    So I watched your video on disassembly and tuning of strider knives. Interestingly enough, adjusting that foremost handle screw allowed me to adjust most of the blade play out. Its not perfect, but it's much better. I find this to be an odd idiosynchrosy unique to striders. despite the factory inconsistent edge bevel, wire edge, and rounded factory tip, its probably my favorite knife. Thanks for the vids

    Just picked up a second hand strider. Never really got what all the fuss was about.... yep. I get it. What a great knife. Only wished I had done it when I could have gotten one new.

      rekozma But you can get a new strider! Mick strider is still going strong, monkeyedge, bluelinegear amongst others have them in stock occasionally, just gotta be ready when they drop cause they sell out fast!

      Just go go the website and check the newsfeed. He announces drops days in advance. Then buy straight from the site. But be fast.

    When I get my SNG fatty spear point after paying it I’m going to use it as my edc. I miss carrying and using a strider. What I actually like about the aluminum handle is that it gets rid of the front screws and gives it a cleaner refined look.

    You made a point to say titanium on steel means very little lockstick. It’s actually the opposite, which is why we use lockbar inserts on most good knives

    • @Alumapro23
      @Alumapro23  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. I misspoke. Most people hate inserts though. I’d also argue that treating the lock face…all kinds of variations on that, but CRK would be a great example…is a solution that works better. There are CRK’s on the same lock for over 20 years. They don’t move or slip. Steel inserts can stick and they slip. Everything is a trade off though. The ease of replacement and the ability to adjust the lock up…6 in one half a dozen….

    • @optimuscrime608
      @optimuscrime608 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Alumapro23 The reason we want a steel lockbar insert is to prevent wear to the lock face. Once your ti lock face wears out the knife is essentially done. Steel-on-steel interface of a lock insert(vs titanium) produces less lock stick, especially in flippers.
      Carbidized coatings are usually Tungsten Carbide or Titanium Carbide. The former is usually applied over steel and the latter over Titanium. The stuff is applied in a D/C arc where the shooting electrode (WC or TiC) sputters plasma on the intended surface. The coating is not very thick but is quite hard >70HRC.

    • @optimuscrime608
      @optimuscrime608 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Alumapro23 A carbidized lock face and a good lock geometry (proper lock bar tension + tang) will give you a lock bar that will last a lifetime

    • @Alumapro23
      @Alumapro23  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@optimuscrime608 I agree, to an extent. As I said, CRK’s at still rocking from 20+ years ago. That’s just one example. That also opens the convo for “expensive” knives. All the “expensive” knives can be patched up for ~$25 from their respective maker and you’re back in action. Your comment also does not address the slip associated with steel inserts. What makes a practical difference is debatable. However, pretty much every person I know does not like the slip.
      I agree, but I mentioned there are several different ways to get rid of the stick/wear. That also brings us back to “expensive” knives and the reason, in my opinion, they’re expensive. Those companies take care of their knives. Little to no questions asked and for very little money, relatively speaking.

    Kershaw was a bad pick because Kershaw does have a fantastic warranty, same as ZT. Kershaw will replace blades, and fix whatever or send you parts. Strider is one of my grails, and definitely worth the price from Mick, not what some people try charging on the secondary. They're just so hard to get anymore. I had one a couple years ago and it got stolen I've been without since. Maybe Blade Show next year.

    • @Alumapro23
      @Alumapro23  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      FrankieJ dwm_edc It’s too bad you need the warranty more often than not. KAI/ZT has been slipping for years quality wise. They do spend lots of time in making flashy knives. It’s interesting that Benchmade gets the bad QC rap when you don’t have to look too far to see the Elmax issue and countless other QC problems reported by regular consumers from ZT/KAI.
      The problem with the secondary is that people have spread the misinformation that Striders aren’t made any more. That caused a huge uptick in the general market. There are lots of good deals all the time, but not on forums and eBay. People also aren’t tuned into the places that inform us of when drops are coming. Over the last 8+ months, the drops have been pretty regular and they’ve announced it on their IG pages. I hate to see people get ripped off and I often repost sales, drops, and other deals on my IG page. I put up 2 large 21 Sebenzas last night that were $320ish. There are lots of deals out there, but the places are so spread out and not always known about.
      I hate to hear about a low life stealing from you. That’s the worst thing ever.

      @@Alumapro23 yea I've never had a major problem with Benchmade and thier customer service is awesome, and the low life that stole from me was unfortunately family, but he's better now was dealing with some demons and a monkey on his back. I'm gonna look you up on IG. Thanks for all tje info.

    Does your fatty have excessive side to side blade play? Because mine does and it’s pretty obnoxious. Even with the pivot cranked down I can hear the blade clicking around when I apply side to side pressure. Unacceptable for such an expensive knife.

    • @Alumapro23
      @Alumapro23  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nathaniel I agree. I don’t know how it still rattles if it’s cranked down though. The pivot would have to have been cut too long.
      I handled 2 at BLADE and bought one for me and a buddy. I handled an SMF too. None of those had any issues.

    • @BrothersCinco
      @BrothersCinco 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing is, the action will be ultra tight, yet there's still blade play. Its almost as if the pivot hole was too wide or the pivot housing figment is just bad. Do you know if the warranty is honored on these newer "m. Strider"s? Btw, the pivots aren't technically proprietary or custom, they are bicycle chain ring bolts. Therefore I think it's unlikely that the pivot screw is too long and that is might just be improper/sloppy fitment. Its really obnoxious.

    • @Alumapro23
      @Alumapro23  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nathaniel The warranty is the same. You just send it to Mick instead of the SKI shop.
      I didn’t mean the pivots are custom. The Ti ones are. Either way, the pivots have to be different lengths. For example, the pivot for a fatty isn’t going to be the same length as the one for a normal SnG and the same for an SnG compared to an SMF and on and on throughout the product lineup.

    • @BrothersCinco
      @BrothersCinco 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right that makes sense. Either way, the pivot is definitely applying full pressure on the washers yet there is still play. Thanks for the info

    Good quality improvements. Do the body screws go directly into the aluminum scale though?

    • @Alumapro23
      @Alumapro23  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      HolyFragGrenade I’m not sure. I haven’t taken this one apart and I haven’t seen one taken apart.
      I’m not too concerned. They’ve made aluminum handled Striders going back 7-8 years ago and I’ve never heard of any issues. Even if there were, $25 and Strider will fix whatever’s wrong with your knife, as long as you haven’t tried to mod it.

    • @nife_knerd
      @nife_knerd 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True. I've sent off one of my old SnG's that had bad lock rock (old lock geometry) and they sent it back solid. Great warranty.

    • @Alumapro23
      @Alumapro23  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      HolyFragGrenade Absolutely! Only company that’s ever treated me better is Esee. I told them I broke the knife batoning a piece of wood that was WAY too thick for my little Esee 3. They shipped me a replacement, for free, within 2 weeks. And that was during the Thanksgiving/Christmas season. One of the busiest times for retailers.
