Prior to 2017, it was ‘normal’ for an adult over 65 to have blood pressure of 150/80. Overnight, this norm was reduced to 120/80, thus creating millions of new patients. They did the same thing with cholesterol, once again, overnight, dropping the threshold between normal and high. Interestingly, despite all the BP and cholesterol meds now being prescribed, heart disease continues to be the #1 cause of death. Strange, that.

I haven't visited a doctor since 2010 (antibiotics, for a chest infection, when I was a smoker, and then I discovered that properly-prepared garlic was just as effective), and don't take any medications. I'm 70, my BP was 122/67 when I checked it the other day, and I have never had a cholesterol test. Those who fell for the tests when they were made available were drawn into the medical establishment's fear cycle, constantly worrying about their 'good' and 'bad' cholesterol levels, and easily persuaded to start taking statins.
I take daily supplements, but the hero of them all, in my opinion, is the 600mg of magnesium I take. In her book 'The Magnesium Miracle', Dr Carolyn Dean explains why taking enough magnesium makes taking most pharmaceuticals unnecessary.

All my life, I've been 125/75 (typically), and this was considered normal. Now, at 81, and still 125/75 (I jog 3 miles per day), my BP is considered elevated. Quite frankly, I think the pharmaceutical industry had a hand in convincing whoever maintains these standards to reduce them by 10 points so as to sell more statins.

I ended up buying a b/p electronic machine and my average b/p is 115/65... I believe I had white coat syndrome. I can't believe she didn't give me a chance to eat better or lose a lil weight, why, because of the money, I am in the process of looking for a different doctor because it seems like they are constantly trying to give me meds for things I do not have, she even gave me an inhaler for copd when I went to the e.r a month before {because I was scared my heart was beating funny} and was given several tests and was told I didn't have copd or anything wrong with my heart....so why? Your body knows what you need. Your blood pressure goes up for a reason. Plaque builds up in our arteries over time (mostly due to the poison disguised as food we’ve been eating) reducing the blood supply to our vital organs. Your body increases the blood pressure to ensure that your organs get enough blood to continue functioning properly. Studies have also shown that around 50% of stroke sufferers had “normal” blood pressure and showed no correlation between strokes and blood pressure.

Blood pressure obviously higher than the norm set by Med world, or so I thought. I measure 3x pday and it is never the same as I keep record of all! This morning it was 150/80 , just now 180/90 after 2 hour nap! In Jan a cousin told me to try Cayenne pepper and Turmeric! Weaning off the chemicals my bp was reducing to even 130/70 at times! I also noticed that a leasurely walk or stroll , bp dropped by 30 /20 points! The Turmeric even healed my gut from auto immune and all related ailments! What more can I say guys???? Go natural as far as you can! I wont touch statins even if you pay me! My Cholesterol is between 6.7 and 7.3 all my life! Im as healthy as never before in my 79 years of life! I do take a 50 mg Vit B multivit daily for last 40 yrs and I highly recommend you to do this! Have a great life guys and girls, trust God for the rest!

Amazing how "the science" surrounding such a well understood basic biological function has changed so much in such a short period of time. Also, amazing how when "the science" is updated, the parameters of what's deemed good health always change in a way that sells more prescription medications. Also, are we really to believe that such "one size fits all" BP ranges are applicable to every single human being? We're all exactly the same? No healthy variations are to be found in humans, especially in vastly differing age ranges, sex and race? "The science" sure is good for big pharma and hospital CEOs.

I think what is happening here and this is only my opinion, pharmaceutical companies would love for the world to have 120/80 BP for everyone which is impossible so the bottom line keep telling people that 120/80 is the goal for everyone even people 65 years and older. This brings in more business for the pharmaceutical companies so they put more people on medications. In 2022 the JNC8 committee independently published an evidence-based guideline in JAMA that raised the blood pressure treatment threshold in most older adults from 140/90 to 150/90 mm Hg. Nov 28, 2022. There reasoning was too many doctors were prescribing so many BP medications to the elderly to try to keep their BP at 120/80 and they were putting their patients health at risk. When the pharmaceutical companies heard about this and some doctors they jumped all over that report. I wonder why?

I also was a scuba diver for over 35 yrs on a regular basis diving and free diving to 3 atmospheres 90 - 100 ft. Body will adapt to needing higher blood pressure. When doctors try giving me blood pressure meds I have a lot of reactions to them. Do better without BP meds. I looked up when Blood pressure was starting to be monitored. W.H.O . founded July 1946 - C.D.C. April 1948. Blood pressure list generated 1950 and @ 20 you should have between 105 - 140 and it goes up from there to 65 should be 115 -170. These all started changing 1950 When George Merck Quoted in time magazine "We try never to for get that Medicine is for the people. It's not for the profit." 6 years later the Pharm companies were showing $100 million Profits ( 1956) . Most doctors have become car salesmen when it comes to drugs. If you have side effects they give you another to cover it. I've gone the Homeopathic route. feel better and no side effects and still operate actively in the 120 to 160 range. Plant based will eventually wreck your health royally. Plants aren't that good for you. They are full of antinutients that block your body from utilizing various vitamins such as iodine, B1, etc. Plants have their defenses against predators too. Humans were meant to eat meat which is why you have canine teeth in your mouth. Vegetation is strictly to keep you alive if meat is unavailable at the moment. You won't thrive on vegetation and it will eventually catch up to you. That's why vegans end up with rotten teeth, hair loss, hair turning grey and then white, bulging eyes, loss of muscle mass, constant hunger and, eventually, strokes. Your heart needs animal fat in order to thrive so you may end up with heart damage. The brain is made up of 96 percent cholesterol. Alzheimer's appeared on the scene in the late 1970s after the government pushed the low animal fat, anti cholesterol diet. A diet, btw, that has never been tested on the human body. Alzheimer's is characterized by holes appearing in the cholesterol segment of the brain.

Not wanting to take blood pressure meds, I cut carbs from my diet (aimed for less than 10 per day). The result was a weight loss of 60 pounds and my blood pressure dropped and today ranges from a low of 95/53 to a high of 110/ 57. My HgA1C dropped to 4.8 so my diabetes is reversed. My resting heart rate dropped from the 80s to the high 50s. I’m medication free and feel as well as I did 20 years ago. I never go hungry (sometimes overeat). My conclusion... my health is in my hands. It’s just a matter of deciding if processed foods, baked goods, chips, fruit, etc are more important than my health. I’ve also gained significant muscle mass without an exercise program.

I agree with the hereditary factor for BP. My Mom had 155/90 for the last 30 years of her life and died at age 81 while being prepared at the hospital for a pacemaker. The docs were concerned and tried to lower her BP which resulted in fainting incidents. When she was allowed to go back to 155/90 she was healthy once more. I followed her treatment closely and I have had the same average of 155/90 for the last 30 years. I too, allowed various docs to try to lower my BP and I was a total mess with symptoms of cramping, lightheaded, depression, and general weakness all over. Every time I go to the doc she wants to talk new BP meds. I said I'm tired of being a guinea pig Currently today, I am showing 153/91 with a 62 pulse. and I'm in my late 70s.

The reason I was told, by my cardiologist, for the changes after 2017 was the rise in diabetes and other diabetic related illnesses in the US due to poor diet and exercise. It was an attempt to protect unhealthy people from themselves. The problem is that there is no allowance for highly active healthy people. At 67 my regular BP is 135--140/75-80 with a HR of 54-60 and some doctors freak out and think that I should be on all sorts of meds. Thankfully my cardiologist says no! you don't need meds.

Getting your full blood work is key to knowing what's going on in your body. For me it was reversing fatty liver and stopping my insulin resistance. Keto served well in this area . It sure isn't for everyone but does have an incredible effect on reducing fat in the organs and body , intermittent fasting is where the real work plays out in removing junk from cells during states of autophagy . Keto gives you what you need in turning fat into keytones to burn for energy slowing for long periods of time between meals so you body can do the work needed in repairs. I have been on a ketogenic diet for over 3 years . Education is key! I'd read everything I can find on the subject and do the blood work so you can see where you are deficient and adjust accordingly.
      Stay Strong!

The French guideline recommends that the target blood pressure remains at < 140/90 mmHg, with < 150 mmHg for patients aged > 80 years. Systolic blood pressure between 130 and 139 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure < 90 mmHg are recommended for diabetic patients and those with chronic kidney disease.

The American Association of Retired People commissioned a recent study and the question was - at what blood pressure, all things considered, should be people OVER 60 need to start BP meds?. A university professor was hired - he did a huge meta-analysis -- and then the results were presented to a 17 member panel for review. The answer - when a person over 60 has a BP above the range of 150/90, the person would benefit from taking BP meds, all things considered. Of the 17 members on the panel, 12 supported that conclusion and 5 did not. Why I found this particularly interesting is, Dr. Sanjay Gupta of York Cardiology was asked the same question by one of his subscribers a few years back - he came back after doing his research and the numbers he had - 150/90 - the same conclusion. This 120/80 box that the medical community tries to fit everyone in, is just NOT supported by the real data - but the pharmaceutical companies love it. I'm 68 - mine averages about 134/75 ... and I am perfectly happy with that number.

True, that motive is there, but that does not mean that pressure shouldn't be lower for most people these days. Better done by diet, though, which gives no pharma profit.
Frequently eating foods that are high in *BOTH* fat and carbohydrates, and stretched across one's waking hours is the main driver of high blood pressure, as is eating fructose when your liver's glycogen stores are already filled (like a sweet desert after eating lots of starch). These are two major drivers of metabolic syndrome, of which high blood pressure is just a part.

There's more: A Nephrologist that was giving a report on the Web about BP stated that as you age, your BP goes up because your arteries are getting stiffer and that for an 85 yr old (like me) BP is just fine with 150/70; a 50-60 yr old should have BP of around 135/60 to 140/60. As you age, your arteries naturally get stiffer whether you have cholesterol buildup or not & the stiffer they are, the higher the BP. He also felt BP should never be below 120/60. So... who are we to believe?

I was put on HBP medication when i was 19. It was prescribed by a reputable Cardiologist. My issue was anxiety related. Whenever I would get anxious, my BP would hit about 150/110. My heart rate would increase to 110 to 140 BPM. I'm on the Autistic Spectrum. It's my understanding that it's common for people on the Spectrum to have elevated heart rates.
I've been taking the meds for 31 years now. The main issue that I deal with is that my BP often runs low when I'm not feeling anxious. For example, my BP will be right around 120/80 in the Doctor's office. However, at home, when I'm calm, it's around 90/50. I've never quite found a happy medium. But I am grateful for having the meds when I feel anxious or panicky. Anyway, that's just been my experience. Thanks for the video.

I bet you have circulation problems in your lower legs too, and hair loss... I almost lost my legs. I wised up and detoxed off of the BP meds that were causing the venous stasis. Now my ankles are just a little pink, instead of purple. Doctors will insist you stay on those poison polls, even if it costs you a leg or two. May I add something? How you measure blood pressure is very important. Buy yourself a home digital machine from the pharmacy. Sit upright in a comfy chair for a solid five minutes, with your feet on the floor, not crossed. No music, no radio, no TV. Just be quiet. Don't do this if you've eaten in the last hour or so. Keep notes on your blood pressure and pulse, and check once in a while. Don't obsess about it. But do pay attention if you're over 120/70. If only the second number is high, you have isolated diastolic hypertension, and the latest research shows that it does not lead to stroke or heart attack. If the first, or both numbers are high, you must do something about it: start eating properly (no processed foods) and get some serious, heart-pumping exercise at least a couple of times a week. Do I need to remind you to stop smoking? Most people CAN get those numbers down without pharmaceuticals.

A paper published in 2000 in The Lancet by Dr. Sydney Port and his statistician colleagues from UCLA focused specifically on whether or not there was indeed a correlation between rising systolic blood pressure numbers and adverse cardiac events. Short answer: there isn't, until pressure reaches the 70th percentile for a person's age and sex. There is no increased risk for adverse events for anyone until blood pressure numbers reach the 70th, and probably the 80th percentile for a person's age and sex. There is no increased risk for adverse events for any numbers lower than a threshold at 70%. Risk was independent of systolic blood pressure for all pressures lower than 70%. In fact, they found that there is no increased risk until a person reaches the 80th percentile for their age and sex. After 80%, risk increases sharply. The reason for this is the way data was collected and interpreted from the Framingham Heart Study, which has been the gospel blood pressure numbers taught to thousands of physicians ever since and which does not stand up to statistical analysis. It's probably a coincidence that other interpretations of the Framingham Study just happen to include millions of people who have been labeled hypertensive based upon the Framingham model, but who, in fact, face no greater risk from higher pressures. It's a difficult read, but I urge anyone concerned about their blood pressure to read the article. Check it out online... "Systolic Blood Pressure And Mortality" by Sydney Port and colleagues.

5:00 I went to the VA for severe chronic back pain in 2011 at the age of 53. I've been retired from the Marine Corps for 14 years and felt I was still in pretty good shape. My blood pressure reading was 230/190. The nurse was freaking out. Told me I could literally have a heart attack while we were talking. She was ready to send me to the ER. But I convinced her I felt fine and she goes "okay we'll sit here a few minutes and I'll keep taking it. To see if it goes down."
It did go down to abt 180 over 140 or something like that, low enough that it was not considered an emergency ( for them).

WOW! So many asking for an update. Well I'm almost 70 years old. I like to read medical studies so in one the jam report from a European country, had that the older you are, having a BP of 140 to 150 if you are older is not bad. Then I found another study that showed people that took BP lowering meds had more heart incidents than those that took nothing.
Well my cardiologist had me wearing a device for 2 weeks. It did not detect anything so bad, that he felt that I needed ❤ medication. But he said it was up to my PC doctor. I thought that was very strange. So I told my doctor that I will not take any medicine. I follow a mostly vegeterian diet with only cold water fish, salmon, sardines and some tuna. I only use olive oil & vinegar as a dressing on my salads. My diet is closer to a Mediterranean diet. The cardiologist and PCD said my diet was a hearth healthy diet. So I just take my B P at home and its always under 145/ 90 most of the time it has been 135/85 and I feel good. I'm also walking more. I will not take any medication to lower my BP or to lower cholesterol. I found that my memory is getting better. I read that good cholesterol is brain food.
Well I'm no doctor or anything close I choose all that I do for myself. Its working for me. I did a lot of research and read a lot of papers. Based on that information I decided for my self whst I do now. Please do your own research and don't do what I do, it may not help you.

The problem with all of this information (and I'm not blaming this doctor) is that pharmaceutical companies have a vested interest in you taking their product. That makes it very difficult to know what to do. I do know that I get anxious when I go to the doctor, because of this I now will take my own blood pressure a few times a day for the three days before I go to the doctor and give them those numbers, the difference can be as much as 40 points. You can't blame the doctor for being concerned! Also, my experience at the doctor's office is that they do a horrible job of taking blood pressure - your arm isn't in the proper position, feet are dangling, your sitting on a table instead of on a chair and you shouldn't be talking, not to mention you probably just spent an hour in the waiting room getting even more anxious. Best advice, check it yourself in different situations using proper technique.

I have been a life long aerobic cycling athlete and my max bpm is still 187 by physical testing and my aerobic threshold is still 172 bpm, which I can maintain for a few hours constantly. None of this mattered to them and they used their own ignorance to fail me. Last season I was first over 50, first over 60 and third scratch of any age in my local cycling club time trial series.

I understand...unfortunately....they just don't know what to do when you're an athlete. It's frustrating.

My doctor uses the same metric for blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, A1C, heart rate, and body weight for all adult age groups. If anything is out of line, be prescribes medication.

High blood pressure causes extra pressure on your arteries, so why do doctors immediately blame hbp on your heart when it's the hbp that causes the heart to react? Typical of conventional doctors not getting to the root cause and immediately zero in on heart issues when there is most likely nothing wrong with your heart. And who sets the standards, where do these so called normal numbers come from?

My blood pressure readings go well above normal levels when I put on weight. My experience is losing weight has been the best way to reduce blood pressure. Walking & hiking and doing some kind of aerobic exercise helps lose weight & reduce blood pressure. Sugar is addictive, and my biggest weakness when it comes to diet. Drink at least 2L of water daily and watch diet, and eliminate sugar, more salads, less starchy foods helps. Good luck to all viewers!

The nurse practitioner told me to be careful, I was prediabetic, and she was thinking of BP meds for me. I changed doctors.

Many people don't know that the people who take your BP can be wrong. If your arm is too high over your heart, your BP will be low... too far down, it will be high. The nurse at my doctor's office doesn't know this either... she constantly puts me in the chair and pulls my arm up... result... very low BP. Thank god I have a machine at home.

Im 56 and I have major health problems. I don't take no meds at all. I can't do no kind of labor work at all. All meds do is cover up the symptoms. Our bodies wasn't made to take all these meds. Meds does more harm than good. I gave God a ultimatum. Either heal me or call me home. My brother died of a massive heart attack at age 36. He told dad that he was tired of these world and said he was ready to go home. I'm like my brother tired of these world ready to go.

The European guidelines say optimal blood pressure is below 120/80 mm Hg; normal blood pressure is 120-129 mm Hg systolic and 80-84 mm Hg diastolic; and “high normal” is 130-139 mm Hg systolic and 85-89 mm Hg diastolic.
