relations went a bad way. Hopefully everybody can stay friendly.
Is it true that entering Cambodia the immigration agents at the border demand a typical $20 USD slipped inside the passport, and they do the same upon exiting the country? A friend visited this city only last week. The friend said that it is very expensive there, and everything sold is in $ USD. And food there is very expensive. And crime is rampant in the city.

Wow it has changed a lot since I was there frequently in 1997... Working on a ship that called at Sihanoukville weekly.
I visit Sihanoukville 7 years ago, it is beautiful place and willing to come back, but now, No way, China money destory this place already.
Please dun come.
Khmer people call this city, Chinaville.
Only the west can have opportunity to be rich 🤑
Same in 2015 was amazing sleepy backpacker backwater...oh how things have changed.
Have been there in 2023. Only Chinese, Casinos, unfinished buildings. One of the saddest places I have visited in South East Asia.

It's starting to improve again, but it's of course different now.
The secrets are revealed... fascinating... 😮
I love walking along places like this (in the video) knowing that nothing bad is going to happen to me. Might be different if I were there in person 🤣

Thank you, I will
No idea of Sihanoukville!
Well, I hope it was informative then! :)

Yeah, I agree Victory Hill was nicer in the past!
Top job on these videos! I just wanted to voice my appreciation.
Thanks :)
what is the name of the street there?

Prince mall apartments advertised 2 swimming pools. Both pools were empty, no water.
Awesome 🛹🛹🛹🛹🛹🛹🛹🛹🛹❤
How much for an apartment there now?
Hard to watch this video. Depressingly run down. Can't compete with the likes of Siem Reap
This is just one part of town. Most of the town looks more modern than Siem Reap.
It's certainly very different from Siem Reap.
Been there, done that, still smiling
It's good to experience the local culture. :)
heard the "chicken farm" had been cleared out ages ago, pre Chinese takeover of the city. There are Western guys there still? Amazing.
I had heard the same. Interesting that rumors of it's demise have been exaggerated!
The chicken farm is by the port
Don't trust everything you read online lol. Latest stats say still 2000 Westerners living in the city. And growing fast.

only 1 minute from my place 😁
Convenient... 😃
Went there 20 years ago, looked the same!
You were in a different country 😂
You really don't know what is the meaning of chicken farm! 😂
I was just looking for chickens - imagine my surprise... lol...
Used to be there 20 years ago and totally ruined
It would have still been in its prime then, as far as being a backpacker haven. Good memories...
@@SeekeroftheWay-qt5kj Blue mountain, chicken farm. Biba's, viet houses.... Great times
Those chickens are for fighting
I thought that's what the roosters are for..?
Man they all hate you haha😂

@@SeekeroftheWay-qt5kjSave costs? By partnering with China?
The city looked very dirty and deteriorated.
At the moment it is.

Have a look at my video: 'How to Cross Border: Hat Lek, Thailand - Koh Kong, Cambodia' ;)
