My old Highschool. I lived and graduated from Barrow Highschool. We didn’t have the football team back then. But I was the Cheerleader for our basketball team.
I loved this series. Been to Barrow too (now Utqiagvik, or I call it The U) it's a special place with not a lot of recreation, that blue turf is well-taken care of requiring maintenance due to being right on the windy rock beach next to the port, so playing football is a big deal because there's lots of talent in Alaska looking to get out and make a life for themselves outside of this dark cold corner up here. Also special to spend time getting to know the coach, the players, their families, and see how some people are up here. Thanks NFL Network! Please come back to Alaska.

It's just amazing to get their perspective and see how everything works over there and see how people are after growing up in such a harsh environment like that. Like yeah Phoenix is one of the hottest cities in the world but the amount of heat doesn't even remotely compare to the freezing cold, darkness, wilderness, isolation, etc that they experienced their whole lives. Yet at the same time it still feels a lot like an American town in many ways. That's just crazy to me.

Bass God barrow is the only place in the bush or real north that has a football team. But a dome would never happen. Barrow does not have nearly the money. As it is the football team is super expensive based on the fact the fly to all their games.

I'm surprised that they're able to get enough kids every year to be able to field a football team. And traveling to other cities to play against other schools seems a lot harder then mainland schools who just get in a bus and drive 15 minutes to play ball.

The salaries in Barrow are about three times higher than the lower 48 states. And they have a lot of oil. Also, what that documentary doesn't say is they have a lot of essentials flown in from other places. They aren't all just living off the land. But the prices for everything is much higher due to their remoteness.

The median income is like 80k a year so its not like they are living in abject poverty. However, cost of living is absolutely insane.
